Overall this is a very impressive title, and is the best fighting game on the GBA, second only to Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper. To its credit, GGX Advance was finished long before SFA3 Upper, which only makes it more impressive that it’s able to stand up against the newer titles on the system. Any fighting game fan needs to do himself a favor and pick this title up immediately.

Guilty Gear X2 redefines the fighter genre with a 2D fighter that literally stomps everything else that would hope to compete with it including the latest in 3D fighters. Proving that style and substance is always better than flashy graphics, then going ahead and adding the flashy graphics just to add insult to injury, Arc System Works has created the absolute best fighting game you can get on your PS2 to date.

Really, it's the second fighting game (though some might grit their teeth to know that Super Smash Brothers is the first) that has me anxiously awaiting a sequel. It’s not often that I unequivocally recommend a game for everyone, but Guilty Gear X2 deserves it. Even though I doubt enough people will be sensible enough to give it a whirl, it’s clearly one of the best games you’ll ever see on the Playstation 2.

Guilty Gear X is one of the best 2D fighting games available on the PlayStation 2. With stunning graphics and solid gameplay, you’ll be hard pressed to find flaws that take anything away from this game. The only complaint I have is after building a unique stor line, it would have been nice to see finishing animation at the end, different for each fighter. Other then that, Guilty Gear X won’t displease and it’s a must buy for any 2D fighting fan.

Once this game is released, go to your nearest retailer and pick up a copy of Guilty Gear X2 immediately! The game really is this good, with better graphics, smoother animation, and myriads of other things. If you love fighting games or a fan of games that are worth your time and money, than pick this game up; you will not regret it!

I still don't understand how a game like this has eluded the public eye for so long. Challenging, slick, and all around marvelous, Guilty Gear X2 deserves to appear in every fighting fan's library. They just have to forgive the fact that it doesn't say Capcom on it and give it the chance it's been screaming for. A glowing recommendation.

Still, Guilty Gear X will be remembered years from now. Most likely, you'll hear about it as the game that brought 2D graphics into the real next generation, and maybe back into the limelight as well. It doesn't necessarily do anything too new in terms of gameplay, and it's lacking in extras, but the easily managed yet deep fighting system, and the awesome sense of style, make this a game for all to try.

Guilty Gear X really surprised me. I was expecting a boring and slow-paced fighting title, like Tekken Tag Team, but what I found was the best fighting game for the PS2 of 2001. If you like fighting games and don't have a problem with manga- and anime-influenced graphics, or lightning fast action, Guilty Gear X is the one to pick up.

For any fan of fighting games, this would be a great addition to your library. Just keep in mind that most of the play will come from the versus mode, but it’s still a great purchase nonetheless. Now let’s hope someone brings it stateside so all gamers can appreciate it.

With great graphics, fluid control, and cool character design, you won't be disappointed with Guilty Gear X. If you're a hardcore fan of fighters, you owe it to yourself to snag a copy of this gem.

There have been a lot of 2d fighters for the GBA recently. Some admit to being 2d fighters and stay true to their formula, like Street Fighter 2 and others try to be pseudo-3d, like Tekken and Mortal Kombat. In my opinion, Guilty Gear X AE is better than those three titles I mentioned and is currently among the top fighting games made. The game’s difficulty could be improved, but overall this is a great game. If you are in need of a GBA fighter, you can’t be too wrong to pick this one up.

Guilty Gear X Advance is a good game for the Game Boy Advance. This game will remain in the players Game Boy for quite some time. This is one game that has its sights set on taking over Capcom’s leadership in creating the best fighting game on the market. Even though this game isn’t perfect, it is getting close to reaching that goal of overtaking the might Street Fighter market. With a little more time, greater character selection, and making the game a little harder, Capcom will have a serious contender on their hands. In the mean time, if you are looking for a good fighting game for your GBA, I suggest trying this game out, as it might be the fighting game you have been looking for.

So in one sense, I'm ill equipped to review a game that has levels of strategy that a masher like me can't begin to understand. On the other hand, the game is accessible enough that I had a chance to defeat a master that I rarely come close to beating on other games. Two totally different, totally enjoyable experiences of the same game from two totally different points of view. Take from that what you will.

Overall, Guilty Gear X is a fun fighting game worth several rounds. While the game is hardly an earth-shattering entry in the 2D genre, it?s great to see that games of this type will flourish on Sony?s next-gen system.

All in all, Guilty Gear X does its job quite well--it's a graphically remarkable yet otherwise conventional 2D fighting game that plays well, sounds good, and offers a memorable lineup of cool characters with countless crazy moves. If you like a little more flair in your fighting games, and especially if you like the game's anime graphics style, you'll find that Guilty Gear X plays just as good as it looks.

DreamcastAll Game Guide
Guilty Gear X is an enjoyable romp, just not an overly brilliant one. It does little wrong, but by the same token, it doesn't do anything spectacular either. What it does do, however, is hopefully open the door for more high-resolution 2D fighters, a trend certainly worth following. It may not be quite in the same class as those titles from the highly respected SNK and Capcom, but it proves itself a worthy distraction for fans of the genre.

Guilty Gear X Advance Edition is not the best fighting game you can get on the GBA, but it's also not the worst. It almost sits right in the middle. It looks decent, sounds OK, and plays almost as well as any other good fighter on the GBA. If you've already got Street Fighter II and KOF EX, and you're still looking for something more, Guilty Gear should be next on your list.

GGX's animation is quite good, although the torrid pace does make it hard to tell what's happening at times. The soundtrack is completely high-energy, but the constant guitar squealing gets monotonous! Still, Guilty Gear X is a good-looking title and a real treat for 2D fighter and anime fans alike.

PlayStation 2Game Informer Magazine
Not only does Guilty Gear X not push the 2D fighter envelope, it doesn't even give it the slightest nudge. Hell, it doesn't even throw the envelope a nasty glare. It's okay due to its reliance on proven genre standards, but there are many better prospects in the PlayStation 2 field. Since it's especially weak in the singles game, consider purchasing Guilty Gear X only if you and a friend want to go at it.

As you may have heard, this game was created for the Arcade, PS2, and DreamCast, and was consequently converted to the PC. This, in turn, caused some major drawbacks. For example, the keyboard cannot replace the easy-to-use controllers on the next-generation consoles (these controllers were specifically designed to withstand the heat of these kick'n'bash games). Moreover, you can think of this game as an excellent way of ruining your keyboard - just play it for a few minutes and as a result watch those keys fall off. And the graphics, well, suffice it to say they leave much to be desired and some of the polys are too... Wait a minute. Polys? Who am I kidding? The in-game visuals plonk this game straight to the dinosaur age, and I'm talking about polys?! I should be discussing whether crappy games make good paperweights, or should they be used as coasters.

The fantasy backgrounds are completely static and have a washed-out look. The music is totally unappealing, and the distorted voice samples sound like static. But the worst aspect is the game's low difficulty, which is surprising considering how tough the PS2 versions are. The normal skill level is laughably easy, and even at "very hard" I could dispatch my opponents easily with minimal technique required. Upon winning the arcade mode, you view a text ending, and are then forced to sit through boring credits - some reward! Guilty Gear Advance does save high scores, and you can link up with a friend, but what's the point, really?
