The original idea behind the Questprobe series was to have twelve games, each with a corresponding comic book created by Marvel Comics. The first three games and their comics, featuring the Hulk, Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four's Human Torch and Thing, were released but Adventure International went bankrupt before they fourth game, featuring the X-Men, was completed. There was a tie-in comic based on the game. The villain resembles the game author Scott Adams. According to Adams, the Marvel art department asked him if he had any ideas for the villain and he just sent in a picture of himself. The reaction, as quoted in Retro Gamer #5:
