App Spy (2010)
Spider-Man: Total Mayhem is an easy to pick up and hard to put down action-brawler that not only does justice to the comic book hero, but to the game genre itself.

Your Spidey sense should be tingling, because Spider-Man Total Mayhem is a remarkable game on just about every level.

Gameloft has a hit on their hands with this beat em up platformer superhero tie-in. Solid mechanics and quick-smooth animations bring a gaming aesthetic to the iPhone that has rarely been seen.
IGN UK (Sep 01, 2010)
Spider-Man is both one of the best action games on the App Store right now as well as the best superhero game you can get for the iPhone. The combo-happy combat system is great fun; you’ll love helping Parker bust chops with a variety of aerial attacks and web grabs. The narrative is well constructed (good writing can never be over-valued), and it looks fantastic. Unless you are strictly only down with puzzles and word games, there is no reason not to swing over to the App Store now and download this phenomenal game.

Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem is fantastic fun, offering the speed and variety of a top notch action game with the vibrant colour and characters of a great comic book.

Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem is definitely challenging and has a difficulty setting for the casual and hardcore gamer out there. Normal was pretty hard for me, particularly the Rhino boss, who is very hard to get past on your first few attempts. The game uses the license well with the usual spidey geeky humor, and a good amount of fan service, for which this is a must have. For casual fans, this is still a great action brawler but keep in mind that it can get a little bit repetitive after a little while, despite the many characters and environments available. However, it is certainly the best superhero game out there right now for the iPhone.

Un jeu d'action plate-forme très sympathique, et qui bénéficie d'une action constante. Les amateurs du Tisseur apprécieront.

It's a not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, just a slightly poor use of the license. The game also suffers from Gameloft syndrome; the infliction that makes it play out like every other action orientated game Gameloft has churned out on the App Store. The combat's a tad shallow, and things get repetitive pretty darn quick, but it's still worth the comparatively small price tag. Just.

As crisp and vibrant as the game looks, there's little to elevate this above far cheaper and more interesting games designed around the controls - rather than shoehorned into them.
