Guild Wars: Nightfall

Guild Wars: Nightfall is the perfect choice for anyone who enjoys the multiplayer aspects of MMOGs but wants the detailed plot of a single-player RPG. Fantasy genre lovers also owe it to themselves to abandon the dank dungeons and frozen forests of traditional European settings and take a little tropical vacation in Elona.

Whether looked at as a standalone game or an update to previousGuild Wars titles, Nightfall is a winner. While it isn't particularly innovative and won't win any awards for major technical upgrades, it is a very nice addition to the series, and most importantly, it's simply fun to play. While it does have its issues, these are quite clearly and dominantly overshadowed by just how fun the game is. If Factions turned you off, don't let that stop you from checking out Nightfall. Those who haven't played a Guild Wars title before would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn't give the Guild Warsseries a shot.

Guild Wars: Nightfall ist eine konsequente und gute Weiterentwicklung des Online-Rollenspiels und weiß vor allem durch das neue Helden-Feature zu überzeugen. Flexibel wie nie zuvor dürfen sich Fans des Spiels in die dritte Kampagne stürzen und ein vielseitiges Abenteuer erleben, bei dem das Bemühen, eine dichte Atmosphäre zu stricken, spürbar ist. Kein anderes MMOG vermag es überdies, den Spielern so viele Freiheiten bei ihren Spielentscheidung zu überlassen wie Guild Wars. Fans der Reihe werden vom dritten Teil mit Sicherheit nicht enttäuscht sein. Dank der Eigenständigkeit und der Abstinenz eines Abo-Systems bleibt das Spiel aber auch für Neueinsteiger reizvoll.

The original Guild Wars broke a lot of rules. It was a fast-paced, stripped-down, competitive MMOG, with no monthly fee to play. Guild Wars: Factions broke the rules again: not an expansion pack, but a whole new game which could be played without buying the original. Guild Wars: Nightfall doesn't break any more rules. But it does deliver new game play, a new continent, new professions, and a great story. And it all adds up to the best installment in the Guild Wars saga yet.

The entire game's laced with similar bits of geek humor, including a duo of complementary skills that reference Tim Allen's catchphrase from Galaxy Quest ("Never Give Up!" and "Never Surrender!") and an entire quest spoofing last summer's schlocky Snakes on a Plane. Nightfall's certainly a game that knows its audience if you aren't a part of that audience yet, this is unequivocally the best place to indoctrinate yourself.

Ich muss zugeben, Guild Wars hat mich nie richtig gereizt, was vielleicht daran liegen mag, dass ich World of Warcraft als Optimum in Sachen Online-Rollenspiele ansehen habe. Ein Irrtum, der durch diesen Test glücklicherweise korrigiert wurde. In Sachen PvP ist Guild Wars weiterhin ungeschlagen und dank Nightfall ist die Serie nun auch für Fans klassischer Rollenspiele noch einen Tick interessanter. Vor allem die lange, wendungsreiche Kampagne mit ihren vielen Herausforderungen und der noch stärkere Teamaspekt des neuen Guild Wars haben es mir angetan. Da stören auch kleinere Fehler und der teilweise hohe Schwierigkeitsgrad nicht weiter.

Nightfall bouwt verder op de sterke Guild Wars-formule en biedt weer heel wat online spelplezier aan een redelijke prijs.

Ich bin jemand, der gerne questet und Landschaften erkundet, deswegen geht es mir bei Guild Wars Nightfall kaum um das PvP. Ich freue mich vielmehr, dass in die Missionen kleine Spielereien eingebaut wurden. Um zum Beispiel Vareshs Oberkommandantin zu treffen, müssen wir ein paar Korsaren meucheln und uns deren Klamotten aneignen. Spitze. Gleichzeitig ist's aber auch schade, dass ich erst spät in den Genuss solcher Späße komme, weil die Stufenanordnung für die meisten Missionen der Hauptquest recht hoch ist. Außerdem habe ich auch das klitzekleine Gefühl, dass die neuen Klasen Updates der Factions-Klassen Ritualist und Assassine sind. Ich hoffe, Arenanet sind noch nicht die Ideen für neue Klassen in den nächsten Addons ausgegangen.

