Endlich mal was Neues.

Juiced may have been last to market but is by no means in last place. It's no NFS Underground 2 or Midnight Club 3 but it is a worthwhile addition to any racing game fan’s library with its unique features, strong career mode and easy pick up and play engine.

I was really surprised with this race tuning game, "Juiced". While not expecting much and kinda tired of all these tunin' race games lately, Juiced delivered something unique.
It adds features like team racing and tactical crew decision to the already vast array of features for each tuning race game.
With its own graphical style and physics its one of the Top Tuning race games available for XBox and PC ! The sense of speed during the races will knock you out of your drivers seat ! The popossibilityf making your own race events or championships adds a nice value to the tunin' genre. Bottom line, if you like the more 'mature' tune race games then "Juiced" is definitely a game you should consider playing.

Juiced is what I would call a game that came back from the brink of death to actually see it's release. Juiced was actually supposed to be released much earlier this year but a funny thing happened on the way to the store shelf; it's publisher Acclaim suddenly folded it's tent and closed it's doors. The fate of Juiced was in certain limbo. We had what was one of the few remaining "finished" Juiced builds before Acclaim shut down. But the developer, who happened to be named Juice Games, would live on thanks to their game getting picked up by THQ. And so they were able to put a few more finishing touches on Juiced and finally get it out on store shelves.

We have to thank THQ from pulling this franchise from the doomed Acclaim brand because Juiced is a good, fun racing game that has some canny ideas. Although you might be exhausted from Midnight Club 3 and Need for Speed Underground 2 you should still take a moment to check out Juiced.

Juiced is an exponentially better game that it was when I reviewed it many months ago. Does that mean that it's a super awesome, edge of your seat thrill ride? Not so much, but it does have its charms and is a nicely varied street racer. The sensation of speed is here in spades and the Respect and Crew systems have been overhauled to become features that mean something, are easy to understand and are part of the game's liberally applied awards.

There's a lot to like in Juiced. There's an easy-to-manage team racing aspect that allows you to keep a garage full of cars and send other drivers off to events that you don't want to drive personally, and the overall structure of the game is built around a simple-to-understand calendar that lets you easily see everything that are and aren't qualified for. Because of its urban, street culture theme, it is a little stoic and humorless in its presentation, but this doesn't distract from the overall robustness of the experience.

There are more racing games cluttering this generation's library than there are vehicles on LA's 405 freeway at rush hour. Each one tries to reach a different audience, but at the end of the day, there are only so many people who will fork over $50 for another driving game. Juiced faces some stiff competition and tries to muscle into a niche of its own, but while it's a good game, I'm not convinced there's room.

PlayStation 2PSX Extreme
Ultimately, it's impossible to recommend Juiced when games like Burnout 3 and Midnight Club 3 are out there doing everything it does, and more, in much better fashion. That said, it is a decent street racer in its own right.

Overall, this game definitely has the potential to compete with the top street racing games. Technically it's not bad - high frame rates, some excellent rain effects, fast-paced, but the gameplay could have been much better, especially the Career mode which puts too much focus on money, respect, and schedules, and not enough on actual racing.

Juiced has been hard to miss lately, at least on television. The marketing campaign to establish the title as a big hitter in the underground racing franchise was a lot like trying to make Ben Affleck look hardcore in Dare Devil. In fact, it is my belief that publisher THQ spent more money marketing this game than on development (Juiced was let go from bankrupted Acclaim about a year ago). But how does the game play? Underneath the fine coating of media misdirection, Juiced fails in many respects to deliver an innovative design different from the hugely cluttered racing market and even lacks substance as a typical title.

PlayStation 2Worth Playing
The ones airing in the United States are a hoot. They feature a guy in a garage who looks a little too hopped up on some sort of substance, rambling on and on about how he’s built the perfect ride, and he’s only making it better as he goes. He’s using it to race his fastest against some of the toughest street racers in the city, and a split-second can mean the difference between victory, and his ride going home with someone else.

It can be a damn shame when there's something that could've been cool, but with the fickle nature of fate it has been given a metaphorical kick to the curb. That may a bit melodramatic, but it's pretty much what has happened with Juiced. While the game isn't spectacular it would've received a much warmer welcome last year when the game was going to be released by Acclaim. Well, Acclaim bit the dust and THQ has picked up the game, but in the past year other titles have raised the bar and Juiced is looking even worse in comparison.

