Homefront is an all around unique experience that tries to get a message through that is much deeper than the shooters out there today while making it a fun online game as well. Throughout the campaign you might be forced to make moral decisions but moral decisions are being made all around you in the game and in real life. You will see this battle taking place on US soil, on my Homefront, seeing a White Castle or a NOZ energy drink machine. Homefront really tries to break the mold of mindless killing in shooters and make the player realize that there are consequences for violence. I seriously believe that you will thoroughly enjoy if not be emotionally brought to life with this game and to add to that the online multiplayer is something new, while being balanced. Not a common thing these days, so any fan of shooters must try this game out but even if you are not, this game is something that will move you and you will surely not forget.

THQ has already set personal records for preorders and I have no doubt that Homefront will be their hit this year. Combining so many elements into such a cohesive story, THQ has reminded me why I love gaming. The only fault I could find other than the character models was the relatively short single player campaign; on the hard level I finished the game in less than 7 hours. As much as this is a fault I think it speaks volumes to the quality of the story itself, you see, I wasn't disappointed that the game was short....I was disappointed that I couldn't spend more time in the Homefront universe.

As I've said throughout this review, the game is filled to the brim with genuine heart wrenching moments that are compelling and real. The writing of Milius shines through in every facet of the game. Clearly the guys at Kaos are looking to build a franchise, and if Homefront is any indication of how that franchise begins I'm looking forward to seeing what's next.

Overall, Homefront is a fantastic game. It was one of my most anticipated titles for the first half of 2011 and it didn’t disappoint. Kaos has created a great shooter and, hopefully, a great new franchise. For those who haven’t done so you should also check out the Homefront novel. I finished reading it before playing the game for this review and it helped me understand some of the back story for the title. The novel covers the events before the game and it gives you the origin to the “Voice of Freedom” among other things. If you are a fan of the first person genre than Homefront should be in your collection. It is a breath of fresh air in a genre that tends to recycle the same old thing. In Homefront, home is indeed where the war is. Will you join the resistance?

Homefront is one hell of a new IP that I look forward to playing for a long time to come, though it's not without its faults. In the single player campaign, often you will have to follow someone. The problem sometimes is that they won’t go anywhere, which gets frustrating. There are also times when the game places you in situations where you will undoubtedly get killed the first time. There are lots of blind spots that I didn’t quite feel were necessary. As for multiplayer, there wasn’t much to complain about except for the fact that the game spawns you right behind an unsuspecting enemy more often than it should. It’s an easy kill for you, but something that shouldn’t happen. Additonally, I felt like Homefront could have used a proper cover system. You can crouch and all, but it’s just not the same. The game could have used a better melee system as well. Compared to what you could do in Killzone 3 for instance, it’s pretty vanilla.

Endlich.

I love this game, and despite a few forgivable flaws Homefront is easily one of the most immersive and emotional campaigns that come to mind in my 30 years of gaming. Sure, the campaign is short. Deal with it. With that ending there is either going to be a sequel or some killer DLC. Meanwhile, you can reap the rewards and satisfaction of some of the best multiplayer combat we’ve seen so far in 2011.

Even if you think you’ve gotten your fill from first-person shooters (or you’re saving some space on your shelf for next week’s release of Crysis 2), Homefront deserves a spot in it. This is a gritty, brilliantly made shooter that will shake you up more than once, backed by a powerful story and the kind of action that you’d come to expect from a top-tier entry in the genre. Lock and load, soldier, you’ve got a country to save in THQ"s Homefront.

If you're looking for a military-style shooter that offers something genuinely different; one with a smart narrative pull in an evocative world that borrows from the very best, you'll struggle to go wrong with Homefront. The campaign length is an obvious let-down, as is Kaos's refusal to let the player find their own way - but the quality of the multiplayer is a fine counterweight to both.

A lot of games these days are trying to be the “Call of Duty killer” or the “Halo killer.” Several new names, and some old ones, like Killzone, Resistance and Battlefield have made their marks, but no game till now really tried to do something different. Homefront came along and finally doing something new. While it did succumb to the “rip-off” classification in many aspects, it turned out to be an overall enjoyable, creative and immersive experience. With a brilliantly written narrative that is presented via very well directed scenes, and an immersive, well developed world and setting, with a great multiplayer component to boot, Homefront is a must buy for all FPS fans. The single player campaign disappoints in more ways than one, so here’s hoping THQ do decide to release a second Homefront game, and tackle all these issues with it.

Homefront is definitely worth a look. It has its flaws - there's no question about that. It's nice to be able to appreciate the singleplayer for what it is, but there is definitely room for improvement come Homefront 2 - think longer campagin, more confronting of issues and less excruciating walk speed. The Multiplayer is fine how it is, the way I see it. As long as it maintains a healthy community of active players, it'll be around for a while.

Whilst it could be easy to mark off Homefront as just another shooter, the reality is that although it is, there's enough substance under the hood well worth experiencing. It's a great game, which only lacks vision of its own grandeur which slightly holds it back from being the ultimately amazing game it could be. As it stands, if you're a shooter fan and like big team battles, a decent story, engaging solid gun-play, then Homefront offers it in spades, buries you in it and leaves you to be consumed by its bombast premise. The subject matter could be seen as topical for the sake of it, if you take off the cynical spectacles and just bask in what's thrown at you, you'll find a comprehensive, substantiated game which is well worth the investment.

