Uniqueness is a rare commodity in the gaming industry. Many games, even great ones such as Lady Bug for the ColecoVision and K.C. Munchkin for the Odyssey2, are simply expansions of a formerly explored theme (mazes, like in Pac-Man). Vectron has some of the makings of a standard 2D shooter (you aim at stuff and fire), but its control technique and energy base-building objective makes it different from just about anything on the market. Unfortunately, it is not much fun.
The Intellivision control disc provides 16 degrees of control, but I still found it hard to aim my shots. Using the side buttons to position your "energy box" is touchy and clumsy. There's a lot happening on the screen at a given time, and completing a wave feels more like an accident than an accomplishment. I'm all for originality, but Vectron needs more fun and less "huh?"
