It boasts an excellent and intriguing story, something that this genre usually ignores. (Bring on the aliens/nazis/dinosaurs…because…blooooood!) Not that there is anything wrong with that; many times story gets in the way of the point to a game. Not in this case, because the game –is- a story. And despite the difficulty getting there, I’m sure you’ll want to see it through to the end.

Overall not a bad game, but not a great game. There are items that seem to have been more focused on and it clearly shows in the game. Good idea, just could have used some more work improving areas such as the stealth mode to separate itself from the rest of the shooter genre.

Game Chronicles
Iron Storm doesn’t break any real new ground in gameplay or visuals, but it does take an existing and over saturated genre and spins it with a highly inventive background story allowing for some creative missions and an amazing blend of technology that spans nearly five decades. If you enjoy those “what if” parallel universe stories or just want to play a highly challenging combat game, Iron Storm offers you a dark and brooding journey into the horrors of war while remaining fun and accessible to a variety of gamers of all skill levels.

ActionTrip
Overall though, once I got rid of most of the nagging bugs and sat down to play Iron Storm, I soon got hooked on it and would not let go till the single player game was finished. In the end, that's all you should really care about when you're deciding whether or not a game is worth your hard-earned money.

Digital Press - Classic Video Games
From 4x Studio and publisher Dreamcatcher, Iron Storm is an excellent first-person shooter that more than holds its own against the best games in the genre. What makes the game so good is that it manages to combine tense shooting sequences with a well-written story set in a rather bleak alternate past where World War I has lasted 50 years. If I'm not mistaken, this is probably the only action-based game that touches on WWI (not counting flight sims like the Red Baron games), so it's definitely of interest to FPS fans who want a wildly different change of pace (and have played the Medal of Honor games to death).

Iron Storm isn't a game that's going to blow you away in its creativity in terms of gameplay, but it certainly is a nice subject change and has tons of style and grit. Sound and lighting are fantastic in certain areas (the train level when it goes dark comes to mind) and action is always in your face.

It is clear that 4x Studios' Iron Storm is more than just another FPS; the interesting storyline will surely intrigue gamers who are appealed by creative plots. In turn, many will find this game quite enjoyable; especially if you are looking for a challenging single player experience. Without being anything extraordinary, Iron Storm does have a few qualities that will appeal to fans of the action genre.

Iron Storm struck me as a fun, successful game that missed an opportunity to be great. With just a little more polish, and a more creative use of the innovative subject matter, this game could have ranked with the likes of Medal of Honor in today’s war-themed gaming market. The action is tense, well paced, and delivers solid, consistent thrills. My only real regret is the potential squandered by not exploiting the alternate history concept to its fullest. As it is, the game plays out as a good generic shooter with a fascinating concept. There are better games available, but don’t overlook this unheralded title if you’re seeking a little blood pumping (and spilling) excitement.

Game Over Online
Playing through Iron Storm was like looking back in hindsight on a historical event. What if they had done this? What if this was to happen instead of that? There are specifics parts of Iron Storm that are memorable; not only with the backdrop but also some of the scripted sequences. However, some of the action pieces, particularly the preset battles, are contrived, detracting from the overall allure of the title. If you're willing to overlook some of the flaws and you don't mind having a single player only experience, Iron Storm's premise makes the rest of the game a satisfying trip to the front lines.

The game presents challenge amidst the confusion of war. It looks good and plays well. Yes, it could have been better if the plot were integrated closer to the action (almost like the intrigue and surprise elements that were part of Eidos' Deus Ex), but as a shooter game, this is enjoyable.

Ferrago Ltd. (play.tm)
The problems of Iron Storm stem from the lack of polish and game testing. This is evident from the very beginning when you realise that you can't change the configuration of the keys. If you don't like having to use the cursors rather than 'wasd' then you're out of luck. Such an egregious omission suggests that the developers simply ran out of time or money to do their product justice. If you are a first person shooter fan then you will be entertained by 'Iron Storm', unfortunately it will also frustrate in almost equal measure.

GameSpot
Iron Storm's combination of challenging combat and puzzle elements set it apart from most run-and-gun shooters. It could have used quite a bit more polish, and it would have be more appealing as a budget-priced game, but for the 10 or 12 hours it takes to finish it, Iron Storm offers solid, if somewhat undistinguished, entertainment.

Armchair Empire, The
After first hearing about the storyline of Iron Storm, I was completely drawn to the idea. In it World War One has not ended and it is fifty years since it has started. The modern world has evolved around war, and things are different in a strange parallel universe. As Lieutenant Anderson, you embark on a mission that could alter the stalemate of the war and end it once and for all.

Overall Iron Storm is fun to play, with medium difficulty. Not suited to first timers but for those with a taste for FPS action this has some good elements.

If you can get past the awful animation, Iron Storm might have fared well enough as a multiplayer deathmatch game along the same lines as Medal of Honor. The game is at its best when you're simply running around, shooting vaguely realistic guns at people shooting the same guns back at you. But, without any bot support and much of a multiplayer community, this is just another example of Iron Storm's failure to live up to its potential. What's left is simply a frustrating and tedious single-player game.
