If you can't appreciate Splatterhouse's gross-out factor, you can surely appreciate its other redeeming qualities, which include awesome graphics, neato sound effects and music, mondo challenge, and non-thumb-threatening character control. If you've ever wanted to seek revenge on all those early childhood closet monsters, now's your chance to do it vicariously through Splatterhouse 2. Good to the last splat!

Par rapport à la version PC Engine, cette réalisation sur Megadrive est plus complète et suit bien plus profondément la version originale de Namco en arcade. Un bon jeu à ne pas mettre entre toutes les mains.

Just Games Retro
I've made a lot of noise about the gore in Splatterhouse 2, but not a lot about how fun it is. It's a well-made brawler, and worth playing on that merit alone, not just to see the next way you'll kill a creature (though that is fun as well). It has a nice balance of difficulty with enough lives, level passwords, and continues to keep you from getting too frustrated. It's not quite as refined or complex as other brawlers, and the weapons and their individual effects only partially make up for a lack of moves. Fortunately, you won't need more than you have, and any feelings of mononoty are mostly quelled by the game's appropriate length. Not a must-play, but lots of fun for fans of the genre.

Don't let the lack of new attacks turn you away. There's plenty of fun to be had with this game and I'm sure you'll go back to it may times. Its cool graphics and spooky feel aren't common on the Genesis and warrant a purchase. Just be prepared to pay a bit for it. Splatterhouse 2 is the rarest of the three and can fetch up to $30 on ebay.

Digital Press - Classic Video Games
To sum it all up this cart has a lot to offer gamers new and old. The graphics are excellent, sound effects are real good, and most importantly it is a challenge to play once you compensate for the sluggish controls. If you like Splatterhouse, you'll love II. Please remember some of the younger gamers may be disturbed by the graphic nature of this game (kudos to Namco for stating this on the box for concerned parents). Plug it in and enjoy the carnage.

The Video Game Critic
The first Splatterhouse, released for the Turbografx-16, was a fantastic hack-n-slash video game. This sequel provides more of the same, but it's too repetitious. The main character is a muscular guy in a hockey mask. The sights in this game will remind you of every horror movie from Friday the 13th to Evil Dead to Hellraiser. Most of the creatures splatter green blood when hit with a two-by-four, a bone, or any other weapon you can find. The bosses are particularly large and disgusting. Unfortunately, many of these monsters simply require too many hits, a trend that continued with Splatterhouse 3.
