Overall, Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the DragonBone Staff is a pretty well- rounded strategy game. The possibilities are almost endless when it comes to the randomized events every time the game is played, and it is just plain old fun. My advice would be to go out and give this game a rental (or click on our rent game link on the right), and see how it is. Fans of the Might and Magic series would be foolish not to pick up this game, as it promises to be a great addition to their PS2 collection.
As long as you know that you're getting a slightly dumbed-down, sped-up version of the PC game, with a few less monsters and less resources to manage -- but you like turn-based battles with Dungeons and Dragons-style monsters -- you will like the PS2 version of Heroes of Might and Magic.

So for whom exactly will Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the DragonBone Staff appeal? If you’re looking for a few days of strategy-lite on your PS2, or can’t miss anything HOMM, this game will likely keep you happy. It does randomize locations (though the basic maps remain the same) at the outset of every game, so if you enjoyed it once, odds are you’ll enjoy another go around. Nostalgia buffs might also enjoy it, as Quest is really no more than a spiffed up version of New World Computing’s old King’s Bounty game; however, if you’re looking for the next HOMM installment, it’s probably best to wait for HOMM IV, which is scheduled for release later this year. All that said, it might also serve as an excellent introduction to basic strategy for the young Napoleon in your family - with controls simpler than many strategy games out there, and an “E” rating from the ESRB, it may be just the ticket.
A fast, fun strategy game that's easy to pick up and play. It's not the greatest looking game of its type on PS2 (compared to the likes of Kessen and Ring of Red), but it's an otherwise solid game. Multiplayer would have sent this game soaring into must-have territory... perhaps in the sequel.

Heroes is definitely an acquired taste, which some will spit out immediately. It won't make much sense for the first few hours, as there's a lot going on. Survive this period, though, and you'll learn the joys of army recruiting, exploration, and status promotion. I won't stake my life that you'll enjoy it, but it definitely gave me some sentimental warmth.
In summary, my advice is this is a renter. Even a close source to me who is a long time devotee to the series seemed a bit uncertain as to whether or not he was impressed with the game. It's an enjoyable and different look to a beloved series... but not a shocking new experience on the PS2.
Overall, Heroes of Might and Magic: Quest for the Dragon Bone Staff has a few surprises and some significant flaws. While die-hard strategy fans and extreme fans of the Heroes series on the PC might get a kick out of this one, it's really a rental at best.

Was King's Bounty good? Yes. Is Heroes of Might and Magic good? No. Not only are people's graphical expectations at a much higher level than they were ten years ago, so are their gameplay expectations. Heroes will fail you in both categories. Anyone that would choose this over games such as Kessen (or the upcoming Kessen II) is suffering either from nostalgia for simpler times or severe brain damage.
PSX Extreme
Anyone who hasn't played any of the Heroes games before might want to rent this one since they won't know what they are missing, but old-school fans should stay far away.
Super Play
Med ett alldeles för simpelt system och utan någon riktig story att backa upp det hela blir Heroes of Might & Magic: Quest for the Dragonbone Staff tyvärr bara ännu ett misslyckat försök att förena datorns värld med konsolernas.
Heroes of Might and Magic sur PS2, c'est 10% du jeu d'origine.
