Iron Man

So, if you can get past Iron Man's steep learning curve and a little bit of tarnish in the visual department, what are you left with? A game that's far from perfect, but still better than a lot of movie and comic book tie-ins that have come before. For Iron Man fans, the game is a solid enough entry to add to your video game collections. For everyone else, there's at least enough to warrant a rental.

In essence, if you absolutely loved the film to bits and absolutely must have an Iron Man game to go with it, then Sega have done as good a job as they can of producing a playable version of the movie. It’s just disappointing that they didn’t get to do more with the source material, and perhaps wrap all that spit and polish and top notch presentation round a more engaging core game.

All in all, know that this is not a good game, but it's not that bad either. Die hard fans of Iron Man will really appreciate the smooth controls and frantic gameplay. After all, the game feels like you've stepped into the toughest part of a comic. However, if you're just a regular gamer, you're going to want to pass on this title. The repetitive missions, terrible story, and ugly cutscenes are not worth your hard earned cash! Additionally, there is no local multiplayer action nor is there an online component. Consequently, replayability of the title is almost nil! In other words, give the game a wide berth unless you really love action for action's sake.

As movie tie in games go, Iron Man sits neatly on the pile and follows the formula of being decidedly average at best. There's nothing here that really stands out to give a "wow" factor. As a compliment to the movie, then sure the game will garner some fans because effectively you can be Iron Man, however the difficulty on default settings might just alienate some of the fan base. Perhaps the developers made some levels overly difficult to increase the longevity of the game, who knows? Either way, if your looking for a simple old school style shooter, then Iron Man is certainly worth the rental. Beyond that, you'd have to be one of the biggest Marve/Iron Man fans if you were to go the whole hog and buy the game. Some fiddly controls, bland levels and simplistic gameplay make for an un-engaging gameplay experience that is best tackled in small doses. Oh and Paltrow's boobs are always worth a look to see how well rendered they are.

Things are much the same in the audio department: we're talking about functionality over flash here. The effects are fine, if a little repetitive by nature, and the music is suitably epic but totally forgettable. At least Robert Downey Jnr. And Terrence Howard voice their characters, and they do it well but the script is hardly an Oscar-winning effort. Bonus points should be awarded for actually featuring Black Sabbath's classic Iron Man song in the closing credits though!

Whilst the game has some nice features in it, the overall gameplay is far too repetitive and boring. With this being a movie tie-in it is likely that the game was rushed in order to meet the movie release date, and that's a real shame because the game has some potential. As it is however, if you're looking for a quick action fix it may be worth a rental, particularly if you are Iron Man fan.

While there was a lot of potential here for a quality licensed video game, it ended up being marred with problems with the controls, frustrating difficulty and lame environments. For the fans of the film, the only reason to buy the game is to play through the storyline. If you weren’t a fan of the film, then the game is definitely not for you. And for gaming fans, well…it is best you rent before buying.

Wer nach einem unterhaltsamen Action-Spiel sucht, der nimmt sich besser irgendein anderes Spiel – am besten aber keine Filmumsetzung.

Iron Man makes a decent opening argument against the just-another-movie-game stigma. However, by smacking you with a punishing difficulty spike instead of striving for more complex mission structures, it sacrifices most of the goodwill it garners in the early going. Completing the game is a frustrating trial with no substantial reward, and even sympathetic jurors will have a hard time ruling in its favor.

Unser Tipp: Das Geld lieber sparen und in den Film gehen, der ist im Gegensatz zum Videospiel nämlich richtig gut. Das Spiel könnt ihr dann getrost auf den Schrottplatz bringen.

Yeah they kind of approached it like the Spider-man games, they must've thought that simply the act of moving around an open-world as the main character would be fun in itself. But even the last Spider-man game was much more fluid and detailed, and the dialogue in Iron Man, as well as the cities devoid of life, really pales in comparison. I'm giving it 5/10.

To be fair to SEGA and developer Secret Level Iron Man isn't an awful game; it's just a long way from the level my expectations had been raised to. After the movie turned out to be such good fun, the game landed with a heavy thud, failing to offer anywhere near the same level of enjoyment.

Iron Man is a waste of your time. The few minutes that it takes to screw around with the fully-powered suit are probably the best moments of the game and some of the upgrades you can put into the suit are kind of impressive, but it goes downhill from there with bad design and a frustrating difficulty that forces you to make up some pretty cowardly solutions in order to win. Sure, there are unlockables and a few gameplay modes, but they don't fix the major flaws that are in this sub-par action title. Take your sixty bucks, go watch Iron Man in the theaters three more times, and keep the thirty you have left over for pizza delivery or something. Just don't waste any on this game.

En conclusión y en una frase, otra adaptación más tirada a la basura. Las virtudes del juego son muy escasas si las comparamos con los fallos y deficiencias que presenta. Desde la corta duración del modo historia hasta la escasez de modos de juego, pasando por un sistema de juego muy repetitivo y un apartado gráfico deficiente. Resulta triste decir que el mejor apartado de todo el título es el sonoro porque simplemente cumple, pero en realidad es así. Un título únicamente dirigido a los fans y para su alquiler: con el catálogo que hoy en día tiene Xbox 360 no merece la pena desembolsar 60 € en un título pasable que puedes acabar en una tarde.

Seriously at no time did this game display what the 360 was capable of. It felt like a lazy PS2 port (which it probably was). There are so many other games you could be spending your forty quid on - like GTA IV for example, or even saving up for a movie franchise game that actually does bring the feel and atmosphere of the film into the gameplay: The Bourne Conspiracy. Look out for our review of that and don't waste your time with this.

