Bimini Run

The water effects are not bad at all as you bounce over the waves, the rapid-fire shooting is intense, and the explosions are sweet. It's especially satisfying to send a helicopter into a tailspin. Another pleasant surprise is the audio, featuring an adrenaline-pumping soundtrack and surprisingly clear voice synthesis. But as impressed as I was with Bimini Run, in terms of fun it's only average at best. It's hard to see enemy missiles approaching, and it's awfully easy to run aground on the islands (much to my consternation). While the missions attempt to inject some variety, it all boils down to shooting the same things over and over, and gets monotonous. Nevertheless, Bimini Run is completely different from anything else I've played on the Genesis, so collectors will want to take notice.

Die 3-D-Verbrecherjagd per Schnellboot, "Bimini Run" betitelt, kommt aus Amerika, ist jedoch noch schludriger produziert als so manch anderer Mega-Drive-Schnellschuß aus Übersee. Grafik öde, Sound ebenfalls, Spielspaß unteres Mittelmaß: Keine Katastrophe, aber die 100 Mark definitiv nicht wert.

I don't see any real reason to run out and find a copy of Bimini Run, since most players will probably grow bored before they finish it. Then again, the game is so darn short that they might actually beat it first. If a cheap copy manages to turn up somewhere, I'd say it's worth putting down a few bucks for, just to see an idea that really had some cool potential. Otherwise, keep the radio off when headquarters comes calling. The mission isn't really worth the time.
