Out of This World

The success of Another World influenced several notable future games such as Flashback. It also helped bury the notion that a more coherent, movie-like game had to have reels of real-life film and real-life actors in it. For the first time, the potential of videogames to induce empathy in the player was being realised, rather than just provide pretty ways to test your reflexes and puzzle solving skills. Plots and characters are ten a penny in videogames these days, but back then finding a game to involve you on an intellectual as well as instinctive level was almost impossible. For being a thought provoking game Another World deserves to be commended.

A l’heure où ces lignes sont écrites, Another World fête sa majorité, et démontre sa maturité par l’aura et l’âme qu’il dégage, encore aujourd’hui. Plus qu’un simple jeu, c’est avant tout une légende, de par son développement, mais également par l’expérience qu’il a procurée à tant de joueurs différents. Pour avoir su avec brio casser des barrières ancestrales, pour le voyage qu’il nous aura fait entreprendre… Merci, Mr Chahi.

Out of This World is a landmark game for a host of reasons, from the 2D polygonal work to its excellent narrative. I think what strikes me most about the game, even today, is its ability to tell a compelling story without holding up flashing signs. Without text or speech, you have to find the game's emotional core on your own as well as solve its series of challenges. If you want to see a major influence in motion, hunt down a copy of Out of This World for the PC or consoles. Or, if you want the purest experience, dust off an Amiga. The reward is worth the effort.

This port may not be the best version of Out of this World. Nevertheless, the game still is deeply involving - though the impatient player will not get the true quality out of it. Try to gain some patience, and give it a try, and you'll go through a unique and intriguing gaming experience, even compared to many of today's video games.

Another World to gra legenda. Wspaniała przygoda z fabułą wciągającą jak bagno. Kolejny z tytułów obowiązkowych dla każdego retrogracza. To również jedna z tych pozycji, o których mówi się, że to gra z polotem. Zaskakująca, intrygująca i dająca graczowi swoistą satysfakcje z pokonywania niebezpieczeństw, jakie czyhają na Lestera w obcym świecie, w jakim się znalazł. Polecam z czystym sumieniem.

Another World is een spannend en gevarieerd spel dat zowel actie als avontuur bevat. Nadeel is vooral dat het meteen heel moeilijk wordt, en je dus niet echt de tijd hebt om op gang te komen.

Unterm Strich bliebt ein solider Action-Geschicklichkeitsmix übrig, der dank besserer Bedienung gelungener ist als das triste Computervorbild.
