Description

Hunter's Trophy is a first-person hunting game developed in cooperation with the Regional Federation of Hunters of the Pays de la Loire in France. Unlike the later Hunter's Trophy 2 games it is not set in a specific geographical location, but it offers environments based on themes such as fields, forests and marshlands. There are three game modes: career mode, quick hunt and shooting range. In the quick hunt mode a custom hunt can be created, by defining the environment, weather conditions (mist, fog, rain), the time of day, a large or small environment, the available weapons (shotguns, rifles or bows), and whether the hunt is done from hideout or through stalking.

The career mode offers a series of hunts based on specific hunting plans. In the first hunt for instance, you need to kill two rabbits. When all required animals have been hunted, the season is complete and the hunter moves on to a new one. There are different guns to choose from as well as a bow, unlocked gradually, and three types of outfits (dark, light and camo). The top left corner of the screen has an indicator to show how much sound you make. Centrally at the top there is a compass to show the general direction. Question marks appear there as an area of interest, usually where animals part of the hunting plan can be found. A windsock in the bottom left corner shows the wind direction. There is also a stopwatch to show the remaining time. The top right corner of the screen has three polygons that show the gauges of the hunter's powers. These are upgraded through experience. Blue icons in the environment mark places of interest, usually tracks left behind by animals. Once the animal has been identified and the hunter is close enough, coloured indicators surround the cross-hairs to mark the animal's direction. After unlocking the ability Eye of the Lynx, the presence of nearby animals can be sensed.

While aiming it is possible to zoom in and binoculars can be used as well. There are also certain restrictions. The hunter is penalized for exceeding the allowed quota and ducks for instance can only be shot in flight, not when they are resting. Animals such as badgers, young wild boars, does and laies are protected and cannot be shot without a penalty. Animals to hunt include beavers, boars, ducks, foxes, geese, hares, mallards, partridges, pheasants, rabbits, snipes, stags and woodcocks. The shooting range mode offers short challenges for up to four players, such as ball-trap, target, or silhouette shooting.

The PS3 version has optional support for the Move peripheral and is also sold as a bundle with different colours of ball-trap gun peripherals.
