Grid Runner has not been given considerable attention by the press. Don't let that be the deciding factor over whether or not you give this game a trial run. I think if you give it a solid weekend's workout, you'll be as impressed by Grid Runner as I am. Now, Radical, can we talk about a four or eight player version of this game that would give Bomberman a run for his money?
Ahhh, now this game hits the spot. Grid Runner is a super cool sci-fi update on the maze game craze that was so popular in the early and mid eighties. It features tons of imaginative levels, tenacious enemies, devastating weapons and nifty magical abilities. The visuals are crisp, the control is perfect, the music is appropriate techno bop, and the game itself is extremely addictive. In this era of way too many fighters, racers and first person corridor shooters, Grid Runner is a welcome breath of fresh air.
If you're looking for the ultimate two-player game, Grid Runner is it. No other title on the Sega Saturn is this addictive or this much fun.

The graphics are a little jagged at times but the ground warping is a cool effect. What really makes me like this one is the Two-player Mode though. I just really enjoyed running around on the grid as your opponent was after you. I think it's more of a two-player game.
Graphically speaking, Grid Runner represents a considerable leap from the 2-D rendered BomberMan, and the 3-D mazes and animations evoke memories of long nights spent kicking bombs in front of the SNES. In terms of play, there's nothing terribly innovative here. In fact, people who were hooked on the cute dementia of BomberMan might not find everything they're looking for in this game. But don't be mistaken, Grid Runner is an addictive dash around the Playstation.

When I first played Grid Runner, I thought "how amusing-tag your it". Then I played with a friend and it was intense. Even when he beat the daylights out of me it was fun. Then I got a little better, and I beat the daylights out of him. Then the game was really fun. Even though the one player game wears thin, the two player game is fun enough to make Grid Runner an exceptable investment.
Es packt Dich. Sogar sehr.
If you enjoy PSX party games such as Worms then I would advise you to pick up a copy of Grid Run. The game is simple to pick up and easy to understand. It also has the same two player catch that keeps players going back for more, which is present in most games that include a Deathmatch mode.
In the end, Grid Runner's solid and creative gameplay, excellent techno soundtrack, and brilliant multiplayer feel outweigh the negative effects of its hokey plot and repetitiveness. If you're looking for a solid title that's a bit different from anything you've seen before, Grid Runner is definitely worth a second look.
Each successive level becomes more and more complex, with teleports, gaps, and other hazards getting in your way. Maneuvering around these barriers can sometimes be a little tricky, as the control tends to "stick" on the corners. However, with a little practice, you'll soon get the hang of it. The graphics are pretty fresh, in a cartoony-sprite way. Some of the levels are set against planetary scenery, although the monsters don't look like much while you're actually playing. While the one-player game may drag after five or six levels, the two-player game can be a lot of fun. It's no Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, but it does offer an interesting diversion from the usual staple of games.

The upper stages are not easy - more aggressive opponents, new traps and peculiar physical phenomena pose ever-mounting obstacles; and new tricks appear at every turn. Increasingly fast-paced, the game can become highly addictive, and two-player mode adds that "Gotcha" factor. Although its addictiveness is a very important element, Grid Runner's primitive graphical quality pales in comparison to some of the competition. The monsters are hokey, and players looking for highly intricate settings with Descent-quality 3D mapping might be disappointed. Nonetheless, addictive it is - and for most, that will be the whole point.
Grid Run is good fun to start with as you traipse through the levels kicking monster butt, but after a while it starts to get very, very boring, and the tone isn’t lifted much by a mundane soundtrack that not even Dale Winton would shake his oversized M&S pants to! So who would buy something like this? Fools? Masochists? Or simply some lost soul in search of a decent multi-player game? Grid Run does indeed boast multiplayer capabilities if you link two PlayStations up with two people playing on each. But not even that can disguise the fact that this game is, when all else is said and done, poop.

The characters are pixelated, but the backgrounds look good, especially the snowy ice stage. Your 15 opponents are quite imaginative, ranging from a lizard man, to a Minotaur, to a crab monster, and each has a fitting home world. Grid Runner has a reasonable learning curve and provides a nice save feature.

GRID RUNNER is a handsome game that's easy to learn and initially fun to play. There's just not much substance behind the glitter, suggesting that the designers should have spent more effort bolstering gameplay, not just special effects. With greater content and a remote two-player option, this might have been a hit, not just another close call.
WindowsPC Games (Germany)
WindowsWorld Village (Gamer's Zone)
Not only was Grid Runner difficult to set up, but its poor audio and video quality crippled the product from the start. Secondly, its usage of Windows 95 technologies was non-existant, as was the support for the Gravis Gamepad. Added in was a contrived plot and weak storyline. All of these factors combined created a very forgettable experience with Grid Runner. Unless you're looking to waste money on a recycled 8-bit pc game, don't purchase Grid Runner.
