Mean Machines
Let's face it, Robocod has certainly been heavily "influenced" by other major console platform games such as Sonic and Mario, but it's managed to take all the best bits and leave out any annoyances. It's a huge game, with loads of secret rooms to discover. It has great graphics, with some superb scrolling, especially on the train and jelly scenes, and best of all it's got the most playable and addictive platform action the Megadrive has yet seen - and that's saying something! Once again, Electronic Arts have come up with the goods; an incredible game which only Captain Dough Head would miss.

The platform theme is great and the game is fast, enjoyable and downright groovy. The game is huge, with tons of levels and secret screens - the only difference between this and the Amiga game, is that the coloured backgrounds have been replaced with less colourful, but more detailed parallax backdrops.

ASM (Aktueller Software Markt)

James Pond II is no thumb-buster, and its cutesy graphics will have great appeal to younger gamers or the terminally sweet. However, saving Santa's toys really pumps your brain. there's something fishy going on here, and that's a good thing.

Thunderbolt Games
Overall, James Pond 2 is a riot to play. The gameplay maybe unoriginal but the inspired surrealness of the concept and design makes it a deeply enjoyable experience. Towards the end like many 2D platform games it can get very demanding on your reactions and memory and cheap deaths can be unavoidable. But the sheer charm of James himself, grooving backwards and forwards constantly in his stylish, stretchy suit always brings you back for more. Well thank you for herring me out about this great game, hope I didn't give you a haddock going on about it. Now if you'll excuse me I have no fish to keep you any longer, I'll see myself trout.

Power Play

The music and effects are not really noteworthy, although the fact that the tunes include digital renditions of 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas' only serves to reiterate the fact that this game just doesn't feel right for eleven months of the year. Which is a pity, as this game could have been an all-time classic. As it is, it's still a terrific game, just as long as you play it at the right time of year...