This game is definitely worth playing in multiplayer. Stick to Team Deathmatch and GC modes though because Skirmish isn’t all that fun compared to both of those. The short single player really does let it down and the lack of replay in that respect may put you off. Homefront really shines online though and that’s where you’ll find a well designed and addictive online experience waiting to draw you in. It may not win over the CoD crowd or those of you (like me) who cut their teeth on Quake mp and Battlefield...it does the job though and really does make working as part of a team a good thing. It innovates in a few places but doesn’t quite make the leap to awesome game sadly.

If you've been looking forward to Homefront since last year's E3 like we have, you'll be glad to know that Kaos has delivered a truly fantastic shooter. If you're burnt out on Call of Duty`s multiplayer, then Homefront may not keep your attention for long. But the campaign should still be experienced by FPS fans. And if you're the kind of gamer that values quality over quantity, then you'll definitely want to check it out.

I have to admit that I had high hopes for Homefront. So the question remains, did it live up to the hype? Overall I would have to say yes, but there is a caveat here; don’t expect it to be the best game ever. The story is solid, and there are some great turning points in the plot, but it just comes to an end too quickly. Luckily Kaos Studios added a great multiplayer component to give this game even more legs. In the end I feel confident that I can recommend this game, as it has many enjoyable moments.

Taken by itself, Homefront's campaign is just plain disappointing. A promising concept ultimately falls flat in the fast-paced, "I don't have time for reading" first-person shooter genre. Once you've accomplished all of the objectives in single-player, the game just "ends". Someone obviously wanted to leave room for a sequel. That person is saved by Homefront's well-designed multiplayer. Despite a seeming lack of modes, Homefront is just as addictive as Call of Duty and as varied as Battlefield. Most importantly, you'll have fun fragging too.

Homefront has certainly made some lofty claims in trying to set itself apart from the watered-down FPS genre. But strip away the storyline and multiplayer, and you find just another mundane shooter. Still, full credit goes to Kaos Studios for delivering a game with such a unique setting that it’s bound to garner interest. Hopefully future DLC will keep us coming back to the battlefield for more.

Homefront is a stellar opening to what will hopefully become a long standing first person shooter franchise. The story is gripping, and you have a reason to fight unlike any other, and combined with an impressive online suite, and you'll see why Homefront is such an impressive debut. It may not be perfect, but we can't wait to see where the franchise goes next.

Overall, Homefront is an extremely strong entry into the over-saturated FPS market. It’s a busy and expensive time to be a FPS gamer. There are a lot of choices out there and most of them are pretty good. As of now, I’d say Homefront deserves a place in your home. It has a fantastic, albeit short single player campaign and the multiplayer is strong enough to keep the disc in your console for quite a while. A worthy purchase indeed, Homefront is everything that was promised, and more.

Homefront is a pretty decent shooter, with an out of the ordinary story that would've been better if it had been developed more thoroughly by at least a couple of more hours. Its mechanics are a bit annoying, with shooting from the hip one being extremely aggravating, but it will please shooters that can't wait until the release of the next Call of Duty or Battlefield game. The multiplayer is interesting, especially when playing with the Battle Commander turned on, but some balancing issues need to be fixed in order to encourage teamwork and playing as another class than the sniper.

Xbox 360Inside Gaming
Homefront’s a bit of a surprise. THQ’s promoting the single player experience here, but that’s not where the real value is. With open battlefields, near-future toys, and fast pacing, Homefront’s multiplayer is the real reason to purchase this game. It may not explode with content, but what it does, it does well.

It's annoying that Homefront couldn't stay away from the temptation of walking down the familiar path of Call of Duty's action drama. For a long while there it felt like a game that aimed for something different and more than just for second place in the genre. And while it doesn't succeed entirely it's still a game fans of the genre should give a try, especially given the multiplayer component that should keep you entertained for months ahead.

Homefront does a whole lot right, delivering powerful imagery and actions on the single-player side, as well as interesting multiplayer alterations, but neither end feels fully realized. But I won't hesitate to recommend Homefront on the overall strength of its stilted campaign, which consistently delivers strong set pieces and alluring atmospheric moments amidst the chaotic combat. And should Kaos expand on this promising start with meaningful and memorable additions in a sequel, Homefront may prove a potent franchise in no time at all.

All told, the online component has all the right ingredients, and it manages to mix them into a mighty tasty meal. Multiplayer rescues the abrupt campaign from a rent-it-and-forget-it fate, although we can’t help but be left a bit disappointed. We love Homefront’s fight-for-America premise — it’s rife with fascinating gameplay possibilities. But in this freshman franchise effort, that potential is never quite realized on the screen.

With some DLC campaign missions hinted at, Homefront could become quite a package, but as it stands the solo campaign will be over in around 5 hours, so if you don’t like online multiplayer shooters and are not the type to go looking for collectibles and achievements, then you might feel a little short-changed.

First let me say that I hope that Kaos continues to develop more Homefront titles the years ahead. Homefront is one of the best new franchises in the past few years and if you have any connection with first person shooters this is a game you should check out. It is not without some minor freshman bumps, but the overall package is one of the more compelling so far in 2011.

Ultimately, Homefront a mixed bag. There’s a lot of good in the single player game, weighed down by older mechanics and events that pull the player out of the excellent story. Meanwhile, the multiplayer is fairly terrific, but would have been served well by going a little further with the Battle Commander. If Homefront’s going to become a franchise, it’s got the potential to become a really good one, and I just hope that it’s not smothered by its ascendant competition before it gets there.

