Book of Heroes

Book of Heroes is a turn-based dungeon crawler RPG. The player starts as a lowly cook with a character that can be customized through gender and look, and then performs quests, choosing a class as justicar, shadow walker or war mage, and training abilities in four tiers to become a hero. Each type of class has specializations unlocked gradually through a skill tree. Quests are selected from a main environment screen where additional areas are unlocked gradually. The story is entirely told to through text and battles are turn-based. Opponents are shown as cards and actions are selected from the bottom of the screen. Each type of attack requires a certain amount of time, so players have to juggle light and heavy attacks along with defense, various spells, items and potions.

There is a focus on multiplayer elements as players can organize themselves in guilds, perform raids and earn rewards for working together. Players can find each other through a global chat. There is single-player content, but a lot of rewards are in PvP games. The character's progress is measured as 'might' (a level based on equipment and gems) and it is used as barrier to enter certain events. Next to larger raids that last several hours, there are smaller group quests called challenges.

The game is free-to-play with additional in-app purchases, largely to avoid grind. There is also an energy system drained through actions such as healing and it takes a while until is recharged completely. Health and energy recharge in real-time, with a percentage for every few minutes. Gold shields form the premium currency. Most items can also be bought with silver coins as the regular currency, but usually at a higher price. Certain items are offered as advanced, elite of premier bundles that require gold shields. Gear can be customized in various ways with additional slots such as gem slots unlocked gradually. Loot gathered through quests can also be sold.
