K. Hawk: Survival Instinct

Op het gebied van graphics en geluid gaat K-Hawk netjes met zijn tijd mee. Veel spectaculairs wordt op dit punt echter niet geboden. Liefhebbers van Metal Gear Solid zullen de titel zien als een bron van herkenning en vertrouwd spelplezier. Exotische vegetatie en ondergrondse bolwerken vormen het decor van tien missies. Dat zijn er weinig, maar er wordt het één en ander goedgemaakt door de grootte van de spelwereld en de vele sneaky stappen die ondernomen moeten worden. Helaas is er geen multiplayer optie beschikbaar.

Some of your missions will have you assassinating key people or planting explosives and demolishing things. All the while trying to remain as covert as possible. My biggest gripe of all is that there are no hand-to-hand options at all. No knife, no punching, kicking, screaming, plain and simple you are just out there with your good looks. For a game that has such a big emphasis on covert ops, I found this to be a bit frustrating. Overall a decent game but could use a tad bit of work…in my opinion.

Good graphics, good sound and voice acting, many stolen ideas (although good ideas) and a terrible AI. Well since Metal Gear Solid 2 isn’t due for release on the PC anytime soon and the Thief games are a little dusted, K. Hawk is a good snack if you are a stealth / action player and don’t own a system besides the PC. But don’t forget – Splinter Cell is on its way...

K.HAWK: Survival Instinct unfortunately doesn’t rely on a whole lot of “instinct” at all. Most of the game is spent working with or exploiting the “rules” of the game universe. The combat AI is totally slanted in favor of the computer making combat futile and frustrating. Of course, if you enjoy sneaking and stealth then this game will be perfect for you. In a world with games like Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell, and the upcoming IGI-2: Covert Strike, this game definitely takes a backseat in technical achievements. Survival Instinct does manage to offer a certain level of fun, it doesn’t require a monster system to play it, and it’s budget priced at $29. I can’t tell you to run right out and buy it, but I won’t tell you not to either.

Ein Display hilft beim Schleichen und verrät die Positionen von Überwachungskameras oder Feinden, sowie deren Blickrichtung und Hörradius. Kommt es zum Schusswechsel, haben Sie sofort eine kleine Gegnerhorde an den Hacken und kaum eine Chance. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad und die ewig gleiche Vorgehensweise zehren schnell an den Nerven.

Well what can I say; the game can certainly use more polishing - more like a proper make-over. Anyhoo, with a poorly balanced AI, laggy camera, and the outdated graphics it's safe to assume that it will be overshadowed with upcoming PC titles like Splinter Cell and Bloodrayne. In a nutshell, K. Hawk: Survival Instinct can be fun for a few hours, until you get terribly annoyed with all of the above-mentioned flaws and glitches. It's good to watch a new and attractive female character in action. But frankly, I'd rather play as a short fat bald guy and fight against lifelike opponents (with believable AI) than as a chick in sexy underwear desperately evading relentless fire from foes with supernatural aiming abilities.

K-Hawk is niet slecht genoeg om het een non-spel te noemen, maar schiet op zoveel fronten tekort dat je al echt een massieve fan van dit genre moet zijn. We kunnen leven met middelmatige grafiek, roestige dialogen en slecht geluid, maar als de gameplay het laat afweten, haken wij ook af...

Those who get to the later stages of the game may also discover some of the most tenuous and confusing missions ever devised. Our eponymous hero will occasionally try to make things more obvious by saying things like: "Oh - that mountain over there looks interesting..." But it doesn't really do much for the game. Wandering from one side of a secret base to another, monotonously switching machinery on and off in the vain hope of making a lift move is clearly not why one becomes a S.E.A.L.

K-Hawk n'a vraiment rien pour lui. Entre son gameplay inexistant et sa réalisation minable, il n'est qu'un sous-Metal Gear Solid avec des arbres tropicaux. A éviter à tout prix. Même sous la menace.

Si le principe est bon, le jeu est mal pensé. Les possibilités offertes par le gameplay sont quasi nulles, et "l'action" manque de rythme. On gère son ennui au gré des promenades des sentinelles qu'il faut éviter, et enfin, lorsque la mort libératrice de l'héroïne survient, on passe vite à autre chose (regarder de vraies filles, par exemple).