A rich, realistic setting coupled with an interesting and emotional premise help set Homefront apart from its well-established competition. If Kaos Studios can iron out the A.I., improve the depth of the graphics, and offer a bit more in the multiplayer mode, the sequel could be an incredible game. But for now, Homefront is a solid experience, filled with memorable moments and exciting action. There is plenty here to keep just about any FPS-gamer satisfied. If you are ready to peek into a fictional, alternative reality, and play a game with tried and trusted mechanics, you are more than ready to join the resistance.

Homefront’s campaign misfires all revolve around poor pacing and a lack of identity. It’s not as polished or as fast-paced as Call of Duty: Black Ops or Bulletstorm, but it’s also not as tactical or true-to-life as Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. Its multiplayer, where those issues aren’t a problem, is worth a look, even if you have to pony up for $10 when renting it without an online pass code. Battle Points, Battle Commander and the variety of vehicles available on a single map make Homefront addictive. The creatively engineered plot makes me want a redo from the otherwise skippable five-hour campaign mode.

I'll say it right now: if you're considering buying Homefront today, it needs to be for the multiplayer. The campaign should only serve as a small distraction that you might want to goof around in if you're bored and have already gotten your money's worth out of the multiplayer. And if you can get into the online play, you'll find a damn fine game, one that I find far superior to the blitzkrieg-yet-banal pace set by the last couple Call of Duty games' multiplayer modes, and I think you'll find this more rewarding, too. Of course, you could also just pick up Bad Company 2 in the bargain bin, but hey, there are quite a few people on Homefront's servers right now, just begging to be headshotted by some dude's sniper rifle. Might as well be your sniper rifle...

I’ll be honest: I avoided Homefront up till now as much as possible. Not for any particular reason, I just figured I’d see it when I played it. That seems to have worked in my favor, as whatever grand hype and far-reaching expectations the game is supposedly not living up to, I was not aware of them. I just enjoyed it for what it was: an above average shooter. I also find it intriguing that my journalistic brethren so easily throw a new IP like Homefront under the bus after lavishing perfect scores upon the laughably flawed Black Ops and Halo: Reach. With a few tweaks and a fresher paint of coat, Homefront would have been outstanding, far outshining either of those titles. As is, it’s still worth a playthrough, and the quality multiplayer makes an excellent alternative to your current, aging FPS of choice.

All together, Homefront was a huge surprise. Whilst we went into it hopefully, we didn’t quite expect such excellent gameplay in such a detailed world, and we certainly didn’t expect to find revolutionary multiplayer concepts. We know a lot of people have been unsure about jumping into the game for various reasons, such as the mixed reviews and reports of a short campaign, but the latter is untrue and the former puzzles me. The only real problem we found was the aliasing, and we can see past that to see a richly realised game world, tight, smooth gameplay and a multiplayer mode with its own unique innovations that will hopefully catch on elsewhere.

Homefront's story-driven element is a disappointment, but you'll still probably return for a repeat visit. The multiplayer on the other hand is a far more inviting prospect and will likely burn up a fair few hours, days, weeks and even months if you catch the bug. Here's hoping that Homefront 2 gets the greenlight, as there's loads of potential for expansion and the end leaves Homefront wide open for a sequel.

I had fun with the multiplayer game. The maps are well-designed, the action is good, the drones are great, and the game’s dedicated servers make for a lag-free experience. It’s a completely different scenario from the frustrating, buggy, and short single player campaign. So your buy decision will come down to how much time you plan on putting into the multiplayer game. If multiplayer isn’t your thing, you’ll probably want to pass on the game.

I've seen other reviews about Homefront talk about it being two games, and they are correct. The single player game is a let down. It's not terrible, but you know it could have been so much better and that irritates you. Meanwhile the multiplayer is just fun, it works and has a semi-fresh take. Someone at Kaos should introduce the single-player and multiplayer teams to each other and maybe together they can create an all-around good game next time.

In the end, the overall experience offered was enough for me to enjoy my game and feel satisfied by my purchase. For those concerned with the short length of the single-player campaign and those who are not big multiplayer shooter fans, this will likely not be the game for you. The story itself was not so engaging, so much as the way it is presented and the emotions that it evokes are engaging. For me, Homefront was a promising first entry in a franchise that is all but confirmed to have a sequel in the works.

Budgetbak.

THQ have been promoting Homefront everywhere, and there are high hopes that this could become a long-running franchise. As a FPS fan I did enjoy the game overall. The single player campaign, while short, has a great storyline while the multiplayer could keep you playing for quite a while. It's certainly not the best shooter on the market, but those looking for another FPS to keep your itchy trigger fingers occupied may want to check this out.

Homefront is a solid experience even if it doesn’t quite deliver what it promised. As a FPS, it’s competent. As a story device, it does tells a tale, just not quite the way it was billed out. The issues Homefront has are not terrible individually, though some may think twice once they are all lined up side by side. The campaign length will be enough to drop this one into a rental category if multiplayer isn’t your thing; if it is, that’s where the game picks up a lot of steam. The experience Homefront delivers doesn’t excel as it should have, but it does achieve at least a small measure of what was promised. That, in addition to a multiplayer component that is poised to liven up the competitive FPS realm, makes this a game that can supersede some of its flaws. If you are in it primarily for the solo experience, Homefront is an easy rental but nothing more. If you want to give Call of Duty a break and try some of the multiplayer, then Homefront is a purchase you won’t regret.

The only way for a campaign that short to be worth a damn is if it was the best three hours you’ve ever spent with a game in your life, and this is most definitely not that. Homefront succeeds in communicating the despair of a war-torn America, but the characters are lacking in depth and there’s a lot of wasted potential in the storyline here. If you’re looking for a new modern shooter to play online, however, you may be in luck. Homefront may not be as ambitious or well-designed as the likes of Battlefield or Call of Duty, but it offers some fun twists on the formula that will hold your interest for a good while. $50 could be considered a fair enough price if you’re looking for something familiar, yet different, to spend your frag time on.

