Hulk fans rejoice! At last there is a game worthy of the green beast and you can count the Hulk as one of the best comic book games available thus far. While there are a number of things that could have used some improvement, this shouldn’t keep gamers from enjoying this engaging smash-and-bash action game. I recommend picking this one up, Xbox owners--this is definitely the version to own.

This seems to be the year that a lot of comic book series are made into movies. This year alone we have seen many franchises such as: X-Men 2, the Hulk, and many others. Another interesting thing is that a lot of these movies also have game tie-ins, but the sad thing is that these games usually end up being disappointing. Radical Entertainment comes along and decides to release the Hulk a few weeks before the movie hits theaters. The question remains, will this game be good, or just a sad attempt to cash in on a game-to-movie tie in?

Like the Hulk himself, The Hulk game is pretty mindless. But it’s a blast to play, the PC version costs $20 less than any console version, and you can run it at a higher resolution. What’s not to like?

The Hulk is a fun, mindless and short romp that will entertain action fans. However, the redundancy of the gameplay will keep the game from being a long-term investment of time. Hardcore Hulk fans will appreciate the extra features, but anyone else will be satisfied with one go-through.

Using the proper "destroy everything" approach that a game of this nature needs in conjunction with an easy to learn combo system, Hulk doesn't steer action fans wrong too often. The real treat, however, is sitting back and waiting for a rumored and possible sequel -- a game that will more than likely fix the nitpicks of this version. All they have to do is drop the Banner segments, tack on 20 more levels, throw in a few new moves, and put us face-to-face with Abomination and we could easily find ourselves in beat 'em up heaven. In the meantime, this first rendition of the Hulk is pretty darned satisfying. Definitely worth a try.

For the Hulk, the designers have drawn heavily from the film's look. Gamma base looks exactly as Ang Lee imagined it and you'll see lots of familiar props and sets. You'll see them, and then you'll destroy them. But they also paid homage to the comic by giving everything a light and surprisingly effective cel-shaded look. Everything in the game is just beautiful to look at and all the animation is both convincing and stylish. There are 30 missions total, and each one features a slightly different look and new things to smash.

My reaction to The Hulk varied over the course of the game. At first I was frustrated by the control issues and the boring opening mission, where instead of throwing barrels and crates I was cowering behind them. Keyboard confusion got me killed a few times by run-of-the-mill soldiers, and I found the sneak around/solve puzzles stuff as Bruce Banner dreary. Things improved after the first half-hour or so, although I’m still unsure whether the game actually got a lot better (it definitely got somewhat better, as I soon got to toss around cars and smash down walls) or I just got used to the disappointing control system. There was always a little frustration bubbling under the surface of the cool “Man, I just knocked down ten guys by clapping my hands!” stuff. Regardless, I still have to give The Hulk a top grade. It’s a great recreation of the old Marvel comic book to which geeks like myself will quickly warm, and the best use of a movie license in at least a couple of years.

Overall, what can be said about Hulk? Yes, it is a movie spin-off. Perhaps Hulk is more suited to being a computer game than on the big screen, with the comic book appearance that it has. At any rate, Hulk is a really fun game, and incredibly playable. The balance between Bruce Banner and Hulk presents a bit more game to get your teeth into as just Hulk-ing around would soon become a bit samey. There is a plot of sorts, not that it really matters. I think the great strength here is to appeal to people who have seen Hulk before - for many of us it was when we were young. If it has the same impact on the youth of today, I really don't know. Surely the ability to cause mass chaos with your bare hands is enough, at least in the short term.

Despite the fact that Hulk is easily Radical Entertainment's best videogame project ever, and the number-one version of the Jade Giant to ever come to console and PC, I can't help but feel as though it was still held back a bit from what it can truly be. Hurt by the tedious and boring Banner missions and a smacked around by a troubled and immovable camera, Hulk suffers in areas that should have been tightened before release.

With videogames based on summer blockbusters selling like hotcakes (X2: Wolverine's Revenge and Enter the Matrix have both done extremely well despite a flush of mediocre reviews), it's really no surprise to see that Vivendi Universal has dipped its own foot into the pool with the digital reenactment of its parent company's impending hit, The Hulk. Developed by Radical Entertainment (best known for the snowboarding adventure Dark Summit) and powered by the full cooperation of Marvel Comics and Universal Pictures, The Hulk could potentially be just as big as its predecessors -- and even bigger if the movie draws the type of numbers its supporters are expecting. But how does the game play? Don't wait to find out -- join IGN Insider today and get instant access to the full scoop!

