For a budget game... it's actually quite good! Xbox 360 James Burnside (38)

Clocking in at under five hours, Jurassic: The Hunted comes and goes in the blink of an eye. It packs enough thrills to be worth a rental, but the replay value of this cheesy Dino-slaying extravaganza is limited.

Jurassic is a guilty pleasure of a shooter. It certainly has its issues, particularly with repetitive segments of play and easy encounters which clearly hold it back. However, it's more of a diversionary game that you can play for a few hours and be amused by blasting dinosaurs from one side of the island to the other. In that respect, it does its job adequately.

A two-player co-op mode would be a great addition, as there just isn't enough variety to give this game much replay value. Survivor mode lets you shoot waves of dinos to your heart's content, but you should tire of it after a few hours. It really shouldn't take the average player longer than an afternoon or two to complete the game, which brings me to the dilemma of whether to recommend this game as a purchase or rental. You'll become less bored if you only spend an hour with it each time, but at the same time it's not really worth the full price.

Jurassic is a guilty pleasure of a shooter. It certainly has its issues, particularly with repetitive segments of play and easy encounters which clearly hold it back. It's further complicated by the fact that there's no survivor mode and you fight fewer enemies. However, if you're looking for a mindless amount of fun, it's still a tolerable way to go.

There are times when Jurassic: The Hunted feels like a second-rate shooter, but it did just enough right to hold my attention.

I never thought I'd say this, but Jurassic: The Hunted is a dinosaur game I didn't really enjoy. I've certainly played better shooters, and the mere addition of dinosaurs doesn't amount to much when the vast majority of your opponents are raptors. Add poor production values and some technical shortcomings, and this ends up being one time travel trip to avoid.

Jurassic: The Hunted is a budget title that might only be worth it when it drops to around ten bucks and you have nothing else to do on a rainy day. Besides that, what with all the amazing titles currently available (and more on the immediate horizon), I really can’t see any reason to recommend such a lackluster game. There’s nothing laughably terrible about this effort but just about everything ranges from mediocre to average, which is painfully obvious within the first few minutes of play time. It’s just…so “meh.”

The game has its good points, with the gun selection being pretty decent, and it is always fun fighting dinosaurs, though that’s about it. There are numerous glitches, slowdown during fights is frequent, and there is really not a lot of replay value included outside of possibly the survivor mode. The game is way too short and the story is a mess. With a pretty easy 32 trophies, this should really just be a rental for trophy elitists or dinosaur lovers–er, haters, I suppose.

Those aren’t reasons to celebrate. Jurassic: The Hunted is in all categories a bad game, produced by a developer with a track record of producing bad games. If the developers had put more thought into the level design, gave the players more opportunities to explore, included more dinosaurs and hadn’t taken the plot seriously, it could have been a decent game. Unfortunately, they didn’t do any of these things and instead we got this downright lousy game.