I can't shake a feeling of disappointment over Homefront. This could have been so much more. With a campaign spanning twice as many hours, better character development and more attention to the graphics, this would have been a real hit. The game's atmosphere and tone are unique and it features an excellent multiplayer component. If you're willing to take a chance every once in a while, this might be the game to do so. The rest should probably wait for the sequel.

Supreme storytelling and a setting that is real and feels weighted is how Homefront separates itself from other modern warfare shooters on the market. With an impressive and addictive Multiplayer suite and some truly emotional moments in the single-player campaign, despite some shortcomings this title deserves to be played by fans of the genre.

Conclusion: Homefront doesn't succeed to completely convince and remains in dubio which immediately explains that varying review scores. The game clearly can't compete with titles like Battlefield or Call of Duty, but it doesn't fail completely either. John Millius may have written an interesting story, but Kaos did too little with it to make Homefront a top game. A missed opportunity that makes Homefront a game that plays just below the top.

I came away from Homefront with mixed emotions. The single player campaign feels very rushed and not entirely there. It’s not that the game is really missing anything, it’s just that it doesn’t really meet the high expectations I had for the title. That said, the multiplayer portion of the game is a fantastic experience and easily on par with any other shooter on the market. I can honestly see myself investing a lot of hours leveling up my character so that I can play with some of the really fun toys in the game.

Homefront succeeds in many areas. It's an improvement in storytelling and multiplayer in every way over their first game, Frontline: Fuel of War, and Homefront shows that in many areas they've clearly listened to the fans of their (underappreciated) first game. It's not the killer single player experience that having someone such as John Milius onboard should have given us, but it's still an enjoyable, if slightly dated, and short, experience. Luckily multiplayer is fun, shows lots of promise and if the current issues can be resolved, it should gather a loyal following online. Let's hope that we start seeing these issues resolved and a steady stream of new content to keep us coming back.

Is Homefront worth buying? Yes I do think it is. From a storyline point of view, it's one of the better shooters that I've played in some time. It's a solid enough game that has its flaws. There have been better on the market in terms of technical prowess and overall well thought out gameplay options, however it's certainly worth experiencing. The online component will increase the value of your buy considerably, giving this game a very considerable amount of replay time, even if just in multiplayer.

Homefront isn’t a bad game and it does a lot of things right. And unlike other designers who are happy with the same ol’, same ‘ol, Kaos Studios strives to reach another level in regards to true human drama. At the start, you’re more than hopeful. When the eyebrow-raising moments roar onto the screen, you’ll be immersed. And even though the campaign ends too soon, you’ll jump into the familiar online multiplayer, frown briefly at the lack of options, and then once again begin to revel in a singular atmosphere. Unfortunately, you’ll always know that nothing else about the game is “singular” and where they reached for the stars, they didn’t get through the first layer of clouds. It’s one of those instances where if you go in with high expectations, you’re bound to be left feeling a tad empty, but if you’re more moderated in your anticipation, you’ll be better off.

Homefront is a game that will please most people. It features plenty of enemies, some pretty awesome locations, and a killer premise. Though the story falls flat about halfway through, and the game needs at least five more chapters to feel complete, you will have lots of fun in the short amount of time that you do have with the single player. And with an above-average multiplayer mode, you'll have no trouble racking up some fairly good supplemental time with Homefront. Just don't expect an epic experience, and you won't be disappointed. And if you don't like multiplayer, do not purchase this game under any circumstances, as $60 for a five-hour campaign is just too much.

While I enjoyed playing Homefront, I have mixed feelings about the entire experience considering the games inconsistencies. Although the storyline by John Milius (Red Dawn, Apocalypse Now) and the setting of the game created an ominous and tense tone that captured the desperation of a former superpower now struggling for its freedom, the single player campaign feels dismally short when considering the backing of such a rich storyline. Also, it seems almost tragic to go through so much effort to make a game with a decent plot and action that intensifies at a good steady pace and wrap it all up in a less than spectacular bow. In spite of the things I didn’t have much to say about because they were really quite ordinary, I thoroughly enjoyed the multiplayer aspect of this game and I kept going for more.

Complemented by absorbing environments and evocative imagery, Homefront's presentation succeeds in immersing players in its plausible nightmare. Sadly, a weak script, unremarkable gameplay and a short campaign undermine much of the promise in solo play. Thankfully, the war on-line, supported by the battle points and battle commander systems, adds considerable value to the total package. It's a bit light on modes, but if THQ can keep the pipeline flowing with post-launch content, Homefront could potentially draw a few recruits from Call of Duty's front lines.

War isn't pretty and this horrifying tale of war on American soil makes for a heartfelt adventure. While the core gameplay feels a little “behind the times,” the setting and narrative keeps things fresh. Downsides, sure, Homefront has a few, mainly the short campaign time that runs around 6-7hrs. However, to keep you playing a hefty multiplayer portion has been added. Depending on your love for online mayhem, Homefront will tilt towards a rental or a purchase, and I highly recommend you do one of those. Now let's finish that rebellion.

Overall I recommend Homefront with some caveats- the multiplayer could use some balancing (which they’ve announced with a new patch at the time of this review). The single player was disappointing in that it ended when it did- it was like showing up at a party and not even getting to kick off your shoes before it’s over. John Milius and the talented folks at KAOS could have brought more and delivered a complete package. Their table has three sturdy legs – a fantastic story, a great combat engine, and a capable multiplayer engine. The one leg that has been forgotten in all of this is the overall user experience.

