The Horde

I give this game a round 5 just because it's fun and different to most strategy or action games in the sense that it's both at the same time. Oh and watch out for the surprise twist at the end... You'll probably see it coming but that's beside the point.

This imaginative game tries to do something different, and it works. The brain-to-thumb action will keep your head in the game. The Horde deserves a top spot in the 3DO herd. Remember, you Horde it here first.

The full-motion video is some of the cleanest seen on the Saturn, but the village graphics could have been improved from the 3DO version. The sound is excellent and the clear rumble of the Hordes' belching lets you in on their location. The Horde is a clever and addicting game that should be eaten up by all Saturn owners.

Balansen mellan action och strategi är den bästa jag någonsin stött på. Du behöver inte tänka över dina drag i flera timmar men man kan spela som man vill utan att tänka alltför mycket på vad som komma skall. Personligen lärde jag mig spelet efterhand som jag spelade det.

This title is a definite must-have for the 3DO. While anything with cows in it is inherently good, The Horde really brought life and magic to my screen--not only with excellent full-motion video sequences, but lively, interactive gameplay and creative and entertaining characters. The storyline is a riot, and the full motion video sequences are extremely well-done. My only misgiving is that it is a little too easy outwit the strategic element of the game.

Das amerikanische Softwarehaus Crystal Dynamics sollte eigentlich das Vorzeigelabel des mit vielen Vorschußlorbeeren bedachten 3DO-Systems werden. Doch wegen der wenig berauschenden Verkaufszahlen dieser neuen Superkonsole erscheinen die Produkte jetzt auch auf CD-Rom für PCs. Gut für uns!

Es war einmal ein armer Findling namens Chauncey. Ganz allein auf dieser Welt, ohne Heim und Familie, wurde er von einer freundlichen Herde wilder Kühe aufgezogen. Arm aber ehrgeizig trat er als junger Mann eine Stellung als Mundschenk im Palast des gütigen Königs Winthrop von Franzpowanki an.

Såväl grafiken som ljudet i själva arkaddelen förtjänar oreserverat beröm. Animationerna av de olika figurerna är rent otroligt bra - synen av en Hordling som hoppar in i en hage, sväljer en ko och sedan klappar sig förnöjt på magen med ett förnöjt "Yum-yum", den är helt obetalbar. The Horde måste helt enkelt ses - och höras.

Good acting in the video clips; a great soundtrack; and fast-paced gameplay. The interface is somewhat clunky, and gameplay can get a little repetitive. This is a solid mix of strategy and fun that anyone can start enjoying as soon as they pop it in their CD-ROM drive.

Un titolo in grado di stupire. Non è certo un capolavoro, ma sa regalare ottimi momenti di gioco! Nota di merito all'origiinalità ed alla capacità di utilizzare in maniera intelligente il supporto multimediale, senza scadere nel banale. Consigliato a tutti gli amanti del 3DO.

I'm not the world's biggest strategy game fan, but The Horde really captured my affection with its wacky characters and story and its addictive gameplay.

Released during the summer of 94, The Horde from Crystal Dynamics has been one of the most innovative games ever created for the 3DO system. Since then, different versions have appeared on systems such as the PC's and other consoles, but if you want to get the most out of the game, then you must play it on a 3DO!

A very original title where you must defend your land by building traps, moats, etc. from a band of killers named The Horde. This is a nice blend of action and strategy and thrown in are some hilarious cinemas. Very well done.

Das Spielprinzip ist nicht gigantisch tiefgründig, die Anzahl der Szenarien überschaubar. Aber irgendwie funktioniert diese etwas bizarr anmutende Mischung aus Schwertschwingen und strategischer Planung. Wiederholtes Durchspielen ist halbwegs reizvoll: Zum einen kann man sein Action-Talent durch Übung verbessern, zum Andern wird ein optimales Absolvieren der einfachen Anfangs-Szenarien belohnt. Bereits eingekaufte Extra-Technologien werden nämlich in die späteren Runden übernommen. Ein Spiel fürs Leben ist das nicht - dafür gibt es einfach nicht genug taktischen Tiefgang. Mittelfristig spendet es aber erfreulich viel Spielspaß. Man ist schnell drin, die Story kommt bestens rüber und das Dörferhüten kann durchaus motivieren.

As a young squire entrusted with defending the Kingdom of Franzpowanki from evil, gluttonous monsters, Cameron mugs ineffectually, as if he's unsure what his motivation should be for something that's not quite a movie, not quite a TV show. Marginally more entertaining are periodic bulletins from FNN (the Franzpowanki News Network), in which a besequined commentator briefs players.

This game is fun, but very difficult, and can be frustrating at times because you can only save the game every four rounds (once each year). The best part is that The Horde is a game unlike any other. If Crystal Dynamics can refine this new style of game to be more playable, it could easily get our highest rating. Tired of platforms, shooters, racers and fighting games? The Horde has a lot to offer and can even be fairly addictive.

If you love/loathe Trip Hawkins' wet dream machine as much as I do, you really should pick up "The Horde". Yeah, it's lightweight and repetitive, but you'll likely find some enjoyment in it, and the Kirk factor gives it that extra cult status we love. So go squish some Horde, I have to go clean up after Poncho.

Despite humorous video scenes, larger-than-life graphics and realistic moos and belches, The Horde is plagued by spreading itself too thinly and over-challenging gameplay. By combining two game genres that have been fully exploited on their own. The Horde has left too many logistical problems unsolved.

3DO:lle on tehty hyviäkin pelejä, mutta The Horde ei varmasti kuulu niihin. PC:n pelinä siitä ei ole mihinkään.

The graphics are very nice, and the sound effects are exceptional. The renaissance-age music is well orchestrated but somewhat repetitive. The Horde has a good concept, but the gameplay couldn't quite live up to it.