The Hulk work good with keyboard, but I like using force-feedback gamepad — it rumbles when Hulk smash. But there only five save-game slots, and progress save only at end of level. GRRR! Lazy console port make Chulk angry. Me like game. Me like unlocked mini-challenges, movie trailers, and other extras. It only $29.99. The Hulk is strongest one there is.

WindowsGame Chronicles
The Hulk isn’t a bad game by any means. While I did find it boring near the end I really can’t think of anyway you could have made it better and I’m guessing the designers fell victim to the limitations of the main character. After all, when all you can do is rampage and smash things, how creative can you really get? I was bored with Spider-Man by the end of that game. These superheroes are one-trick ponies and once you have seen them perform the show is over and it’s time to move along. Despite the shallow gameplay, playing the Hulk is a guilty pleasure and with all of his trademark moves intact there are dozens of ways to dispatch your enemy and destroy your surroundings. If you are a true Hulk fan then this is a definite purchase. If you just want a weekend rampage then rent before you buy and save yourself some “green”.

WindowsActionTrip
Much like The Hulk comic book revolved around a story of two opposing personalities, this game is a story about two very opposing gameplay modes. The stealth segment with Bruce Banner is too simplistic and flawed to be truly engaging, but the segment with The Hulk more than makes up for it. The game is ultimately very linear and shallow, and it doesn't do the comic book characters justice, but it's still enjoyable and addictive if viewed as a pure arcade action / beat-em-up experience.

There’s a good few unlockable gifts and a bunch of secrets to discover that will keep the gamer coming back for more, with the inclusion of mini-games and the dynamic physics system this is a game that’s good for relieving stress. When you complete the main game you can then gain access to any level you like, so if you want to relive the first few levels or break things as the Hulk without having to stealth around as Banner you can. It’s a good stab at a movie related game and while it doesn’t really break any new ground, it breaks the scenery and everything else quite nicely.

XboxThe Video Game Critic
The Hulk's graphics are outstanding. Instead of going for realism, the developers went with a comic-book style cell-shaded look, which is very easy on the eyes. Likewise, the high-quality sound effects and music soundtrack make you feel like you're participating in an action movie. On top of it all, you'll get to unlock terrific artwork and video clips of the making of the film. The Hulk is so good that it makes the movie look all that much worse.

PlayStation 2Game Shark
There are many things in this game that are impressive and after having a bad experience with the bugs in Enter The Matrix, I was glad to see this game well put together and error free. Even times when you have up to 8-10 enemies on screen at once the game stays as smooth and flowing with no slow downs whatsoever. The Hulk is quite a fun game to sit down and play. Although it isn't the lengthiest game by any means, it does have some replay value with a lot of unlockable features such as the previously mentioned Gray Hulk and a third, still unknown game play mode that can be unlocked using a code from the movie when it hits theatres later this month. All in all, the Hulk is definitely a great game to spend some time smashing and bashing. But as for the long run, perhaps this is why The Hulk isn't known as "Incredible" anymore.
75
GameCubeGame Chronicles
Overall, The Hulk is a fun and well-designed game. What it lacks in fancy music and top-notch graphics it makes up for by allowing you to slip on the green skin of The Hulk and crush everything in sight. While it won’t be the kind of game you will play for many days straight, it is a fun distraction and worth the money at a discounted price. Wait for some folks to trade in their copies and then go get a bargain on some real fun.

Ausstattung bietet The Hulk ebenfalls ausreichend, was Fans des grünen Kraftpaketes erfreuen wird.

All in all, if you consider yourself a Hulk fan or a Marvel fanatic, you probably already own this game. If so, I hope you’re enjoying tearing through towns and places laying waste to your enemies. However, if numerous limited game features, shortened play and poorly implemented secondary characters reduce this game to the try before you buy category.

If you’ve ever been a comic book fan, you’ve got to be somewhat happy and alarmed at the recent explosion of interest and development of the entertainment industry into your pastime. With many ideas in these companies going stale, they seem to turn an eager eye to proven plotlines and characters that’ve stood the test of time. (Besides that, most of the ideas in comics are more original than a lot of the movies or games around.) Marvel’s embodiment of a raging Id, The Incredible Hulk, is merely the latest to have been strip mined from the comic world, becoming a less than stellar film which splashed onto screens before fading away. Just like any summer blockbuster film, it had a plethora of merchandising, including the latest superhero offering on all three major consoles, GBA and PC from VU Games and Radical Entertainment.

For all that The Hulk misses on, like the repetitive level designs and the clumsy stealth action sequences, the game gets enough of it right to tip the scales in its favor. The action sequences are fun, but the combat is so simple and the story mode so short that the game's lasting appeal is limited. Unless you're a huge fan of The Hulk, you'd be best off renting and beating the game over a weekend. It won't take you very long, but it'll still be a largely satisfying experience.