I was looking forward to Homefront. I’d like to compare it to Out For Justice. You enjoy it at the time, but looking back on it, there is a lot that should have been better.

It is worth a look though, provided you can overcome the shortcomings elsewhere and so long as you prescribe to the notion that FPS games are driven entirely by their online abilities. But while fun in places, there’s that nagging sense of an opportunity missed. A more substantial and free-form single player with updated graphics could have propelled Homfront to the front of the class, in it’s current form it’s a shy nerd sitting at the back, still capable of great things, but never truly inspiring those around it.

Homefront puts the player in situations most people won’t have experienced in a game before, it shows you things you can’t unsee and is graphic in its delivery of the enemy brutality. You will feel the restistance’s struggle and you will care. The shooter mechanics feel excellent and the story is one worth hearing. The Homefront multiplayer is a fine alternative to the other shooters out there, sitting comfortably somewhere between Call of Duty and Battlefield respectively, whilst retaining enough of a similarity that you won’t feel put off by ground breaking new mechanics. Is this a shocking glimpse of the future? Probably not, but Homefront has created a rich world that numerous stories could be told within and, as such, is a worthy addition to anyone’s collection, just don’t expect to still be playing it in 6 months time.

At first glance, Homefront is a great new game with a brilliant speculative fiction back-story. After several hours, however, you realize it's actually just half of a great game. A four hour campaign, no split-screen, and only two multiplayer modes make Homefront literally half of other AAA FPS games that it's trying to compete with. What's there is brilliant, Kaos and THQ just forgot to give us a game worthy of $60.

Homefront is a game that will live or die based on its online component. For $60, if you are investing solely for the single-player campaign, you are truly wasting your money. The multiplayer has the potential to be something amazing with a few tweaks and a better selection of maps, currently there just aren’t enough. If you are looking for something to take your mind away from “that other big shooter,” then this is a refreshing change of pace. Just keep in mind that it isn’t going to set the world on fire with its innovation.

If you're contemplating Homefront as an inclusive package, forget it. Consider it to be a better-than-expected multiplayer distraction at best, and wait for E3 in June to see if we get an apology for the campaign and an explanation as to how the sequel will be better.

Homefront is really a multiplayer affair; if you aren't into online play, then this is, at best, a bargain bin purchase. However, if you don't have a problem mixing it up with strangers from around the globe, then you're in for a treat. At the moment, though, the game is at a delicate stage where it's in danger of losing its momentum due to balance issues and cheating. Going by in-game chatter, many players don't feel as if there's any immediate assistance forthcoming, which is especially disheartening when there's hacking involved. But there are a lot of great gamers out there, and once you find a good server, you're bound to be hooked.

With its interesting premise, evocative opening sequence, and clever variation on multiplayer, Homefront has a strong foundation. It’s a shame that technical limitations and a derivative single-player campaign keep the game from realizing its potential.

'Kaos' may have been trying to spread their wings a bit, but the overall story in the campaign may have clipped their wings, more so with an abrupt ending. As interesting and deep as the SP world and MP gameplay can be, it's a tad outclassed by the rest.

After playing Homefront I am surprised so much of its advertising focuses on the singleplayer, considering it is its multiplayer that actually stands out as a possible reason to purchase the game. As I said at the start, I feel bad for Kaos Studios because I think the outcome of Homefront was influenced by possible combination of either a lack of time, budget or talent. You can see the stars the developers were reaching for but the reality is they fell short. Perhaps a sequel can improve on the foundation that has been built but right now, Homefront fails to stand with the FPS giants it is trying to conquer.

Overall it’s a shame as Homefront was one of my most highly anticipated titles after seeing it at E3 last year. It’s not a terrible game, but it’s agonisingly close to being SO much more. Maybe Homefront 2 will fix up all the bugs and reward players a bit more, rather than rely on a well-respected author’s penmanship. Worth checking out if you always wanted to be a Wolverine, like Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen though.

Homefront's content to be a little uneven, with a lackluster single-player campaign and stupendously fun multiplayer, but I certainly think it's worth trying out. If you're strictly interested in what the single-player game has to offer, then you're better off renting this. It's short, not particularly outstanding, and doesn't deliver on its premise very well. If you're willing to delve into the multiplayer segment, you'll have a lot of fun with Homefront.

The diverse mechanics that combine to make Homefront's multiplayer what it is may be familiar to genre veterans, but they are well integrated and achieve a nice balance. Matches in Homefront don't feel quite like matches in other games, and there's enough depth here to fuel plenty of hours of combat. Yet, the best part of Homefront is the thoughtful and thorough vision of the future laid out by the campaign. It's rare to have a shooter pay this much attention to its setting, and the results are some remarkably memorable moments that are often nicely emphasized by the soundtrack. It squanders a lot of potential for greatness, but Homefront's campaign still fuels much of the game's appeal, helping to distinguish it among a crowded field of competitors.

All in all it's pretty well-trodden stuff, albeit with a couple of minor twists on established ideas. Is it fun to play? Well, we've got to say yes really, and it adds a sizable amount of long-term appeal to the game through a considerable levelling-up tree of upgrades and unlocks. The limited range of three modes does stunt the offering a bit, but it's still got legs nonetheless. If you're a hardcore multiplayer FPS gamer who's played Black Ops and Bad Company 2 to death but loves the format of both, then Homefront could be right up your street in all honesty. PC gamers will also be glad to hear that Digital Extremes' handling of the PC port has been exemplary. It offers all the kinds of added features (did we mention it has support for dedicated servers too?) that PC users crave.

