The A.V. Club (Aug 09, 2010)
These are a couple of majorly surprising flaws in a game that’s otherwise polished, professional, and smart. You play Frogatto, a lazy, selfish frog on a quest to stop a blackmailing bully in hopes of a hefty reward. This means jumping and swimming through a visually rich, layered world full of enemies, which you can dodge, hop on, or in many cases, nab with your froggy tongue and then spit at other enemies. Unlimited lives, frequent save points and auto-checkpoints, and not-very-lethal baddies still edge Frogatto closer to a casual game than a serious challenge, but the design is great, the gameplay is as familiar as comfort food, and the wrap-up once you beat the game is a hoot. Paying customers might want to hold out for the upcoming version that will supposedly fix that infuriating pre-boss conversation problem, though…

I don't want to dwell too much on the game's controls, but it's worth nothing that because of the game's somewhat small virtual d-pad, the handling is far superior on the PC/Mac versions. Those issues aside, I had a great time with the game. The character dialogue is well-written, and its 30 levels make it a fairly lengthy platformer, so at its $1.99 price point it'd be a shame to pass it up. Much like Battle for Wesnoth, this game has some limited UI problems, but I fully expect those concerns to be addressed in a future update.

All in all? Frogatto is a platformer with an old-school style, a lovable character, and some great level designs. If you’re a platforming fan, you should be well pleased with this new entrant in the arena. Frogatto doesn’t introduce much innovation, but it is nevertheless a fun, polished title.

Multiplayer.it (Aug 24, 2010)

App Spy (2010)
It's easy to see what all the hype is about and as 'retro' platformers go it's certainly one of the most detailed on offer, but the controls do leave a tarnish that's hard to ignore; Frogatto is a great, if occasionally flawed, experience to enjoy.

Frogatto is full of retro platforming charm, but its clumsy controls may turn off some.

Pocket Gamer UK (Jul 29, 2010)
Bursting with pixel charm and offering up a vast, detailed world to explore, Frogatto boasts all the hallmarks of a truly classic 2D platform adventure without the spot-on controls.
