The graphics are very colourful, although they slow down a bit when there's too much going on. The sound, too, is relatively happy, although not a patch on the PC Engine CD-ROM version (understandably). A very addictive game, that's great fun in two-player mode with loads of continues.
ASM (Aktueller Software Markt)
Computer and Video Games (CVG)
It's time to get out that nappy and ready yourself for yet another test of your platform shoot 'em up skills. With it's jolly graphics and appealing sound. Wonderboy 3 is initially quite enjoyable, but the action is quite monotonous so it all gets pretty tedious after a while. One for arcade fans only.
So, overall? Despite the overtly negative tone of this review, I do have a soft spot for Monster Lair. It is particularly good in two-player mode, and I recommend you play it with a friend should you desire to play it at all. The presentation is terrible, and it has some unforgivable flaws, but much of the game is fun if you're into shooters, platformers or even just Wonder Boy. As I began, it is indeed the worst Wonder Boy game ever made but it is very far from the worst Mega Drive game ever made and that makes it alright.