In the end, Iron Man is nothing more than another attempt to cash in on a summer blockbuster. Any hope of this game bucking the trend is quickly squashed once you take a single step past the fancy menu and mission briefings. As with most movie-to-game adaptations, be sure to steer clear.

You can leave Iron Man in the shelves. If you're a die-hard fan of the comic and the movie, you'll have to get this game, but only to make your collection complete. Other than that I can't come up with a reason to buy it.

Iron Man in video game form is quite a mess. You're better off saving your money, or seeing the movie a few more times. One to avoid unless you must have the movie tie-in/cash-in game.

Was haben sich die Entwickler bei dieser Filmumsetzung gedacht? In der Vergangenheit haben wir schon einige miese Titel zu Gesicht bekommen, aber dieses Spiel übertrifft bei den negativen Aspekten einfach alles. Die Grafik sieht schlecht aus und ist veraltet. Der Sound ist monoton und auch die Lokalisierung ist kaum geglückt. Bei der Bedienung gibt es auch nichts Positives zu vermerken, da diese viel zu komplex ausgefallen ist. Der „grünende“ Abschluss ist und bleibt die Schlaftabletten-ähnliche Atmosphäre.

Sobald ihr in den Schwebezustand geht, wird die Steuerung jedoch sehr heikel, zumindest mitten in Gefechten, wo ihr im späteren Verlauf fast nur nach Schema F vorgehen könnt: Zuschlagen, verstecken, zuschlagen, verstecken, zuschlagen, ...

If you can bear with the horrible graphics and the utterly mediocre sound quality, then the game play that grows on you might be enough to keep you playing, as parts of it are interesting and can be somewhat fun to play (assuming giant lasers aren’t shooting through buildings and decimating you). The control scheme for the game is somewhat organic, with the flight and repulsors being controlled with the triggers and secondary weapons and melee being controlled by the face buttons. But it all becomes irrelevant to the location of the Uni-beam which you will be using for most of the game. Replayability is possible by playing previous missions with unlocked suits, but overall, Iron Man: The Game is for the hardcore fans only.

What can we praise? Well, reducing the sensitivity of the camera, prevents said camera from auto-locking onto every single enemy immediately. This makes Iron Man playable-ish. You can’t calibrate the flight sensitivity, though, so flying is jerktastic. But when you do manage to carefully soar through skyscrapers in the sun, it can look very impressive, with huge draw distances and a reasonably stable framerate. But Iron Man is so jerky to control, he’s totally without grace. Much like the game as a whole, in fact.

Much to our discontent, Iron Man joins the long list of crappy movie tie-ins, sinking lower than Treyarch's Spider-Man 3 and even lower than Shiny's Enter the Matrix.

Again, I haven't seen the movie, so I cannot advise you to watch it. All I can say is stick to the comics, if you haven't read them already, but do your best to avoid this game.

It's the classic movie game mentality of approaching it from a place of trying to the get likenesses right, and the feel of the main character right. And yeah, some of it wasn't bad, like the targetting wasn't bad and flying cool. But the foundation of a game needs to be a good idea, something that's fun for people to DO. And the end result here is something I wouldn't play with a 10 foot Sixaxis, I'm giving it 3 out of 10 chickens.

This product is too crude for even the ‘mainstream’ demographic; it can only possibly appeal to the ignorant. Blissfully unaware of the state of the art, there’s a chance that some youngsters who’ve never played a decent game before may enjoy this product. It’s oddly reminiscent of some of the retro games of the 90s, 80s, and even the 70s, which folks enjoyed at the time simply because they didn’t know any better — frustration and repetition were all there was to gaming.

Everything about it is unpolished (save for the bearable shooting), from the graphics to the lack of any comprehensible plot, demonstrating why you should just go and see the movie instead. The game is surprisingly short too, without any sort of multiplayer and only the pathetic One Man Army mode to hold your attention outside the main game. An immensely high difficulty, due to the stupid amount of enemies that attack you at once, extends the lifespan, but for all the wrong reasons. However, despite all of this, the one thing that makes Iron Man such a god-awful experience is the fact that Iron Man simply cannot be controlled effectively. I can't believe that no one at SEGA noticed this, as it's such a simple thing to deal with. To be frank, Iron Man would make the superhero in question feel ashamed to be associated with it, before blowing it to kingdom come.

Si vous aimez les jeux creux, presque beau mais ennuyant, Iron Man est le titre qu'il vous faut.

Le jeu réussit d'ailleurs à nous laisser entrevoir de bonnes sensations et les premières minutes à fuser dans les airs en balançant des salves de missiles avant de déchiqueter un hélico sont assez sympathiques. Mais avec sa maniabilité brouillonne, sa réalisation technique médiocre et ses missions sans intérêt, Iron Man plombe vite et définitivement l'ambiance. Il devient même difficile de dire quoi de l'ennui ou de l'agacement prédomine lorsque l'on joue. Bref, Iron Man est déjà bon pour la casse.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of the movie, comics, or action games in general. Iron Man has little to offer but the pain of aneurysm-inducing frustration and disgust for the greedy underbelly of our lifestyle. If there is one truly good thing that I can say about Iron Man, it’s that Robert Downey Jr. did one hell of a bang-up job behind the microphone. He’s a stellar actor who can shed a ray of light on the most dismal situation, and I thank him for helping me pull through.
