This is a haven for poker lovers. That's the bottom line. Hoyle Poker has to be one of the most fun computer games I have played in a long time. Ever since I have seen the movie Rounders, I have been on this poker high, and now I can act on it without having to have seven friends over at my house. I can just turn the computer on and play. Sure, there have been poker games made before, but none this fun, in my opinion.

The pacing of each hand is comfortably fast, so if you fold early the following hand comes around fairly quickly. This pacing, coupled with the comprehensive selection of rules and handsome graphics, allows Hoyle Poker to take its rightful place with Sierra's other entertaining and well-designed card games.

While you can turn the comments off, you can't easily replace the artificial opponents with human ones over the Internet, given Sierra's buggy link. The two dozen different poker variations, including Baseball, Omaha, and Cincinnati, give you a decent way to practice for your real-world games with friends, but how many hands of simulated poker can a person sit through? In wonder whether Sierra could publish a tic-tac-toe game under the Hoyle license and still get $25 for it? At this rate, we're sure to find out.

Break out the beer and peanuts, gather around the virtual table, and crack open a fresh deck (or in this case, game box) - it’s time for Hoyle Poker, Sierra’s latest release in the Hoyle series of card and casino games. Sierra calls Hoyle Poker, "Poker with an attitude!" Your gregarious virtual opponents utter one-liners, insults, and depressingly bad jokes as often as you want. Just crank up the attitude meter if you desire a talkative (and somewhat annoying) group of players or slide it down for a more serious atmosphere. The game is reasonably priced, includes over 20 poker variations - everything from "Baseball" to "Murder" - and you won’t have any dirty mugs or crumbs to clean up when the night is over.