With the current rash of comic book movies sweeping through Hollywood, the video game tie-in has practically become an inevitability. For instance, Ang Lee's big-screen interpretation of The Hulk is just around the corner, so VU Games and Radical Entertainment have stepped up with a video game counterpart. At its core, The Hulk is a simple beat-'em-up action game that delivers an enjoyable comic book experience with plenty of wanton destruction, as well as its fair share of flaws.

Phase Beat Them All : on joue Hulk, on casse tout, on s'éclate. Phase Infiltration : on joue David Banner. On rampe.

The bottom line here is that the game was meant for consoles, and renting. It's seriously fun and additive.... for a few hours. The game loses its flavor quicker than a pack of Fruit Stripes gum... It's colorful and packs a ton of enjoyment at first, a few minutes later it turns gray and tastes like a rubber eraser.

Hulk provides thoroughly enjoyable action interrupted by moments of painfully simplistic stealth gameplay. As the Hulk, players are given a real sense of power ‘smashing enemies’ skulls into pavement and clapping so loud that their ears bleed, and hurling I-beams at electric vampires. The fighting system can easily be a button-masher’s paradise, but it also allows for some cute combos, such as throwing an enemy up and sonic-clapping them on the way down. Truly, being the Hulk is just plain fun.

Comic book fans have never felt so validated – while Hollywood has brought classic superheroes to the silver screen, video game publishers are making them playable on the small screen. "Hulk" is the latest comic book-based video game and movie tie-in, following April's "X2: Wolverine's Revenge" and last year's "Spider-Man." Universal Interactive's "Hulk" – now available on all three console platforms and the PC – is a monster of an action game, but it's not a perfect one.

I've never been much of a comic book fan, but have taken to assimilating comics-based knowledge through close observation of the increasingly successful Hollywood films that they've spawned. I know, for example, that Daredevil looks just like a slightly slack-jawed Ben Affleck, that Mr. Freeze is Austrian and says things like "You're not sending ME to the COOLER!", and that The Punisher's favorite activity is to recline in the sewers -- nude -- while looking suspiciously like He-Man.

While there are flaws in the execution of the game, they aren't major enough to prevent it from being enjoyable for true believers.

The Hulk is billed as an action/stealth combo, but the stealth portion is so underdeveloped that The Hulk is really an interrupted action title that suffers from intermittent stealth missions. While the action portion is fun and the game does a great job of making gamers become The Hulk, it’s repetitiveness and brevity ultimately make this game an ideal rental.

The film HULK directed by Ang Lee has gotten mixed reviews for being too cerebral and not capitalizing on the "Hulk smash" metality. Sadly, that's never been what the story of the character has been about - it has always been a Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde kind of tale, exploring the psyche of the duality of man.

If you're looking for a lot of depth in the fighting system, you won't find it. But you can find a decent array of combat moves right from the get-go. The relative single-mindedness of your goals as the Hulk tends toward the repetitive, but switching off levels with a friend seems enough to put a bit of pep back in the process. Have a few beers, break a few things, and let the experience roll off you. It's a summer movie game, after all; deep thoughts can wait for a rainy day.

"Hulk" é certamente a melhor adaptação do herói para games já feita até hoje. E apesar disso não ser exatamente uma façanha, o conceito geral do personagem é transmitido com bastante sucesso nesse game. O jogo é curto, mas dada a simplicidade e facilidade, talvez seja melhor dessa maneira. Alguns mini-games extras ajudam, mas no fim das contas "Hulk" é uma breve aventura com menos de 10 horas de aproveitamento.

Eigenlijk is The Hulk vooral een gemiste kans.

Stylized in the typical brawler vein, The Hulk hones in on the true essence of destruction and places it into gamers’ hands, but expels little effort to make this aspect remotely entertaining. He can leap 20 feet into the air with ease, smash through walls, pummel puny human soldiers, and lift and hurl helicopters like Randy Johnson does a baseball. It sounds like a blast, and it is…but only for a few minutes. If anything, the game specializes in redundancy. The same goes for combat. The Hulk’s arsenal of moves, while inspired by the movie and comic series, is fairly slim. The enemies that you face are repetitive as well. Throughout the course of the entire game, you’ll only confront a handful of different bad guy types. Toss in the fact that almost every mission is designed within the "move from point A to point B" formula, and you can clearly see how this game loses its luster fairly quickly.

