The Atari Times
Bubsy: FFT is not a Jag title that shows off any of the system's great attributes. Die-hard platformer fanatics might find this title to be enjoyable due to the challenge factor and quantity of levels. This title is worth taking a shot at for nostalgia purposes but if you're looking for a quality platformer stick with Rayman and Zool 2!

Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
The talking bobcat is back. Bubsy fans will love this version of the popular character and this one will prove challenging to even the most hardened veterans of the series. The levels are huge, the graphics are very detailed and the sound is equally impressive. Non-Bubsy fans probably won't be converted, but those raised on the feline will obviously take to the character. Just one quibble, though - the control could be tweaked a bit; otherwise it's a fine game.

FLUX
Granted, the Jag's huge color palette and graphic capabilities gives Bubsy and impressively rich look. However, the action is way, way slow and at times so jerky you'll feel like your Jag is on the fritz. And worst of all, one touch of an enemy causes Bubsy to die and start at the beginning of a level. One touch! Lame.

Bubsy offers a muddled mix of good and bad ingredients, but the poor gameplay seals Fractured Furry Tale's fate. Prepare for frustrating and repetitive wandering through Bubsy's Jaguar world. Jaguar owners looking for a good platform game with Bubsy will think that Atari has committed a feline felony.

To call this game frustrating is to give frustrating games a bad name. It just goes to show you that some endangered species deserve to be extinct.

I have nothing against action/platforms (or any other game for that matter), as long as I'm given the impression that someone actually cared about the finished product. But if the market becomes flooded with games like this, we are all in trouble. This is the type of product which spelled disaster for us the first time and I'd hate to see it happen again.

The joypad controls allow you to move Bubsy or make him jump, glide, or look for hazards. Dangerous foes include speedy wasps, army ants, sharks, and a custard pie throwing machine. Jump on them before they touch you and take one of your lives. The game includes a passcode feature that allows you to resume at any level you previously completed.

I remember when Bubsy the cat made his debut on the Genesis in the early 90s. He was billed as the next Sonic the Hedgehog. But there was a problem: Bubsy just wasn't cool. Not only does he look like a total dork, but his irritating digitized voice makes him ever MORE unlikable. This game does have some nice graphics and imaginative background graphics I have to admit. Each level is based on a fairy tale like Alice in Wonderland or Jack and the Beanstalk. The gameplay is less inspired however, with the typical "jump on enemy while collecting objects" action. Bubsy can also glide, but it really doesn't add much to the gameplay. Control isn't bad, but it's difficult to tell what you can or can't touch without getting killed. And unlike Sonic, a single hit will do you in. I wasn't crazy about Bubsy. It's not very fun at all.
