If some of you, like me, have become familiar with Heroes of Might and Magic through one of the later renditions then the lineage with this first edition will be quite clear. Everything which makes a game “Heroes” is there. Heroes, creatures and spells, towns to control and expand, a world to discover and plenty of monster and opposing armies to fight. All in all HoMM is a game well worth playing even today and if a friend comes over you can have some nostalgic fun with its multiplayer option.

HOMM leidet unter der üblichen Krankheit: der Computer schummelt! Egal wie clever und gewitzt man sich anstellt, der Rechner kennt immer die gegnerische Position und Truppenstärke. Die Suche nach erfolgsversprechenden Taktiken erweist sich deshalb für Einsteiger eher frustrierend. Wer mit Strategiespielen schon Erfahrungen gesammelt hat und die richtigen Taktiken herausgefunden hat, wird für einige Zeit an den Bildschirm gefesselt.

Eigentlich komisch: Viel mehr als in der Gegend herumreisen, Monster verkloppen und Gegenstände einsammeln darf der Might-&-Magic-Stratege nicht tun - und trotzdem hat mein Schlafpensum während der Testphase deutlich gelitten. Die an und für sich völlig simplen Taktikschlachten geraten oftmals zum echten Nervenkitzel - schließlich will man nur ungern seine voll ausgebaute Heimatstadt an den unwürdigen Nachbarn verlieren.

Det är alltid roligt att spela ett lyckat konverteringsspel. Många konverteringar misslyckas tämligen grovt, men Heroes of Might and Magic är inte lyckat, det tillför också något. Aldrig tyckte jag det var så kul att spela spelet till PC som jag tycker till Game Boy Color. Möjligheten att bära med sig spelet kommer här verkligen till sin rätt.

Heroes of Might and Magic känns som en frisk fläkt i dessa multimediatider. Kemiskt fritt från överdådig grafik och jobbiga intron bjuder det på gammal hederlig gaming, med en perfekt mix av strategi och rollspel.
