This game definitely personifies the magnificence of the sport, but it is lacking because it's not as advanced as I had hoped it would be. This game is a definite must-have for all of the Harry Potter fans out there. For those that are looking for another sport game to pick up, I would suggest trying this out first or waiting for the next entry in the EA sports line. In the meantime, enjoy and conquer the world of Quidditch World Cup.`

While Quiddich probably wouldn’t be your definition of a sports title, EA did a good job in giving a sporty feel to a magical fiction game from a good story. There is magic involved, but they didn’t overdue it, and even when getting beaten the game remains a lot of fun to play. Harry Potter fans should really enjoy it, and some sports gamers particular to hockey or soccer should at least check it out as a rental and see if they feel it’s worth getting into.

Not only are the rules of Quidditch faithfully transposed but so are the characters and settings, complete with commentary. However, it does lose out when you consider the lack of any kind of storyline, which after all is what Harry Potter is really all about - a gripping yarn. That said, for gamers not really into things witchy and wizardlike this still title has plenty to offer, particularly if it is viewed as an original and new kind of sports title. The good introduction and training combined with the fast pace and charming graphics make this a very well crafted game and it should ultimately appeal to most gamers.

HP:QWC is a rock solid game although the spot itself is a bit awckward in comparison to what we here on earth tend to play :D. The game is definitely a must-have for the fans as it shows an aspect of the Harry Potter world which has been neglected a bit in the previous games but now has been extremely nicely worked out, but also the normal bloke in the street will definitely it. Admit it: who didn't like playing a wizard in his youngest days, pretending to be able to fly on a broomstick to do some crazy stuff ?

While the franchise has to be kept kid-friendly and approachable, it would be great to see EA add some sports simulation style elements (like, say, defense) to any sequels, but Quidditch World Cup is a valiant and quite enjoyable first effort nonetheless. Wären einige kleinere Mankos noch behoben worden, hätte sich EA zumindest für Präsentation, Grafik und Sound einen Hit redlich verdient. Umwerfend in Szene gesetzte Specialmoves lassen einen sogar kurzzeitig die starken Mängel im Gameplay vergessen. Aber was nützt es mir, wenn ich die tollen gegnerischen Spezialangriffe bestaunen darf, ihnen dabei aber vollkommen hilflos ausgeliefert bin?! Kein Ausweichen, kein Blocken – gar nichts ist mehr möglich. Einem bleibt nichts anderes übrig, als dem munteren Treiben auf dem Schirm tatenlos zuzusehen und die grandiose Optik zu genießen. Mir persönlich reicht das bei weitem nicht aus!

Overall, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup appears at the midpoint between the release of the fifth book in June 2003 and the scheduled release of the third movie in June 2004. This is probably the best Harry Potter game ever made, but that’s an honor akin to “Best Simpsons Game”. Casual fans will be better off renting this title and even die-hard fans might want to “try before they buy” to avoid potential disappointment.. Over a year ago, I said in my review of Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets that I was not giving up on the franchise. I’m sure that the Prisoner of Azkaban game is already in development and I’d like to re-issue my challenge to EA to produce a really good Harry Potter game for once. Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is a nice step towards that lofty goal, but it still leaves too much to be desired.

For all EA’s shortcomings, it makes a pleasant change to see a genuinely different title like this appear from their studios and the fact that it plays well is a nice little bonus, too. It’s not going to set the gaming world on fire, but QWC certainly provides a diverting little stopgap before the next batch of Potter films reaches these shores.

All that being said, there is a degree of fun to be had, especially for the younger demographic since the basic gameplay elements are pretty simple and intuitive. Not a must-have for Potter fans, but you may want to rent it to make sure.

Overall, Quidditch World Cup is a well-presented game with excellent visuals and a nice translation of the quidditch game into a video game format. A large tutorial section makes it easy to learn the game itself, and while it has an exciting feel to it, the controls and some gameplay elements feel like they could have been developed further in order to provide a more balanced experience. In fact, if the camera and player controls in the single player game were just the same as the two-player mode, then we'd be singing something different here.

Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup is a title that is good enough to be in the collections of children or Potterheads, but doesn’t satisfy in enough areas to be a smart buy for the rest of us. If the game was a little more difficult and the players weren’t limited to one controllable plane, then I would say take a serious look at this one. It is understandable that game was made simple in order to make it more user-friendly for the young ones but this severely limits the audience which can enjoy this game thoroughly. If you are looking for something a little different, but still in the sports realm, or have been wondering what all the Potter hoopla is about then give Quidditch a rent. It also has its merits to all audiences in the visual department with gameplay aside. I would, however, recommend steering fully clear of this title if you haven’t seen the movie and are looking for a challenging and engaging gameplay experience.

Par rapport aux versions consoles, on peut noter une maniabilité un peu moins agréable, d'où la différence de note générale. A part ça, le titre reste le même, à savoir un jeu un peu confus, pas toujours très intéressant et qui ne devrait finalement plaire qu'aux mordus des bouquins. Mieux vaut quand même attendre la sortie du cinquième tome plutôt que de se jeter sur le moindre produit Harry Potter survenu.

Si on vous parle de Cognards, du Vif d’Or et de Viktor Krum, deux réactions sont possibles. La première : vous reconnaissez là l’univers envoûtant du jeune sorcier Harry Potter, et plus particulièrement le sport favori des sorciers, le Quidditch. La seconde : vous vivez dans une grotte depuis une dizaine d’années. Cela dit, la vie d’ermite n’est pas forcément aussi dénuée d’intérêt qu’on peut le penser de prime abord, c’est pourquoi un bref rappel des règles du Quidditch n’est pas forcément de trop…

Die Regeln sind auch für Muggel (= Nichtmagier) schnell erklärt. Jedes Team hat sieben besenberittene Spieler: Die drei Jäger versuchen den großen, schweren Quaffel (eine Art Ball) am Hüter vorbei in die drei gegnerischen Tore zu werfen - ein Tor gibt zehn Punkte. Dabei halten zwei Treiber die wild attackierenden Klatscher (Kugeln) fern. Gespielt wird, bis der Sucher den walnussgroßen, geflügelten Goldenen Schnatz gefangen hat.

I really wanted to like this game, and it would be a lie to say that I didn't at all. I enjoyed it more than I enjoy most sports games (like that's saying much), but I feel that the gameplay itself needs to be altered before this can really be considered a fun game. Two-player mode isn't too shabby, but you'll have difficulties finding somebody else who knows how the game works and can offer you some fair competition; you can't just pick up a controller and play well from the get-go. My guess is that EA will release another one of these at the end of this year, or next year at the latest, so my advice is to just wait until then to satiate your Quidditch needs. Quidditch World Cup certainly has the potential to be a fun game, but it's current iteration needs some serious improvement.
