Description

Sonic and Tails must stop Dr. Robotnik from rebuilding his Death Egg, which crash landed on the Floating Island. This island floats because of the power of the Chaos Emeralds. You must get them before Robotnik does. However, Knuckles the Echidna, an inhabitant of the Floating Island tries to prevent you from doing so.

Guide Sonic and Tails through 6 zones, each 3 times bigger than those found in Sonic 2. Collect rings, defeat enemies, look for bonus stages to get all Chaos Emeralds. You can save your game and choose from levels you've already visited. You can also race against the clock in a time trial mode or 2 player mode.

Trivia

Michael Jackson, along with some of his musicians, was originally going to do the music, but when legal scandals broke out SEGA didn't want him involved anymore. The completed songs were used and Howard Drossin finished the soundtrack, later used in Sonic & Knuckles.

Some of his tracks are still in there. The Ice Cap Zone theme, when slowed down, sounds like Who is It, five seconds of the Carnival Night Zone theme resemble Jam, etc.