Homefront does a good job sticking to its setting and providing a coherent story arc while offering standard gunplay and the occasional booming explosion. Incredibly rough around the edges, wasteful of unique opportunities, and light on content, we quite frankly question the longevity of this title. But you know what? There are worse games you could spend your money on. If you want something different yet familiar whilst you wait for Battlefield 3 or the next COD maps, give this a go. Kaos and THQ may not have found its heavy-hitting FPS with which to stake a claim on the market, but they've created an experience that's at least tried to create an identity for itself. Every franchise deserves a second chance, so we say bring on the sequel.

Homefront’s campaign tells a good story, but that’s about the only thing it does exceptionally well. The action is fun, but nothing special, and it sometimes feels so rigidly scripted that it’s almost stifling. Meanwhile, the radically different multiplayer stands out as a much better game, with chaotic, drone-and-vehicle-filled action that’s just fun an involving enough to make Homefront worth picking up.

I liked Homefront a lot, and yet I acknowledge that the aspects of the game I like the most aren’t the most important in determining whether the game is great or not. Homefront is certainly one of the most unique shooters I’ve ever played, driven by an ingenious and surprisingly well-fleshed out plot and a dark and dreary, realistic setting. But it also controls and feels like a typical shooter, looks like a game that’s several years old, and most importantly, has an inexcusably brief campaign. Multiplayer is Homefront’s redeeming quality, and those gamers out there who are like me and swoon for alternate/future history settings should certainly look into it. However, if what you’re seeking is an upper-echelon shooter, keep looking, because Homefront isn’t what you’re searching for.

There's enough material within Homefront's concept for it to spiral into something more interesting, and with plenty of talk about a sequel it's clear that's what THQ and Kaos is looking for, but this first crack of the whip falls far short of the competition. THQ obviously has a lot of faith in the game, however, and boss Danny Bilson has aggressively promoted Homefront in the run-up to its launch, repeatedly stating how the publisher is now in a three-horse race with Activision and EA for supremacy of the coveted FPS genre. Homefront has enough potential as a franchise for his statement to ring true, but I certainly know which horse is currently finishing third.

Overall I was left in a pretty confused state by Homefront. The campaign mode struggles through its paces, but multiplayer shines. Certain visual and audio aspects of the game are amazing, but the glaring untouched parts and bugs often took me out of the experience all together. If you spend a majority of your time online, Homefront is an easy entry into the current lineup of top tier shooters, but if a well-rounded package is essential for you to lay down some cash I would check out a rental copy to make sure it's what you're looking for.

PlayStation 3Game Freaks 365
Multi-player alone can’t save this title. You should know that THQ requires you to enter a one-time use code for multi-player that renders the game useless to anyone that would buy it used. This greatly reduces the resale value of the game and makes it impossible for me to recommend as a rental. Homefront fails on too many levels to be a compelling single-player experience. Maybe if the developers had another six months to fix the game’s problems it might have been a more acceptable product. It’s hard to say, but you have to live with what you’ve got. Homefront just does not live up to my expectations of a next-generation product.

Xbox 360The A.V. Club
After you’ve been knocked unconscious for the sixth time during one of the frequent cutscenes, it might be a good opportunity to switch to the superior multiplayer mode, which is made appealingly madcap by the sheer number of tanks, jeeps, UAV drones, and Hellfire airstrikes at your disposal. Well-executed or not, however, the multiplayer can’t capitalize on the game’s big draw, and when it’s yoked to a single-player mode that delivers the same old goods in smaller portions, Homefront comes off as the K-ration of first-person shooters: Satisfying in a pinch, but why would you eat it if there’s anything else around?

All in all, Homefront is a decent shooter but with a short play through time and limited online multiplayer, not to mention no offline multiplayer, it just doesn't seem worth full the retail value.

I know I've sounded mostly negative regarding Homefront's single-player game, but it's only because this type of game, and the style they're going for, has been done better by too many other games. Kaos Studios has made a competent shooter to accompany an engrossing story, one I'm more than willing to finish (assuming a sequel will be made). Multiplayer is where the game's real value lies, and it's certainly more than competent. There's a polish to the online mode that speaks to the developer's true talent. The game is familiar enough that shooter fans can jump right in without having to learn a whole new set of controls or game mechanics, but different enough (with the inclusion of the vehicles and other tools) that Homefront feels different from other games in the genre. If this is the beginning of a franchise, then it's a good start.

I know the overall score doesn’t add up to an average on all the other facets, but because of the cheap, on-rails, four hour single player campaign I am completely dissatisfied with Homefront and if you are looking for a strong single player game, this is certainly not it right now. They should offer up some free DLC to expand the single player or else they are just stealing money from gamers. If this had been 7-9 hours of single player, it might have gotten a Silver. 10 hours would have been a gold award.

No, this game is not like Half-Life 2. It doesn’t even approach Metro 2033. There’s enough potential in Homefront’s story and presentation to make me interested in a sequel, but the Modern Warfare in this game far outweighs anything compelling or original.

Depending on the type of gamer you are when it comes to this genre, Homefront will either be a game that had potential or a game in desperate need of a fast fix. For the fan of single-player games, there was a fascinating story to be had, but it's marred by its short length and pedestrian AI. The linearity also doesn't means that there's little replay value for single-player fans. For the multiplayer fan, all of the modes sound fun, but the lack of stability makes it difficult to enjoy. The difficulty in finding opponents on the system also makes it feel like the interest died before it even had a chance to get started. It's an easy game to recommend for a rental since the story is too interesting to pass up, but for those who were interested in buying it, wait to see if there is still a community after the title has been patched.

