Grand Theft Auto 2

In my opinion the first GTA showed us an idea, but GTA 2 showed us that this type of game was here to stay. I dare say that the later GTA games would've never seen the light of day, had GTA 2 not improved the first game and proved to the world that such games were possible to make without flaws.

In conclusion, if you played GTA and you like it and are not bored with it, get this game NOW! If you are new to this game, like arcade style games, and have a good sense of humor, this could be the game of the year for you. The graphics are early 1998, the sound is ok, but the gameplay and fun factor are outstanding.

GTA 2 is een super vette game! De graphics zijn nog steeds lekker simpel, maar het is vooral de gameplay waar dit spel dubbel en dwars op scoort! Ziek, hard, humor en rete-verslavend.

Regardless of what I say there will be many who will rush out and buy this game because of it's 'touchy' contentious subject. To the rest of you I say don't expect a graphical treasure but the gameplay will take take some time to complete while raising a few smiles on the way.

Zugegeben: Der tiefschwarze Humor, der sich durch GTA 2 zieht und die Grenzen des guten Geschmacks mehr als einmal verlässt, ist sicherlich nicht jedermanns Sache. Lobenswerterweise schafft es das Entwicklerteam Rockstar aber wieder einmal, die in der Stadt vorherrschende Gewalt dermaßen hemmungslos zu überzeichnen, dass die satirische Absicht auch dem letzten Skeptiker klar werden dürfte. Ansonsten ist GTA 2 im Prinzip ein Grand Theft Auto in Perfektion - nicht mehr und nicht weniger. Grafik, Sound und Gameplay sind im Vergleich zum Vorgänger klar verbessert, das Tempo ist nach wie vor atemberaubend - und süchtig haben die anarchistischen Blech- und Straßenschlachten schon immer gemacht. Ein im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes todsicherer Tipp für alle, denen Driver zu brav und Gangsters zu dröge war.

Man kan tycka att det är lite slapphänt av DMA att inte försöka göra Grand Theft Auto 2 mer innovativt. I grund och botten skiljer det sig inte fundamentalt från Grand Theft Auto, eller Grand Theft Auto: London. Fortfarande härskar den grötiga grafiken, och spelkontrollen har inte förbättrats speciellt mycket. Det händer visserligen mer saker och ting runt omkring. Folk blir rånade, skottlossningar utvecklas och svordomar förmedlas i större utsträckning. Annars är allt mer eller mindre som förr - ett spel av vuxna för vuxna. Och absolut ingenting annat.

GTA 2 ziet er in de eerste momenten zeer beloftevol uit: knappe graphics, verbeterde A.I., grote maps, noem maar op... Spijtig genoeg wordt de gameplay serieus genekt door een gebrekkig overzicht tijdens het rijden en het volledig ontbreken van een mapfunctie. Misschien dat dit alles de echte GTA fans niet zal storen, maar wat mij betreft maakt dit van GTA 2 een schampschot in plaats van een rasechte treffer...

Ohne das eigentliche Grundkonzept anzutasten, hat Rockstar geradezu unendlich viele kleine Fortschritte eingebracht. Die Steuerung und die wichtigste Neuerung: Endlich gibt es eine Speicherfunktion, die vor allem vor gefährlichen Aufträgen sehr nützlich ist. Wer schon den ersten Teil mochte, sollte nicht zögern, sondern mit Karacho zum nächsten Software-Laden brettern.

Overall, Grand Theft Auto 2 is the kind of game you play when you want to experience life as a member of the bottom of the criminal food chain. You don't ever want to find yourself living like one of these guys, but it's fun to visit for a while. If you like intense action, mindless violence, and total chaos, then Grand Theft Auto 2 is a game you want in your collection.

With this slight irritation, Grand Theft Auto 2 is a brilliant delight, offering gruesome pleasure in a new kind of way. Though it is rooted within the original's origins, it offers up a new dimension of gaming that can be appreciated by those looking for something different. It will not, however, be appreciated by the concerned parents of young children.

This game is a release for all who have chosen not to answer the little voice that urges them to inflict violence upon anyone who adds to our daily tribulations, storing up the daily stresses until our hearts can carry the burden no longer. The world needs this game.

It's arguable that because the original wasn't exactly lacking in gameplay, a mere evolution like Grand Theft Auto 2 (its new, slightly hipper moniker) isn't really necessary. And if you've been playing the original (and its expansion pack) obsessively for the couple of years, it may very well be a complete waste of your time and money. But for those that enjoyed the original's hours-upon-hours of gameplay and moved on to other things, this game is a welcome reminder that superior gameplay is always more important than cutting-edge technology.

I don't know what happened between then and now, but it feels like GTA2 was done by another company. The quality is substandard and the only thing that it reminiscent of the original is the premise. When it comes down to it, stripping away the gameplay, all GTA2 brings to the table is foul language, gratuitous violence, and aging 2D graphics. Once my bloodlust was quenched, GTA became a monotonous and painfully shallow game.

Hemmungslos über den Freeway brettern, die Polizei in halsbrecherischen Verfolgungsjagden austricksen, sich Feuergefechte mit den Gesetzeshütern liefern, nach Extras jagen und unter ultraknappen Zeitlimits schwitzen – das ist GTA 2. Wer sich von der Fortsetzung mehr erwartet hat, wird allerdings enttäuscht. Die Handlungsfreiheit garantiert zwar Langzeitspielspaß, trotzdem hätte ich mir Zwischensequenzen oder eine echte Story gewünscht – das Gangster-Szenario hätte doch wirklich genug Möglichkeiten geboten.