Granted, this is a $50 expansion, but with such things rolling out every six months, one is still saving money over the $15 monthly fees other MMOs charge, but the fact that these expansion packs are entirely optional makes them attractive, as you can always wait a month or two playing other games and still go back to GW when you’re ready to buy the next one (or just want to play with your old characters). Still, any fan of the series, already dedicated to playing the game at least a few hours a week, will find this well worth the investment.

It offers plenty of augmented features to make playing solo more viable, while simultaneously facilitating cooperative play. Grouping with a few players then dropping in Heroes to fill the open slots is far more time efficient than waiting to fill up an entire group with human players. The new Dervish and Paragon classes have some interesting abilities, and are certainly worth checking out for those who've been playing Guild Wars for a while now. The gameplay itself is still largely the same, so don't expect anything drastically new (controllable sandworms excluded) if you're thinking about a purchase. Tweaks to the menus mean the game's easier to navigate, weapon and skill loadouts can be saved, and the Hero Battle mode provides an alternative for PvP players sick of relying on a human controlled team. Despite the fact that Nightfall feels similar to past campaigns, it's difficult not to recommend a game that's still so much fun to play.

Wer bislang noch nichts von Guild Wars gehört hat, besitzt entweder eine Abneigung gegen Online-Rollenspiele oder verbringt ganz einfach zu viel Zeit in World of Warcraft. Zu welcher Gruppe Sie sich auch zählen: Nightfall wird Ihnen Spaß machen. Nicht weil es besser oder gar das Gleiche ist wie Blizzards Online-Platzhirsch, sondern weil Arena Net mit dem dritten Kapitel der Guild Wars-Reihe abermals neue Akzente setzt und dabei dem beliebten Grundkonzept so treu bleibt, dass es Neueinsteiger genau wie alte Hasen zufriedenstellt.

While the core of the game may not have changed much, it still holds up well, and the addition of two new classes and a new role-playing campaign add a humungous amount of playability to an already content-ridden series.

But your decision about whether to delve into this latest chapter should ultimately come down to how much Guild Wars you've already played and how much more you want. Almost needless to say, legions of Guild Wars fans have already delved into Nightfall without a second thought. But if you've had your fill of Guild Wars and would prefer to see a bigger overhaul instead of an emphasis on more of what you're already used to, then you could live without this installment. Or if you haven't played any yet, Nightfall still offers unique and very deep gameplay that combines shades of massively multiplayer gaming, action RPGs, collectible card games, and competitive action games all in one. It's a formula that millions of players around the world are still actively engaged in with good reason.

Als je Guild Wars nog nooit gespeeld hebt en je bent op zoek naar een actierollenspelspel dat single- en multiplayeractie combineert in een rollenspelomgeving, dan is dit spel je ding.

Factions était orienté PvP, eh bien Nightfall est tourné vers le PvE et propose une aventure intéressante bourrée de quêtes variées. La possibilité d'avoir des héros que l'on peut équiper et personnaliser du point de vue des compétences est intéressante et plaira beaucoup à ceux qui apprécient jouer seul. Quant aux amateurs de combats entre joueurs, ils pourront s'adonner à leur activité favorite accompagné de leurs héros. Bref, voilà un stand-alone de très bonne tenue qui ravira aussi bien les fans de Guild Wars que ceux qui n'y ont jamais touché.

I dagens spelvärld där World of Warcraft dominerar MMORPG-marknaden finns det tack och lov alternativ. Vissa kör med ungefär samma koncept och jag är en av dem som tröttnat på alla dessa kloner. Letar du efter någonting som är lite annorlunda är Guild Wars: Nightfall ett intressant val. Är du en van spelare kommer du att känna igen dig fort. Tidigare i recensionen gav jag spelet titeln expansion. Priset för spelet hamnar dock närmare ett normalt PC-spel. Nyheter kan kännas få för gamla spelare av serien men för slitna WoW-spelare och vanliga människor är Nightfall ett mycket kompetent alternativ.

Guild Wars: Nightfall is als derde uitbreiding voor de populaire MMORPG-reeks zeker en vast een waardig nieuw deel. Er zijn enkele zeer leuke nieuwe dingen te vinden die je speelervaring enkel maar completer zullen maken. Toch is het zo dat Nightfall geen al te grote aanpassingen invoert, wat niet noodzakelijk slecht is, maar als gevolg heeft dat mensen die voorheen niet onder de indruk waren van Guild Wars dat door Nightfall ook niet zullen zijn. Al bij al een zeer degelijk spel dat onder de kerstboom zeker niet zou misstaan.
