Heroes IV est une grande réussite. Non seulement le charme agit comme par le passé, mais il nous offre un gameplay retravaillé en profondeur. Bref, c'est reparti pour des nuits d'éclate. C'est ça, la magie des Heroes.

No, this is hardly the end. This is but a start of the madness. Now rush off to get your copy of the Heroes, and see you in a MP game! Oh, and two more things. First: the music. I didn't write too much about it as I want you to experience it first hand, and enjoy it all the way from the crystal clear sound of the accordion to the mighty rumble of the waterfall. Second, most of the enemy beasts are female. Now this is quite becoming for sirens and harpies, but genies, nagas and zombies are also women. Is this just a macho trip, or a gay conspiracy? I leave that to you to decide, but it's just the way things are in Heroes of Might & Magic 4.

Heroes of Might & Magic IV är en mycket välkommen medlem till vår älskade Heroes-familj, och trots ett mindre antal småfel har det en så genuin känsla att det är helt omöjligt att lägga ned. Alla som spelat de tidigare spelen i serien måste testa, och alla andra skall både skämmas samt kvickt köpa en kopia och njuta.

The Mac port of the game is spectacular and includes the multiplayer update so we have easily spent more time playing this game than the combined lives of 10 generations of may flies. The best news is that Heroes of Might and Magic IV is every bit as impressive as any of the previous titles in the series.

Para os que já conhecem os jogos da série, o nobo Heroes of Might and Magic IV envolve a construção de um reino próprio e o cumprimento de tarefas dentro de um mundo todo particular de fantasia, populado por personagens cheio de cores, entre humanos e criaturas monstruosas. O enredo é quase imaterial para a experiência, já que cada campanha individual possui sua própria história, apesar de Heroes IV dar continuidade ao último pacote lançado para Heroes of Might and Magic III. O choque entre dois poderosos objetos em uma guerra, a Espada de Gelo e a Lâmina do Armagedão, provocou uma enorme explosão, que destruiu o mundo. Uma parte da população conseguiu escapar da catástrofe através de portais mágicos, indo parar em um mundo inexplorado.

The Heroes of Might and Magic strategy series dates back to 1990 with the series' precursor, King's Bounty. Since then, the series has given rise to three games and several expansion packs over the course of about a decade. But none of that history really seems to matter at this point.

Die Anfix-Zeit bei Heroes beträgt zirka drei Stunden – entweder, Sie werfen in dieser Zeit das Zepter hin, oder Sie sind verloren. Das Ausbauen des Haupthelden macht mir noch mehr Spaß als bei Disciples 2, da er sich viel breiter entwickelt. Obwohl sich relativ schnell eine gewisse Routine einstellt, warten immer wieder Überraschungen auf mich. Kurzum: Das beste Heroes, das es je gab – aber grafisch nicht auf dem neuesten Stand. Kein hochstufiger Rundenstratege sollte an Heroes of Might & Magic 4 vorbeireiten.

En somme les fans de la série ne devraient pas être déçus par ce quatrième opus qui tout en restant dans la droite lignée des Heroes Of Might And Magic apportes quelques innovations plutôt intéressantes. Un nouveau volet qui en clair relance très nettement l'intérêt de la référence qu'est HMM en matière de stratégie au tour par tour. « Hé !!! Tu te barre sans nous parler du multijoueur ! » me direz-vous ? Et vous n'aurez pas tort mais malheureusement, je ne peux rien vous dire à son sujet. En effet, si l'option est bel et bien présente dans le menu de HMM 4, un simple clic sur son icône vous apprendra qu'elle ne sera disponible que plus tard en téléchargeant la dernière version du jeu à paraître sur le site officiel...

Si vous êtes un fervent amateur des deuxième et troisième épisodes de la série, la sortie de Heroes of Might & Magic IV ne devrait pas vous laisser indifférente. D'abord parce qu'il s'agit là du dernier Heroes of Might & Magic réalisé par les génies de New World Computing, puisque c'est ensuite Nival qui prend le relais. Une conséquence du caractère un peu trop innovant du dernier bébé de leurs confrères de New World ?

Dem Rollenspielbruder Might & Magic 9 haben die Entwickler von New World Computing eine neue Grafikengine spendiert, bleiben im Spielablauf aber ihrer Tradition treu. Auch für den Rundenstrategie-Ableger Heroes of Might & Magic haben sich die Macher nur kleine, aber feine Neuerungen einfallen lassen, die dem vierten Teil der Serie mehr taktische Tiefe verleihen als je zuvor. Nach wie vor erforschen Sie mit einer Hand voll Helden und ihren Armeen ein Fantasy-Reich, jagen nach Artefakten und Rohstoffen, errichten und erobern prachtvolle Festungen und ziehen gegen marodierende Monsterbanden ins Gefecht.

On peut toujours trouver des défauts à Heroes IV, mais il faut voir que les changements qui séparent cette version de la précédente créent un véritable gouffre entre ces deux titres. De ce point de vue là, Heroes IV est bien plus qu'une suite à la série : c'est un nouveau départ. Les amateurs de la série des Heroes seront un peu déboussolés au début, mais ils trouveront assurément leur compte dans ce titre ; les autres auront beaucoup plus de mal à réellement accrocher. Notre plus gros regret va à l'intelligence articielle qui est vraiment en dessous de tout ce que l'on pouvait espérer.

Overall, Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a fine example of a game which combines the best features of turn-based strategy with role-playing to create a fine contribution to the Heroes of Might and Magic series. Even though the performance (especially in battles against the computer) could be a lot better, I can find little else negative to say. If you like strategy games or know someone who does, HoMM4 (and Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete as well) is an excellent game to buy.

Posibilitatea de a elabora strategii este acum mult mai extinsa fata de Heroes 3 iar imbunatatirile aduse fac ca acum sa nu se mai actioneze inutil (vezi posibilitatea de a transfera armate de la un castel la altul cu ajutorul caravanelor).

All in all, though, HoMM4 does continue to deliver its tried and true, addictive gameplay formula. If you're just looking for more HoMM but something a little different than the past games, look no further. If you're new to the series this one is as good a choice as any to get started with. There's nothing inherently awful about this game, after all. HoMM4 may not be very innovative, but it's a fairly solid addition to the series.

In the end, Heroes of Might and Magic IV is a fantastic strategy game held back by a few small – but significant – problems. 3DO has improved the gameplay, tweaked the interface and given the graphics a much-needed facelift. The stability and performance issues, however, turn a great game into good one... one that’s begging for an update or a patch.

Nee, het ziet er allemaal helemaal niet verkeerd uit, maar het grootste probleem van Heroes 4 is dat het bedoeld lijkt voor de hardcore fan die de serie al jaren volgt en met een nostalgisch gevoel geniet van al die nieuwe opties. Een newbie zal bijzonder veel tijd kwijt zijn met het zetten van de eerste stappen.

Heroes of Might and Magic IV is meer van hetzelfde; de beloofde vernieuwingen hebben zich ontpopt als een nieuw laagje verf over dezelfde oude carrosserie.

As I stated earlier, this type of game has an awful lot of competition out there, especially with more recent games. However, it's worth a stab, especially for fans of the genre and at this cheap price, but overall it feels too dated and isn't compelling enough to recommend it to a wider audience.