Think of Destroy All Monsters Melee – it’s supposed to be played in small bursts with friends. The Hulk features the same play dynamics and schemes, but is dragged out through a dull, mindless Story Mode. Presumably, the stealthy Bruce Banner levels are supposed to break up the monotony; but they aren’t well developed, and although I thought this not possible, more bland than the action. Three phrases to describe The Hulk: technically solid, aesthetically pretty, and phenomenally dull.

What are this game's good points then? Well it is always good to smash the hell out of everything in sight and the endurance challenge offers that. The story, although vastly simplified, is actually all right and the stylised cut scenes are really nice to look at. In terms of true substance this game is once again found seriously lacking sadly. Pick this game up if you're a die-hard fan by all means but I'd suggest you get it out from the video shop before you spend your hard earned cash on it. It's a bit of a laugh but with no real substance.

What you do in the first ten minutes is what you’re going to be doing for the rest of your excruciating experience with the game. Every once in a while I would find a new technique, but I’d be yawning again within a few seconds. The Dr. Banner stages represent what may be some of the crappiest coding on a next-gen title. When the Chicken Run game has better stealth, you know you’re in for a one-way trip to Headachesville, USA; population: you.

If you’re looking to let off some steam with a simple beat-em-up, this title is easily worth a rental. However, while die-hard Hulk fans will likely be impressed by this offering’s presentation of the Hulk’s unbridled power, the story mode doesn’t last too long, and the gameplay becomes repetitive fairly quickly, making it a bit pricey for most gamers. If you can find this release for the right price, or simply love the legend, this title does have value, as few games can be picked up so easily at a moment’s notice, giving you a nice tension breaker after a bad day.

But that shouldn't stop fans from giving Hulk a spin as a weekend rental. The constant smashing is actually pretty fun for a while. Just don't drop any green on this green giant, or you might wind up smashing your TV.

Some gamers, especially hardcore comic book fans, might enjoy the chaos and destruction Hulk can deliver. Most folks, though, won't care if Hulk is angry, they wouldn't like it either way.

And sadly, so does the game. While it genuinely makes you feel like The Hulk (more than I can say for recent comic book duds X2: Wolverine's Revenge and the shameful Batman: Dark Tomorrow), it doesn't make you feel much like playing once you've gotten through the Story mode, which should take you all of about two days. For that matter, the bad enemy AI, poor enemy variety and extreme linearity makes it hard to want to play any of the levels more than once. In the case of the Banner levels, you won't want to play them at all.

As we struggle to keep up with the lightning-fast progress of modern technology, as our relationships buckle under the weight of countless self-help books, as our lives get more and more complex each passing day, you have to admire simplicity. And as superheroes go, it doesn't get simpler than The Hulk, whose entire thought process, daily business and reason for living can be summed up in just two words.

Green-skinned gamma radiated geeks hurl crates at one another in Universal Interactive's tie-in to the comic book adaptation by Ang Lee. Though not as pathetic as other superhero offspring like Batman: Dark Tomorrow, Hulk is nevertheless the video-game equivalent of fast food?quick, easy, and disposable. Its main problem is that poor game design choices, like interminably respawning soldiers, robots, and mutant pooches and puzzles that rarely deviate from the crate-pushing ilk, are made to present challenges for a character who can essentially put a skyscraper in a camel clutch. The resultant product is a dime-a-dozen summer-movie-coupled yawnfest rife with comic book in-jokes and jarring corporate product placement.

Before totally damning this game though, it must be said that the graphics and animation are as colorful and beautiful as any cartoon. They jump off the screen and the cell shading is vibrant and lively. Still, The Hulk is little more than an excuse for a smashfest and maybe this is one time that it would have been better to forego any adventure elements in favor of full-out, pulse-pounding action.

Sort of like Forrest Gump and Jon "Kid" Gibson, The Hulk is too simple for its own good, yet somehow likable in the end. While the beat 'em up action is undoubtedly repetitive, it was just solid enough to keep me playing for another level. And while I doubt I'll play it again, The Hulk offers enough action, mayhem, and general Hulkness to be a good buy for fans of the franchise. For the rest of us, it's a viable rental... But only if Dynasty Warriors 4 is already checked out.

I spent a considerable amount of time playing Vivendi Universal's Hulk game. Unlike my console colleague, who covered the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube versions of the game, I wasn't really sure how to put my opinion down in words. One side of me was happy that game was light years better than most movie adaptations. The other side of me was angry that more wasn't done to make this a truly great gameplay experience.

It's easy to assume that any game with a movie licence attached to it will be utter lowest common denominator rubbish, and it's pretty hard to think of many good examples since GoldenEye bucked the trend all those years ago. Since then, it's been a steady stream of sludge culminating in arguably the most heinous example, Enter The Matrix, which is busy committing daylight robbery the world over.
