SummaryVery good side-scrolling platformer.
The GoodMystic defender was a wonderful side-scrolling platform game with great graphics and music. It was also somewhat unconventional and used a different sprite in the Japanese release than the American.
The backgrounds and characters are very detailed and the plot, while simple, is interesting. There are also an interesting variety of weapons and the control is good.
Unfortunately, this game has been all but forgotten.
The BadThis game is bit difficult. It took me until 1991 to reach the last level and I purchased it in 1989. There are several areas where the control, while normally decent, is not adequate. There was also no game save feature so if you spent five hours reaching level 7 and had to go work you were screwed.
The Bottom LineFun platform game. Too difficult for younger players. It will frustrate them. Its the sequal to Spellcaster for the Sega Master System which is somewhat different and involved RPG elements.
Some other good platform games are Shadow Dancer, Revenge of Shinobi, Shinobi 3, and Ghouls'N Ghosts.