Homefront is a probably best described as ‘competent’. While its attempts to tell its story in a new way fall flat, the gameplay (despite its predictability) is passable to the extent that it’ll satisfy those still hungering for more of the Call of Duty formula. Just how long these clones can survive is anyone’s guess but, given the fact that Homefront is THQ’s most pre-ordered game of all time, it seems as though they’re going to be around for a while yet.

Call of Duty casts a long, cold shadow over Homefront and Kaos Studios appear to have quailed in fear at its colossal stature. Aside from a few brave attempts to establish a more somber atmosphere and to bring home the consequences of violence (to mixed effect), the campaign is a mostly unambitious piece of me-too shooter gaming that is unlikely to serve as anything but a light snack until something more interesting comes along. While the multiplayer mode is a much more enticing proposition, the fact still remains that Homefront has entered the most competitive battlefield in the gaming marketplace and finds itself sadly underarmed compared to its opponents. There’s just enough here to make it worthwhile, but only just. If Homefront is to stick around and develop as a series, it’s going to have to work a lot harder than this in future.

Homefront is the hot-pocket of FPS’s. It does what it supposed to do. It satisfies you but fills you with a slight feeling of shame and disappointment. When pizza’s not an option though, sometimes a hot pocket will do.

There isn't enough game in Homefront The Game to contain Homefront The Multimedia Concept. It would work great as a film, and works just fine as a game-based counter-culture argument against the complacency of modern Americans. As a game, however, it just doesn't cut it.

If you're a keen online player of games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, Homefront is well worth checking out. And, while its single-player element is pretty lacklustre, one hopes it will make enough of a sales impact for THQ to commission future iterations.

The world Kaos has created is ripe with possibility, a brutal stage set up for chilling, affecting tales of resistance in the face of oppression. If only Kaos had more faith, more belief, in what they could perform in this theatre of war, we could have been looking at something special. Instead, Homefront is a fun, well-constructed shooter, but one that remains in the shadow of its competition.

Battle: Los Angeles.

Overall, multiplayer is unsightly, severely limited, and largely forgettable. Meanwhile, the Homefront story is largely entertaining. I genuinely enjoyed striking out with my ragtag cabal and clawing our way to the rebel rendezvous point -- like this game's version of Mospeada's Reflex Point -- where we would fight for the Golden Gate Bridge and for freedom. And so Homefront is still worth at least a rental for fans of the genre, for the opportunity to blaze through an FPS campaign experience with far less polish and far more heart than the usual fare.

This isn't necessarily a downright disaster of a game, but you sure as hell have played it before. Anyway, brave effort, Kaos. You still need to get your priorities straight though. This shooter has potential, but it needs to step away from worn-out gameplay formulas or it may be forgotten very quickly. Mind you, despite of what we wrote here and what generally people might think of Homefront, the fact remains that the game already sold over 1 million copies, so it's more than certain Kaos and THQ will deliver a sequel soon. Let's hope that when they do, they'll at least be decent enough to treat us to a single-player campaign that's longer than four hours.

A half-baked campaign and a solid multiplayer component does not make for good value. Sure, good ideas frequent the story mode but its potential is squandered by restrictive level design and a policy to play it safe. Having Korean/American Hopper on your side could have made for interesting flare-ups, but he remains a mostly peripheral figure throughout the story. Visually, the game makes poor use of the Unreal 3 engine and though a good orchestral score keeps you engrossed, the music alone fails to lift the game’s overall presentation. Even enjoyable multi-play is mitigated by the reality that many gamers will likely migrate back to more hallowed ground. Thus, Homefront is a pleasant diversion at best. At worst, it’s a sub-par action game riddled with flaws and design missteps. Perhaps an option for pressing “A” and skipping the entire campaign would have been better advised.

Whether or not you decide to pick up Homefront should rely entirely on how much you want to play its multiplayer. It's not quite exciting or remarkable enough to trump the current giants of online dude-shooting, but it's a solidly crafted mode made comparatively impressive by just how tremendously mediocre the game's single-player campaign proves to be. Kaos obviously had ideas for this game, yet seemingly couldn't bring any of those ideas to total fruition. The end result is a brief, brittle campaign bereft of impactful storytelling or creatively designed action, one that ends not with a bang, but with the build-up to a bang, followed by a title card.

Homefront floats in the limbo between "not bad" and "pretty good", and is hamstrung by a single-player element that feels like a half-hearted obligation. What's most disappointing is that Homefront wanted so much to join COD and Battlefield at the top of the genre, but has ended up as merely a weekend timewaster for players waiting for the next shooter fix.

Xbox 360Video Game Talk
There's a vast barrage of black marks against Homefront's single player campaign, the most egregious being the 4 to 5 hour length over the seven chapters, sloppy game mechanics and a narrative that builds to a pathetic whimper. The most disappointing part of this mess is that it starts off with such promise. The opening back story is to be commended and could have turned into something magical, but it all falls apart within the first 20 minutes of the game. Frankly, it's debatable if the campaign is worth the cost of a rental, much less the full MSRP. On the other side of the coin, the multiplayer has enough great qualities for you to consider purchasing Homefront. In the end, you have to weigh how much value the multiplayer is going to be for you. If you love alternate reality shooters, I would say try renting the title before looking for a cheap used copy (assuming you love the team based multiplayer).