PlayStation 2GameSpot
THQ's offering to the street racing genre, Juiced, was originally due out last year. The Juice Games-developed racer had initially been picked up under the Acclaim banner, but once Acclaim's bankruptcy became a sudden and immediate situation, Juiced was sold off and subsequently delayed. Thus far Juiced is the only former Acclaim property to get picked up, though after playing it, it's hard to understand what the attraction would have been for any publisher, let alone two different ones over time. Juice Games has certainly made a competent arcade-style street racer, one with a lengthy career mode and online play to boot; but that's all it is: competent. There is nothing exceptionally bad about Juiced's design, nor is there anything laudable about it. It simply exists in an inoffensive and unexciting realm of commonplaceness that makes it incapable of standing out among the pack of infinitely better racers available for any of its chosen platforms.
61
WindowsGameSpot
In the end, it's hard to understand what, if anything, the developers of Juiced did with that extra year between publishers. The whole thing feels antiquated to the point of obsolescence, and the few interesting things the game does to try to set itself apart are counteracted by stupid problems that seem like they could easily have been fixed with just a slightly different design philosophy. As it is, there's no shortage of street racing games on consoles, and even on the PC, where the competition is less of a factor, Juiced does very little to impress. Regardless of your platform of choice, Juiced isn't worth your time.

Juiced isn’t an all together bad game mind you, it’s just that it was a little late to the start of the race. Other games have done this theme already and done it better but even so this isn’t a bad addition to the already flooded genre. Fans of this style of game will definitely want to take it for a spin but those of you who aren’t hardcore about it can just leave this one on the shelf. Some nice graphics and decent sound help out the package and the fresh ideas the game brings to the table are interesting enough. Maybe if there is a Juiced 2 things will look and feel a little more up to date with this series.

Juiced may have suffered one of the most unfortunate delays in videogame history. Originaly due for release by Acclaim towards the tail end of 2004, the game would have compared well to the other games on the market. Need for Speed Underground 2 hadn't yet been released and Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition was many months off. Now, things are different. Midnight Club 3 has taken the street racing genre by the scruff of its neck, and Juiced feels - rather sadly - a year too late.

For people who think putting Jumbo Jet-sized wings on a FWD car makes handling better, Juiced is nitrous fantasy come true. Slap turbos and N2O systems together without fear of blowing your engine. In this simplistic world, the more expensive and powerful, the better. However, annoyingly the game doesn't immediately let you buy whatever upgrade or car you want; instead; through winning races, you gradually unlock more modifications, "Crew" drivers and cars. The forced linearity becomes frustrating as you have to grind through racing events to get the tricked out ride you desire. Earning respect is a hassle, too; opponents often run into you during races, lowering their respect towards you.

Like I initially stated, Juiced plays like a dream when you first take it for a spin. You’ll navigate the menus and career mode calendar and wonder why all games don’t do things like this. You’ll race a few races and feel like the game plays nice and tight. You’ll start slowly upgrading your car and believe that the possibilities are endless. You’ll call your grandmother to tell her how good this game is and then you’ll call your mom and ask her set another place-mat for diner cuz daddy’s got a brand new bag! But the next day, when you pop this one in again after you’ve had time to fantasize about it, you’ll realize just how shallow and disappointing it is. And yes, you’ll wonder what new bread of creature spawned this thing and how you can send it back to its maker pronto? At the very least, give it a rent to see what it’s all about.

Depending on what I am doing, I yearn for any of the more-polished (and more playable) racing titles that it tries to emulate. Juiced's particular mix of sim and arcade racing is best summed up as a failed experiment.

With so many other racing games out there that offer more than Juiced, and more to come in the following months that promise the same, you’d have to be a pretty hard-core racing fan to pick up this game. Across the board all its aspects are pretty average, so whether it’s the customization, the career mode, the visuals or audio presentation, or the actual racing that interests you, there is a racing game out there that will better fulfill you.

WindowsActionTrip
To conclude, Juiced is, in some regards, a decent game but it's not without its faults (some of which are rather major - like the poor driving controls). The problem is that the fun factor is somehow missing from this title, so most of the time I couldn't care less about the outcome of the race as I drove with little or no motivation. The opponents at least put up a decent fight, displaying a solid AI and thus being capable of hitting you or cutting you off. The realism is further emphasized by their ability to make mistakes and follow different strategies, but the AI, sadly, doesn't save the day.
