Street Wrestler is still loads of fun, with the festive characters, backgrounds and music it’s more than a simple fighting game. The characters also each go through all levels on their own, so there is more than enough replay value. Even with its few flaws, it’s a great source of eye candy, and theme is more than original. The Street Wrestler app is available in the App Store now for $2.99.
And finally, if you’re thinking that a review of a game where enemies turn into chicken upon death shouldn’t be complaining about a lack of gravitas, then like a Sunday League team putting ten men behind the ball against Barcelona with a 0-0 scoreline and 2 minutes left, you probably have a point. Stop judging me.
The environments in Street Wrestler are simply gorgeous. The cell shaded art style, the detailed design, and the dynamically animated backgrounds all make this game one serious piece of stylish eye candy. The controls aren’t flawless, but they work well enough that the player can focus on fighting bad guys instead the controls. Street Wrestler does a great job at capturing the essence of what makes a side scrolling beat ‘em up game so fun, and it delivers it in a bright, insanely decked out, and easy to enjoy package.
While the biggest enjoyment can be found on the iPad due to both the screen size which takes advantage of it’s gorgeous visuals, as well as less action taking place under the buttons due to its size, the iPhone 4 is still a great device to enjoy this side-scrolling beat ‘em up. If you are a fan of Final Fight, Mexican wrestling and don’t mind replaying the relatively short levels to try out the different wrestlers then you can go far worse than Street Wrestler
