But that's what God of War Collection is all about -- it's not a comprehensive museum-style release with tons of improvements, new bonus features, Chains of Olympus, Betrayal, etc., but instead a great rerelease of two of the best games of all time in high definition. Here's hoping Sony continues the trend with another critical darling pair of games soon.
PlayStation 3Gaming Age
Even though they are dated, having both HD remastered games on a single Blu-ray Disc with all the extras and bonus content, and now Trophies, for under $40 (or $36.99 at Amazon) is really a great deal. With that being said, in preparation for God of War III it's hard not to fully recommend the God of War Collection for those new to the series as well as fans.
PlayStation 3Cheat Code Central
If you've never played God of War before, do yourself a favor and grab a copy of God of War Collection. God of War and God of War II are games worth playing if you're a fan of action-adventure gaming at its best. Plus, the updated visuals make these games a lot more appealing for current-gen gamers. Now, if you've played the games before, you might also have to do yourself a favor and replay them in this new format, not only because it's worth experiencing all over again, but because it will get you ready for the last chapter of the trilogy.
I don’t want to sound like a broken record but when you see a great compilation like this one, you can’t say it enough. If you are looking for a great package deal in terms of length, great price and quality, there’s no way you should pass on this one. Now, if you never, EVER, heard or played any game from this mythic franchise, then you must add this compilation to your game collection.
As a compilation of graphical updates to some of the industry's most well-received games, God of War Collection is a must-have for any who want to re-visit Kratos' storyline before the next sequel is released—though you get a taste of what's to come with the added download code for the E3 demo. It may be the gaming equivalent of upgrading from DVD to Blu-ray Discs since the core gameplay remains untouched, but whether you've played either of the God of War games or not, this two-for is the way to experience the classics.
If you have not played the God of War series, you owe it to yourself to buy this game immediately. If you have played the God of War series, this is a great chance to relive the controller-snapping difficulty present in one of the best pair of adventure games ever made. At a price of 40 dollars for the pair of games, an included voucher for the God of War III E3 2009 Demo, and all of the incredible graphical and framerate improvements, you simply can't go wrong.
PlayStation 3Gamers' Temple, The
God of War and God of War II hold up very well to the test of time and are still very exciting, engrossing, and just plain fun action games. This collection is highly recommended to any PS3 owner who hasn't experienced the games before, or to anyone who wants to relive the experience as a lead in to the release of God of War III.
The God of War Collection is now the definitive way to play the original two PlayStation 2 titles, and for folks who somehow never owned a PS2 and who don't have a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3, this marks the first time that they've been able to play them. At $40 for two of the best action games ever made, and the perfect precursors to next March's God of War III, this is a collection that you shouldn't pass up.
PlayStation 3PSX Extreme
Don't just buy this collection as a way to get your hands on the demo early, because this bundle of amazing software is dripping with quality. Both games have retained their signature gameplay, all the while gaining new and improved visuals, boasting full 720p resolutions, better texture details, anti-aliasing, trophy support, behind the scenes footage, and, yes, a demo of God of War III. Seriously, replaying this on your PlayStation 3 makes you often forget you're playing PS2 games. For $40, this is the steal of the year.
PlayStation 3Game Revolution
In other words, get it already. The only people that shouldn’t are those who have already played the first two God of War titles on the PS2 and couldn’t care less about whether it was in 480p or 720p or 859ipa (or whatever). Of course, if you found that last bit insulting and haven’t played any God of War title at all, then we should expect you standing in line. God of War Collection doesn’t really change anything about the God of War series other than a graphical facelift and there’s no way to go back to the game selection screen other than reloading the game, but it’s hard to complain about two HD-enhanced ‘A-‘ titles for $20 apiece.

Far from being mere exercises in nostalgia, these hugely entertaining HD versions underline exactly why we all got so excited about them in the first place, and suggests that while God of War III faces off against a lot of big names in 2010, the greatest threats to its dominance lie in its own past. Best of all, PS3 games are region-free, so there's no excuse for not importing this immediately. Simply divine.
PlayStation 3Da Gameboyz
The God of War Collection is really a no brainer for fans of the franchise. You can’t go wrong in picking it up and seeing all the work that has been put into its HD rebirth. As for newbies to the series, this is the perfect time to see what all the hubbub is about and a great way to prepare yourself for the third and final chapter that is coming out on the PS3 in the New Year.
All told, the God of War Collection provides just about everything that an action gamer could hope for, from thrilling boss fights to an epic storyline that sweeps through Greek mythology.
This game package goes to show how far ahead of its time the God of War concept was in terms of execution and production values. These games haven't lost much punch as they collected dust on the PS2's shelves. If, for some reason, you haven't played God of War games, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up with the rest of the gaming world. With the updated textures, you'd be hard pressed to find a better value for all the spectacular moments you get reliving these classic titles as the anticipation grows for the final chapter in the saga of the Ghost of Sparta.
PlayStation 3Playstation Universe
Ultimately, God of War Collection is absolutely packed with quality content, making it an ideal purchase for fans and newcomers alike – throw in an attractive budget price point of USD $39.99, and you can’t really go wrong. Take the plunge and relive one of last generation’s finest slices of entertainment in sumptuous eye-popping HD glory.
An absolute no-brainer for those who missed out the first time, the God of War Collection packs two phenomenal titles into one great package for a bargain price. Even if you have played them before, the visual and framerate upgrade is well worth it.
PlayStation 3Extreme Gamer
The God of War Collection has been given a visual bump making for a smoother ride as you relive some of the finest moments of Playstation 2 gaming. Even without its HD makeover, this collection would be worth checking out because it clearly shows us why the first two God of War games are so special. In the odd chance that you haven’t played original God of War games this is the perfect opportunity to get caught up before God of War III is released.
God of War Collection provides the definitive versions of two PS2 classics. If you've never played them before, there's never been a better time to check them out. For hardcore fans, the updated visuals amount to experiencing these stellar games with fresh eyes. Consider the God of War III demo included in the package icing on the cake.
If you are a hardcore fan of the series, you probably already got your copy when stores opened today. If you just bought a PS3 slim and need your GoW fix, here you go. If you own a PS3 that can play PS2 games, know that this collection is the definitive versions of the PS2 GoW games and you can part with your old copies with confidence.
PlayStation 3Giant Bomb
It's also essential for diehard God of War purists who want to own the best possible versions of these games for posterity. For someone who already has the original releases and a backwards-compatible PlayStation 3, on the other hand, God of War Collection is a harder sell. But it's ultimately most valuable to people who didn't play much or any of the originals, for whom this package serves as both a fine refresher course and also a couple of kick-ass action games, available on the cheap.
God of War Collection was a good experience, because it proved one thing to me: almost five years later, the original God of War is still a phenomenal game. Its evocative settings, clever twists on classical Greek mythology, morbid puzzles, and responsive combat still deliver a stellar experience. Episode two, also contained on this disc, continues to mix straight-up fighting with button-pressing and stick-twisting minigames. It's not a style that everyone will appreciate, but those who do won't find the same experience anywhere else.
Both God of War 1 and 2 are incredible games that deserve the best possible treatment. Unfortunately, the Vita version of God of War Collection just doesn't do the series justice. If you're a GoW fan and want to take Kratos on the go, you might want to dust off your PSP and revisit Ready At Dawn’s excellent Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. If your heart is set on replaying the original God of War games however, I recommend playing the Playstation 3 version of this collection, which conveniently, comes with this Vita version via Cross-Buy. In other words, there are many great ways to experience Kratos’ epic tale of vengeance, but God of War Collection Vita isn’t one of them.
