Ob es nun die realen Videoaufnahmen vor jeder Mission sind, die man so bereits 1999 beim ersten Medal of Honor Teil für die Playstation 1 zu sehen bekam, oder die durch und durch geradlinigen Level, die man bestenfalls noch von einem Spiel aus dem Jahre 2000 erwartet hätte. Alle Spielelemente bringen einen unweigerlich zu der Frage: Warum sollte ich The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific spielen und nicht das thematisch verwandte Medal of Honor Pacific Assault? Und selbst nach langem suchen findet man keine plausible Antwort. So ziemlich alles ist beim vorletzten Medal of Honor-Spiel für den PC besser gemacht worden und kann dazu auch noch mit wesentlich längerer Spielzeit aufwarten. Bedenkt man außerdem noch die Preisdifferenz zwischen den beiden Titeln, sollte die Entscheidung mehr als eindeutig ausfallen. Technisch solider Shooter, ohne Herz und Hirn.

Great exterior, cumbersome interior, The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific is more deserving of its license than most licensed products. The war films and historical information are delivered quickly and efficiently, getting straight to the point as a catalyst for the game. The first-person shooting, however, doesn’t have any historical value. By the end of next year, players might remember the presentation, but they’ll have long forgotten the gameplay content.

I didn't have any luck finding more than two people to play with online, and since some of the modes require at least four people, so I didn't get to try them all out. And I certainly have no desire to check it out again. I might actually find some people online and then end up having to play some portion of this game again.

Battle For The Pacific is a slapdash effort, and when you consider that it can be completed in a single session of play it's just way overpriced. Worse still is the fact that the game just isn’t very good and should be left in history, just like the war that inspired it, with the difference being that the game will have little in the way of historical significance to speak of.

Battle for the Pacific brings zilch to an already overstuffed corner of the market. Don't let the discounted price or the The History Channel branding fool you, the game is a poor attempt at historical immersion.

The History Channel: Battle for the Pacific is just too little and far too late. The WWII genre isn’t exactly short on titles these days nor is the FPS genre. If you plan on releasing a game in either (and especially both) you had better bring your “A” game.

Battle for the Pacific might appeal to the older crowd; you know…the people who watch The History Channel trying to spot themselves in the footage, but any serious gamer needs to leave this one in the trenches.

There are a ton of fine shooters hitting shelves this year that are good enough to go down in history. It would be a shame to waste your money paying full price for this heap, which instead takes history down with it.

Add in frame-rate problems, stiff controls, and sub-par voice acting, and Battle for the Pacific really shouldn't have made it to store shelves. When a game's only achievement is that it's a better World War II shooter than Hour of Victory - and just barely - it's time to pack it up and just go home.

Maybe a part of me just wants to like a bad game. I might just hope that because I have such low expectations for the game that I might actually enjoy it. And that does happen sometimes. It didn't happen here, though. History Channel: Battle for the Pacific is a bad game. You might assume that a company as reputable as the History Channel might take more care to protect their license, but it's clear that they just wanted to make a quick buck. It's a real shame too, because there aren't too many other WWII shooters set in the Pacific Theater. For now, we'll just have to stick with Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault.

La note et le jugement sont sans appel. Rarement on avait été aussi déçu par un jeu, sur PS3 mais aussi sur pratiquement tous les autres supports à notre disposition. Techniquement, ce jeu pouvait faire valoir bien d'autres arguments en se prolongeant un tant soit peu, c'est un euphémisme, et en y mettant autre chose qu'une course effrénée derrière un supérieur mono céphalique. Il n'eut alors pas été le meilleur jeu du monde, mais au moins nous aurait-il amusé. Cela ne fut jamais le cas.

The disappointing fact is, if you want to play a good WW2 FPS, you’ve no end of choice in both the budget and full price sectors, most of them better than this. I can’t even recommend you give Battle for the Pacific a try, because it would be far more enjoyable – and cheaper – to revisit Call of Duty 2 or any other number of superior games. Battle for the Pacific tried to add the documentary footage to provide some value to a bad game but if you want to watch a documentary, you’d be reading reviews for World War 2 documentary DVDs.

Everyone is probably better off battling through Activision's own Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare instead. Considering the quality experience that game provides both with and without an Internet connection, my recommendation is that you check it out and forget about Battle for the Pacific.

Gamers seem to be tiring of the World War II scenario that has become so common to the first-person shooter genre. There are only so many times you can shoot Nazi soldiers before you begin to yearn for something more. Whether that happens to be tentacles or nuclear weapons, most people would argue that a change is in order. At this point, the only effective way to produce a WWII-era title is to approach it from a fresh angle or just do a phenomenal job with the production values. History Channel: Battle for the Pacific, though it makes attempts in each area, falls short in both.

Everyone is probably better off battling through Activision's own Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare instead. Considering the quality experience that game provides both with and without an Internet connection, my recommendation is that you check it out and forget about Battle for the Pacific.

Comme on pouvait s’y attendre, Battle for the pacific est loin de remplir son contrat. Mou, plat, avec des décors qui se ressemblent tous, court et horriblement répétitif, le titre de Cauldron ne parviendra sans doute à plaire qu’à quelques rares amateurs de FPS se déroulant durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Malgré un aspect visuel plutôt réussi et une localisation de l’action inédite sur les consoles de cette génération, le soft ne parvient pas à sortir de son moule bas de gamme…

On notera également la réutilisation à outrance des modèles, textures, bruitages et autres trucs de Payback, comme son fameux moteur qui rame sans raison apparente. Ajoutez une durée de vie qui ne dépasse pas les deux heures, un scénario sans queue ni tête ainsi qu'un mode multijoueur classique au possible et complètement déserté à ce glorieux bilan, et l'on atteindrait presque le niveau zéro de l'amusement pour quiconque a déjà touché à un FPS.

Can you believe this two-hour-long heap costs $50? With gameplay this bad and little value to speak of, this is a history lesson that should stay buried in the past.

On vous conseille d’acheter deux fois le jeu de Ken Levine plutôt que de dépenser le moindre euro dans ce qui est en passe de devenir le plus mauvais FPS de 2008. Qui sait, l’année n’est pas encore terminé et Cauldron est capable de nous sortir quelques chose de bien pire avant les fêtes de fin d’année…

Zusammen mit dem Privatfernsehsender The History Channel schickt Activision einen optisch und akustisch gelungenen Ego-Shooter ins Rennen. Das war's dann aber auch schon auf der Habenseite. Ohne Story-Zusammenhang stolpern Sie auf pazifischen Schlachtfeldern wie Guadalcanal oder lwo Jima meist stur Ihrem Vorgesetzten hinterher, um hirnlose Japaner am laufenden Band zu erschießen. Viel schwieriger ist es jedoch, mit Ihrem Offzier Schritt zu halten. Da es keine Sprintfunktion gibt, kommt es mitunter vor, dass eine Mission nicht weitergeht oder sogar scheitert, weil Sie zu weit weg sind und dadurch Skripts nicht ausgelöst werden - blöd.