This game will keep fans of the series playing for a while, while gamers new to this genre may find themselves pleasantly surprised or disappointed.

Au final, GTA 2 est un remake du premier. Le système de jeu n'a subi que des changements mineurs et on retrouve hélas les mêmes bugs ou petits défauts que dans le premier, comme les zooms intempestifs pixelisant le moindre sprite ou bien encore les policiers qui, en voiture, ne font pas preuve d'une IA à toute épreuve malgré leur acharnement... Les quelques changements graphiques sont évidemment les bienvenus mais ne transcendent pas les graphismes. Si GTA 2 était sorti à la place de GTA, on aurait pu dire "génial" mais quand on sait que ce que des titres tout en 3D comme Driver arrivent à faire, on tique un peu malgré l'excellent gameplay et l'humour de la série des Grand Theft Auto.

Sorti sur nos machines il y a déja près d'un an et demi, Grand Theft Auto avait su défrayer la chronique par un gameplay à la fois novateur et particulièrement violent. Autant adulé par les fans que détesté par une majorité de la presse spécialisée, GTA avait en outre su s'attirer les foudres de diverses associations de familles "bien pensantes", inquiètes pour la santé de leurs bambins. Toutefois, malgré plusieurs procès, cela n'aura pas réussi a effrayer Rockstar qui, fort du succès commercial de son titre, nous présente aujourd'hui sa suite, sobrement intitulée GTA 2.

When you boil it down, GTA2 doesn't further the aims of the original game, and it's still as base and sophomoric as ever. As simple and mindless as it is, though, it keeps me coming back for more. There's not much here in terms of graphical improvement, and there's really not all that much variety in gameplay, but damn if it's not a fun little game -- just like the original. There's nothing innovative, nothing that creative, and it's not going to win any awards, but I find it addictive, entertaining, and challenging ... and isn't that why we all play games in the first place?

GTA2 provides the same comically violent gameplay as that of the original. If little guys peeling each other's caps with a variety of weapons easily offend you, or if exploding cars and police sirens turn you off, then don't waste your time with GTA2. However, if you're looking to commit some virtual crimes on your Dreamcast, then by all means steal a car, drive it down to your local game retailer, and slap around the owner until he gives you a copy. OK, it might just be easier for you to buy one instead.

Fans of the original GTA will almost certainly love this game the moment they start it, but the violent themes that make this game any fun to play also give it the"M" rating that could keep it out of the hands of the very kids who will want to play it. You will be impressed at first then amused for the next few hours, but once the shock value of the violence and the beautiful graphics has worn off you will be left with a hard-to-control, frustrating strategy game that most of you will have to force yourself to finish.

Call me a philistine for not liking what has been bandied as the next great game but I can't in all good conscious recommend Grand Theft Auto 2. Normally when poor graphic and interface choices have been made the overall gameplay wasn't that good anyway. Here we have one of the few times that good gameplay has been badly hampered by control and graphic choices. However, especially for those of you who enjoyed the first, I do recommend it as a rental because if you can get by the control and graphic issues this is a game you may well enjoy. As for it being new a different, well, you're not in for anything exciting.

Whether or not you'll enjoy Grand Theft Auto 2 depends on a couple factors. If you're easily offended by the concept of running around and committing wanton acts of destruction with a few simple button presses, this game isn't for you. If the first game's control scheme baffled you, there's no solace to be found here either. Though the game manages to be quite a bit of fun, it occasionally still feels like a glorified mission pack.

For the most part, Grand Theft Auto 2 gave a big effort and tried its bloody little heart out at being a premier title. But with the shoddy play mechanics and a sometimes overspent nonlinear approach at completing your tasks, DMA and Take 2 could have done better. Recommended as a rental at best, try before you buy this creative entry into a usually cookie-cutter clean action genre.

Le pire vient en tout cas de la maniabilité de cet opus sur Dreamcast. Les contrôles sont non seulement difficiles dans le jeu mais aussi dans leur pratique dans la réalité. Pour exemple, les commandes avancer et reculer sont dirigées par 2 boutons alors que votre axe de déplacement est lui contrôlé par le stick. Une double commande qui gêne la fluidité et on ne s'y habitue même pas après de nombreuses heures de jeu. Une faute grave surtout que la visibilité par exemple de nuit est médiocre, forçant à faire très attention en permanence.

Basically, I was unable to take Grand Theft Auto 2 seriously as a game. I found it much more rewarding and fun to ignore the jobs from the gangs and just shoot as many people as possible before the fuzz brought me down. The most annoying aspect of the game is the ability of the police to open your door as you try to drive off. I'm pretty sure I would lock the doors if the cops were after me for a killing spree. I do recommend Grand Theft Auto 2 for a good time, but not if you're looking for a serious game.

Ultimately, GTA2 is a fun but flawed game. It could have used better graphics and a save feature. But at $10, you could certainly do a lot worse. However, many other Greatest Hits games are the same price, so you may want to check them out first. An interesting idea for a little while, but after that you won’t pick it up and play it that much. It’s too bad, because it brings some really innovative ideas to games of the action genre. People able to overlook GTA2’s flaws will like it a lot, but the rest should rent it to see what it does right.

The main problem with his game is the control. You're forced to use the analog controller, which is fine for driving, but it's hard to get your man to walk in the right direction - a big problem when you're running from police. Also, too much time is spent trying to find the phones. The sound is terrific, with realistic city background noises, and radio stations that play when you're in the car. Overall, GTA2 is somewhat interesting, but the control holds it back.

Som ni säkert förstått vid det här laget är det här inget spel att satsa på. Gillar man actionfyllda bilspel är Driver en miljon gånger bättre. Köp det istället.