Homefront is definitely a game divided. The single-player game is entertaining in bursts, but far from great. Short and full of cliché and dogged linear design, it’s mostly fun while it lasts, but not at all noteworthy. For multiplayer fans, however, Homefront offers a great alternative to Black Ops and Killzone 3, with a surprisingly polished online experience.

The real tragedy of Homefront is that it’s not a terrible game. While my score may suggest otherwise, the campaign really should be played for the core things it does right and the multiplayer has enough potential to reward patient players. Unfortunately, there are too many glaring flaws with the game -- both technical and in terms of design -- that drag it back from the heights that it was clearly aiming for.

For a game that promised the world I was disappointed. What happened to the Homefront I saw prior to its launch? What about that awesome campaign that was being talked about over the Internet and in Hollywood? Homefront had this entire buzz around it and it failed. The campaign is short and the overall gaming experience does not deliver. There is no way in hell I would ever recommend this game at full cost. I think at best Homefront could have been a download game, nothing something consumers are tricked into buying. Pass on what hopefully is the final Homefront.

When it comes to the current first person experience it seems everything centres on the online mode and the story option is relegated to the status of an inconvenience. Gamestyle knows gamers that don’t even try the story mode, instead jumping headfirst into the online arena. THQ’s Homefront is ideally pitched towards such a user.

In a game that’s so focused on a story, having a decent multiplayer offering isn’t enough. Every aspect of the single-player campaign is poorly executed and designed. And when you finally push through it, the ending leaves far too much open to feel any sense of closure — you can tell that a sequel was always planned from the get go. Bad news Kaos and THQ, if this is what you give us, we don’t want anymore.

There's nothing terribly wrong with Homefront. Well, nothing that isn't wrong with the average me-too shooter crassly built to grab a slice of the Call of Duty pie. But those shooters weren't made by the talented mod-makers who went on to form Kaos Studios and make the sadly underrated Frontlines. That game was a fantastic all-around package, with a surprisingly open and replayable single player campaign, and a surprisingly unique and ambitious multiplayer game. So what happened that their latest effort went so wrong? Why did Kaos Studios decide to take all the cool stuff they did in their last game and chuck it out the window in favor of imitating Half-Life and Call of Duty without any appreciation for the writing and pacing that made those games great? Who knows? It doesn't really matter.

Unfortunately, even with some quiet strengths acting as a crutch to Homefront’s cripplingly average whole, we still find ourselves disappointed with THQ’s answer to Call of Duty – which is clearly the purpose of Homefront. It’s dreadfully average and far too quickly finished, providing nothing more than the most basic type of fun on the first run-through and little incentive to revisit. Not because it’s broken; just because it's boring.

If you’re looking for the total package, Homefront doesn’t even come close. Gamers wanting a fulfilling story-driven single-player campaign should take the next bus to Playing Half-Life 2 Again Town. But fans of competitive multiplayer should at least give Kaos’ latest a look, even if it’s unlikely to replace their shooter of choice.

Homefront is an ambitious title with a solid idea, but lacked the courage to distance itself from the (media established) king of First Person Shooters. Had Kaos Studios instead focused on telling its tale of an oppressed America, focusing on aesthetics and solitude as seen in titles like Metro 2033 (a solid, often overlooked game ironically from the same publisher), it may have earned a place among the overstuffed FPS market. Instead, it is doomed to fall into obscurity while Activision’s cash cow continues to keep its dominance in history.

I really don't want to trash Homefront. Whenever a genuinely bad game comes around, the natural impulse for many writers is unchain their inner critic -- typically a once-annually event worthy of some note -- and tear the wretched thing to shreds. Last year's Rogue Warrior was one such game, which I freely admit to crapping on, and Homefront definitely deserves the scorn. But the problem with Homefront isn't just that it sucks, which it certainly does. The problem is that it reveals just how badly many first-person shooters are starting to suck. It's a game that magnifies the preexisting trend of developing to the lowest common denominator.

Look, if Homefront's multiplayer still ticks your boxes, so be it - I think it's an absolute blast. Yet for all the hours I've enjoyed putting into the multiplayer, I still feel insulted by the thoughtlessness of the single-player. Then again, the first-person shooter genre has got by on dross-like narrative for some time, so I'm not sure why I expected anything better of Homefront.

It is difficult to say anything good about Homefront. It's a half-baked idea crammed into a half-baked game, and while I'll freely admit that a quasi-realistic military-style first-person shooter with a heavy focus on the multiplayer mode is not exactly my cup of tea, I've played enough of them at this point that I feel confident in saying when one has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

The most intensely absurd moment I experienced in Homefront occurred when -- shortly after finishing the requisite dull sniper mission, but slightly before the knockoff AC130 section -- I hopped in a chopper with some American military grunts. The pilot yelled "I hope y'all don't mind some music," and the 1966 hit "Time Has Come Today" began playing. The song lasted for all of 15 seconds before the next Very Dramatic Event triggered some appropriately ominous music. This was perhaps the most bewildering moment of rote game design that I've ever encountered: Was the music supposed to excite me? Was I supposed to gear up for the coming fight? Doubtful, it came and went almost before I could identify it. Nah, that scene exists for the same reason that so many of Homefront's sections exist: Someone else made money on them first.

Games as an art form are ready for that next big step, I think. We're ready for that true war game that explores all of a conflict's facets and ramifications, but for now we're stuck with drivel like Homefront that's still about Buff McRockHard fighting evil foreigners. Homefront is the most insidious kind of bad game-it's the kind that masquerades as something more special.
