I am really stunned by the quality of this game. The control is excellent and the variety of courses really add to the fun of the game. I like the new jumps, and the fact that there are 20 or so stages makes Outrun 2019 much better than the original.

The controls are simple - just hold down the accelerator and steer. Every few minutes your turbo boost kicks in, but it's so unimpressive you might not even notice. The early stages are a cakewalk; you can practically ride through the oncoming cars. In the later stages they can run you off the road, but the game immediately puts you right back on the track. The only thing you really need to worry about is falling off bridges or flipping your car. The audio is awful, and the monotonous background music drones on endlessly, even when you pause the game. Outrun 2019 has plenty of glitz, but it can't hide the shallow gameplay.
But through all the highs and lows, Outrun 2019 never ceases to be a lot of fun if you can overlook how shallow it is. I catch myself coming back to it far more than I expected to, because it's really fun to play and I enjoy exploring all the forks in the road, just to see the different environments and background graphics. If you play games by yourself frequently and you just happen to be looking for a mildly engaging racing title to add to your collection, go ahead and hunt down Outrun 2019. Just don't expect it to entertain you for hours on end or for it to be jam-packed with interesting options or originality.
Sure, the car's fast, but that's the only challenge here. You don't even race opponents - only the clock. The special features seem to be afterthoughts. Blah.
