Take a walk on the wild side with Chuck Rock. This game's worth the bucks for the music and graphics alone. from the standpoint of challenge and gameplay, it's middle of the road - not too hard and not too easy.

The Chuck Rock character might be slow, smelly and hairy, but there's nothing slow smelly and hairy about the game! It's great fun, with the bumbling Neanderthal wandering around the beautifully-drawn, hazard-packed platform environments solving puzzles and dishing out damage to dinosaurs. The gameplay is extremely well designed - usually, the first mention of puzzles in a platform game sends me away screaming with horror, nut these ones are logical and enjoyable and don't bog down the action at all. With its excellent graphics and superb sounds, chuck rock is the best platform game seen this year and is a game that Megadrive players are thoroughly recommended to invest in.

This game is a trip! You control a pot-bellied, cartoon caveman who attacks by bumping his big belly into whatever prehistoric creature gets in his way. Chuck Rock has some hilarious animations, beginning with a caveman rock band on the title screen. The control is very responsive. You can easily bump, kick, pick up things, and throw rocks. You face many dinosaur adversaries (including some large bosses), but some of them actually help you on your quest. For example, a pteridactal might give you a lift over a canyon. The cartoonish graphics are not spectacular, but they are clean, colorful, and have a personality of their own.

As I said, back in its day, the game was highly successful and very popular across all the platforms it was ported to. It also saw two successors (Son of Chuck and the Mario Kart clone B.C. Racers). Its incredible fame, however, came in large part due to the stone age fad going on back in the nineties. Take that away, and you have a nice, at times funny little platformer that unfortunately has a few very cheap sections and, once you're able to overcome those, is rather short. I'd recommend having a go, listen to the main theme, and have a short look at the nice graphics. All in all, though, this game is only slightly above average.
