Golden Axe III

Golden Axe III n'aura vu le jour qu'au Japon et on pourra le regretter puisqu'au final il est clairement plus abouti que ses deux grands frères. Bien sûr on n'osera pas le comparer au second épisode arcade sorti un an plus tôt, car la Megadrive a ses propres limites, mais on pourra trouver dommage qu'il soit tout de même si inférieur à Streets of Rage 2. Dans tous les cas le jeu aura apporté à la série des stages plus nombreux, une meilleure durée de vie, et le système de cheminements très agréable. Un bon titre en l'état, et sûrement le meilleur de la série sur Megadrive.

All in all, Golden Axe III is a decent game - if you can get past the quality of the graphics and music, there's a lot to like about it. Why Sega of America passed on the game is still a mystery to me... then again, they passed on Treasure's Alien Soldier too, the idiots. It's worth picking up if you can find it - be warned, though, you will need a Mega Drive converter to play it, as it was apparently one of the first Mega Drive games to have a regional lockout installed. My Magic Key III works just fine with it, as it turns out. Interestingly enough, all of the in-game text is English, so it's very import-friendly. Strange, though... it's like Sega did intend to release it outside of Japan. Also, on another note... I never thought I would say this, but the Japanese can put out some absolutely godawful cover artwork. Unfortunately, Golden Axe III has some of it. Check out the box scan below to see for yourself.

Aquellos que busquen en este juego una continuación de la saga no encontraran una tercera parte, sino un cambio de estilo que no esta a la altura de las demás entregas. Si os gusta mucho esta saga o no sois muy exigentes podréis entreteneros bastante con este juego, de lo contrario la diversión solo os acompañará durante algunas partidas. Probadlo y decidid.

Golden Axe 3 krankt einfach an zu vielen Schwachpunkten. Das Spiel hat sich gegenüber Teil 2 kaum verändert. Von Verbesserung kann keine Rede sein, die meisten Sachen wie die Magie sind eher Verschlechterungen. Die Technik ist auch unterdurchschnittlich.

All in all, I can only recommend this game if you just have to have the complete trilogy or if a friend's little brother trades it to you for a pack of Yugioh! cards. Aside from that, stay far, far away.
