Dark Angel is a good game but it's a bit repetitious. It looks and sounds good, and handles well but there is something missing. The license adds a whole lot to the game, and fans of the show will enjoy this very thoroughly. Gamers though, won't find a whole lot of reasons to invest if they don't like the Dark Angel franchise. The Playstation 2 and Xbox versions are identical so the game can be bought for either console without missing out.

My final thoughts are these, Dark Angel is a good game, it’s not a mindblower and it’s going to appeal to fans of Cameron’s show. But the die-hard fanatics of the PS2 are going to give it a wide berth and wait for Splinter Cell to show up or something else. I can already hear the cries of anger from the DA Fanboys out there and I am prepared to face the wrath of a thousand hells for daring to speak my mind over a game, but there you have it. It’s not exactly my cup of tea and I’m a fan of this kind of genre, still it has enough in it to be entertaining, if somewhat, shallow.

Dark Angel has all the makings of a good game, but somehow manages to fall apart very early. I admit, I was never a huge fan of the show, and maybe true fans will overlook some of the things that I found lacking. For me however, I found myself rather quickly getting tired of the game. If I were not reviewing the title, I would have put it away much sooner than I did.

Overall, Dark Angel could've been a very cool game. The initial premise of the show was a cool one, and one that should've translated over easily. However, repetitive gameplay, poorly balanced game mechanics and a lack of detail hampers this title significantly. If you're a fan of the show, I might suggest a rental to see if you're interested, but otherwise, you'll probably want to pass on this game.

James Cameron has made a career of producing dystopian films, often about the plight of humanity vs. technology or societally discarded heroes and heroines vs. megacorporations. After all, this is the man who wrote the script for Strange Days, introduced quintessential screen heroine Ellen Ripley to a planet full of her worst nightmare in Aliens, and gave us the best example of technology run amok in the seminal Terminator series. Well, Cameron took his dark vision of the future to television in 2000 with his creation of James Cameron’s Dark Angel, a near future post-apocalyptic show set in Seattle. While it managed to develop a rabid fan base, it was cancelled after two short seasons. However, it managed to capture the attention of Radical Entertainment and Sierra, who were in the process of making a game version of the series.

The Fox network may have pulled the plug on James Cameron?s dark futuristic tale of fugitive, genetically enhanced soldiers, but apparently the game must go on. Radical has done an admirable job re-creating the future noir setting of post pulse-Seattle, and the sparse techno soundtrack does emulate the show?s spirit. Fans of the series will be glad to hear Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly reprising their roles as genetic super girl Max and rich, computer savvy activist Logan, respectively.

Dark Angel will not leave a lasting impression on anyone but members of the Jessica Alba "Stalker Club." It's the worst kind of tie-in, combining a feeble license with feeble game design, and expecting gamers to pay $50 for the privilege of suffering through the collective ineptitude.

Dark Angel is an average game all in all that won't really appeal unless you're a fan of the TV show. No one part of the game is particularly outstanding whilst in the same way there's nothing especially poor. The big disappointments come in the shape of repetitive gameplay, poor enemy AI, poor graphics and the fact that you could finish it in a couple of nights play.

James Cameron’s Dark Angel was one of the many new Sierra games I stumbled on at the 2002 E3 show; not that it was hard to miss with a 20-foot poster of the sexy Jessica Alba towering above the booth. Dark Angel was one of my guilty Friday night viewing pleasures, one of those shows you watched religiously but never admitted to it. This short-lived series started off with a great idea and a great directory backing it up, at least for the premier and final episodes. In between, Mr. Cameron merely lent his name to the project, which is probably the only reason this series survived into the second season.

While James Cameron’s Dark Angel came out with good intentions, it has fallen into the failed pattern of the TV series by the same name. There are redeeming qualities to be seen, so if you are a fan then check it out. It may be worth a rental, but it would be difficult to recommend anything other than that.

XboxGame Chronicles
Dark Angel manages to capture the look and style of the show perfectly, or at least the action and fighting aspects of the show. While Max may have only kicked ass for 5-10 minutes in any single episode that is all you will be doing for countless hours in near identical maze-like levels. If the game design were half as inspired as the original source material this would be an amazing title. As it is, we are left with a repetitive fighter that requires more patience than skill. A true love of the show or its leading lady may be the only thing this game has going for it in the end.

This is a brawler. It allegedly has stealth, too, but it’s the most pathetic, poorly done sneaking around I’ve seen. So, we’ll just ignore that claim entirely. Basically, you get spotted by an enemy, engage an entire platoon, find the keycard or other item needed to advance, then repeat. And repeat. Dark Angel’s combat itself isn’t so putrid. Each face button on the controller is used. Grappling is the best offense, but plenty of kicks and punches exist as well. Combos abound. Jumps and first-person shooting of the “stealth gun” are both too buggy to be of use, and the camera is a chore to deal with. Cameos by characters from the series and a decent Jessica Alba model aren’t enough to hook even hardcore fans of the show.

Plenty of cool fighting moves isn’t enough to save Dark Angel from its repetitious and boring cycle of fights and unoriginal design. Action fans take not--this game just doesn’t offer anything close to the excitement of the television show. You might just want to skip this one altogether.

PlayStation 2IGN
When I first saw James Cameron's Dark Angel I was surprised at the flurry of action possibilities laying there right on the surface. I was taken aback by a game based on a cancelled TV show that showed this much vitality and potential. I was genuinely surprised -- most of all because being surprised doesn't happen too often.

XboxIGN
If it's not already abundantly clear, James Cameron's Dark Angel is a game with a good premise and some early indications of decent gameplay, but it also succumbs to a repetitious flow of generic levels, brainless fights and even less intelligent boss battles, all of which become so repetitious and boring it's hurtful to play them. In a time when games of such high production values and great intelligence are hitting the market (Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Metroid Prime and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell) showing what's genuinely in store for the next generation of games, Dark Angel displays all of the charm and intelligence of Fighting Force 2, Frogger or Tomb Raider Chronicles. It's a game you'll quickly forget without much regret.

XboxGameSpot
Finally--not that this is really a complaint considering the quality of the game--Dark Angel can be finished at the default difficulty setting in just an evening of play. All in all, the development of this game probably should have been cancelled at the same time as the television series upon which it was based. Questionable design decisions, terrible implementation, and the apparent lack of faith in a project doomed long before its completion make for a game that is more frustration than fun.

When Radical Entertainment began work on a PlayStation 2 adaptation of the sci-fi television series Dark Angel last year, the show was a hot property. The allure of sultry leading lady Jessica Alba and the presence of James Cameron as producer and cocreator turned it into a pop-culture phenomenon. But it didn't last. The show flared out in record time, vanishing from the airwaves for good last spring after just two seasons in production. Alba moved on to a movie career, and Cameron went back to polishing the Oscars he won for Titanic.

Dark Angel will make a fine rental for hardcore fans of the show. It's got the real actors and the plot mirrors an episode of the show almost exactly. You'll be able to beat it in a weekend, easy. But for everyone else, this game really isn't worth your time sitting there hitting the Punch button just to see what Jessica Alba will eventually say next. This Dark Angel has fallen from grace.

But at least Dark Angel is wrapped up in a nice shiny package with a TV logo on it, right? You play as Max, the sexy heroine of Dark Angel, a show that lasted two seasons before it was cancelled. It has James Cameron's (Titanic, The Terminator) name on it, but I imagine he just sold it to them for some cash. They paid for couple other celebrity names too, because Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly who star in the TV show provide the voices for the characters. A nice touch, but it doesn't make a game.
