Hardline

Hardline really is the embodiment of an interactive Hollywood action film, complete with all the trappings. Uh huh, the game seriously earns its 'M' rating for "strong sexual content." (Do we have to spell it out for you?) Yeah, it may be shameless, and it may be a little gratuitous, but that's Hollywood fer ya, folks. So grab that bag of popcorn, close the blinds all the way, crank up the surround sound, and go play a movie.

Sehr gute Videos, atemberaubende Special Effects und eine packende Story sind gemeinhin das Rezept für einen halbwegs erfolgreichen Spielfilm. Wo anderere Hersteller mit Textfenstern oder zu langsamen Reaktionen auf Spielereingaben jeglichen Spielspaß vernichtet haben, hat Virgin ein unauffälliges und schnelles Interface implementiert. Einer der wenigen Interaktiven Spielfilme, wo man sich wirklich als Hauptdarsteller fühlen kann.

Hardline deserves some credit for fusing arcade-style mayhem with an interactive movie which, though not terribly original, lends more depth to the gaming experience and offers the player some motivation to keep shooting. If you are a fan of fast-paced arcade action, the game will no doubt be your cup of tea (or 'cauldron of blood' rather), especially after a stressful day at work or school, when you need a quick release of pent-up aggression. But despite the frenzied action and interactive movie trappings, it is still very much a restrictive rail shooter, with none of the freedom of movement and decision-making available in any decent first-person 3D action game.

Hardline is nicely balanced between being a rail shooter action game and an adventure game. The many carnage scenes are broken up with adventure game sequences, where you must locate certain items necessary for your quest. Hardline has a good solid plot that is mysterious and engaging. If you are squeamish, you may want to avoid this game, but if you don't mind the "mature" nature of this type of game and if rail shooters are your thing, there's a good chance you'll enjoy Hardline.

Hardline is de ideale cd-rom om leken op het gebied van games en pc's te verbazen. De doorgewinterde gamer weze echter gewaarschuwd: handjes af van deze miskleun!

Durchaus geeignet, um sich nach Feierabend eine halbe Stunde abzureagieren. Spielerisch limitiert, ordentlich inszeniert.

Spelidén är väl inte så usel, trots att den inte är ny, men jag kan inte vara lika snäll vad det gäller spelglädjen - för det finns ingen att orda om. Dessutom går det inte så litet hackigt, trots en P90 med 32 meg minne, så jag rekommenderar att du köper en kraftigare burk eller varför helt enkelt inte bara strunta i att köpa Hardline?

Einmal abgesehen davon, daß Filme zum Mitspielen nicht jedermanns Sache sind (schon gar nicht, wenn beim Ballern Menschen das Ziel sind), muß eines eingeräumt werden: Die Videos sind technisch professionell gemacht. Sogar die oftmals in diesem Genre bemängelten schauspielerischen Leistungen können sich hier durchaus sehen lassen. Man nimmt den Darstellern die verkörperten Rollen ab. Die Story ist recht spannend und verbindet diese Aneinanderreihung von Reaktionstest ganz manierlich. Nur das Spiel selbst ist halt ein wenig kurz gekommen.

Considering the main entertainment in a game should not be getting overtly annoyed, or looking for (and finding) the strings holding up levitating objects, it's hard to imagine what the designers were drinking when they formulated Hardline. And, in the end, it's probably better we don't find out. Suffice it to say, if this game provides entertainment in any conventional way, it's more than likely unintentional (connoisseurs of bad dialogue, dig in!).
