Iron Man

If you can get past Iron Man’s head-scratching learning curve, what are you left with? A game that’s far from perfect, but still better than a lot of movie and comic book tie-ins that have come before ( *wink* Catwoman). For Iron Man fans, the game is a solid entry to add to your video game collection, when the price drops. For everyone else, it’s a rental.

Overall, the Iron Man title on the Wii lacked the spark that the film had; however, it’s a huge step up from last year's A2M film franchise adaptation, known as The Golden Compass. That said, if players are looking for a film to game adaptation that actually reflects the film, they should look elsewhere.

Iron Man is strictly about the suit. It’s almost like the video game was based entirely around the suit, with a few levels thrown in for good measure. In spite of the damage you’ll be taking for 90 percent of the game, it’s also too easy. Iron Man’s suit is a fun thing to play with through a rental. But unless you’re a diehard fan of the character, you’ll probably want to hold off on a purchase.

So richtig enttäuscht bin ich aber über die Tatsache, dass nicht die Xbox-360-Version für den PC portiert wurde, sondern die ungleich hässlichere PS2-Fassung - wie kommt man bloß auf so eine Idee!?

Iron Man just can't seem to get the lead out. Now let's end this article with another quote from the song: "Nobody wants him. They just turn their heads."

Webster's New World College Dictionary Fourth Edition defines bland as "tasteless, insipid, dull, etc." I describe bland as "Iron Man." There's nothing horribly wrong with this game, but there's nothing to make you handover a fistful of dollars. The levels are linear, the visuals are ho-hum, the story is lame and the cutscenes are bad. This game doesn't excel at anything.

I could go on and on, but if I haven't convinced you by now not to waste your time and money, you could be a masochist or a die-hard fan boy. Iron Man for the PC is another casualty in the sad and lengthy history of failed movie-game tie-ins. It has very few redeeming qualities and certainly nothing good enough to justify you even considering buying it. If you absolutely have to play an Iron Man game, I strongly recommend you check out the PS3 or Xbox 360 versions before you throw your money into this pit of fun-less oblivion.

I'll present you with an idea; I'll just run this by you real quick, so hear me out. Save forty bucks, go to your local multiplex, purchase a ticket to see the movie, buy whatever concessions make your theatre experience more enjoyable, and have a blast. The movie is good; the game is not, so save yourself the heartache, the pain, and a few hours. I, on the other hand, was not so lucky, but that's life.

A terrible action game in its own-right but made even worse because it was based on an awesome action film. Roll your eyes over this one folks.

Both the pros and cons of Iron Man on the PlayStation 2 led to me scoring the title as a "Meh" on the IGN scale--it wasn't awful or amazing for the platform. However, with the unlimited potential of the PC, standards are different here. Terrible visuals, straightforward/easy gameplay, and a plethora of other problems make Iron Man fail at being anything worth trying.

In the end, there’s no real reason to play this game. Combat is dull and unchallenging and the flying mechanics are twitchy and unresponsive. Long time fans of the comics will recognize various Iron Man villains, however they’re added to the story in such a clunky way, that their inclusion won’t make sense to anyone, even those who know who they are in the first place. If you’re looking for a fantastic Iron Man movie experience, go and see the movie. Leave this Iron Man on the scrap heap.
