In short, King's Field is a first person action title that adds the strategy, thought, and depth of an RPG. No instant gratification here, but there is something very appealing about a first person game where you can build up your character slowly over time. To arms!
If you have the patience to sit down and play a unique, slow-moving RPG with great ambiance, then I think you will really enjoy King’s Field. Think of it as Morrowind-lite. It doesn’t have the character interaction or depth that Morrowind has, but the fun is in the exploration of a believable fantasy landscape that constantly pulls forth feelings of wonder and awe.
One of the bet 100% polygonal games and a true 3-D RPG, King's Field (actually King's Field 2, 1 was a dog) is a vast puzzling, mysterious and totally addictive experience. I still think the attack mechanism needs some work, but otherwise, I can think of no reason not to run right out and purchase this game. If Might and Magic and similar far make you all warm and fuzzy, King's Field will rock your world.
Overall, King's Field provides the kind of experience you'd expect from a 32-bit game. It's graphical flair and CD quality sound really put you in the world of King's Field. And while KF isn't the best RPG or action game ever, it's a game I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

King's Field is hands down a must -play game for any RPG enthusiast. Some people may comment on the game playing very slowly or being sluggish, but this is one aspect of the game that only adds to the realism. This title has all the great aspects of a true RPG, including items to pick up and equip, but also has an adventure feel to it because of the strategy used in doing battle with the enemies. Do not plan on finishing this one for quite some time. Thumbs up...it's a great game!

All in all, King's Field is a wonderful game. Though the story is a bit iffy at times, the rich 3D role playing experience will keep you hooked from start to finish for quite some time.

When I first started playing this game I could not stand it. My frustration level grew as I was unable to progress through the game at the pace that I wanted to. I would be easily defeated by some of the lesser monsters of the game, but I am glad that I persevered! As your character grows (both in magic and in might) the game becomes more pleasurable and yet still challenging. The shear extent of the game, with its numerous worlds, will hold your interest!
Unfortunately, the game's desire to cross genres also creates its one big flaw. The battle sequences are slow and precise on one hand, yet lack the strategy of most good RPG's. However, it's the exploratory aspects of the game which make it shine, and for this it should be heralded. Highly recommended.
King's Field is a very challenging game that is plagued by ho-hum fighting sequences. If you can get past that part of the game, the adventure portion is excellent. Searching for new items and hidden rooms will take you a long time. This is definitely not a weekend rental and finish. You will find many hours of gameplay and still be finding things you missed on the first pass through the rooms. With a few improvements in the monster battles, this could have been a great game, but it just falls short. The first-person perspective is a fresh take on this type of game, and it is nice to see it used in a different arena than Doom cloning. If King's Field II corrects these problems, it could be a major hit.
King's Field is very challenging, and refuses to be completed in a day, or even a week or a month. This non-linear, immersive adventure role-playing game is filled with elegant scenery, memorable monsters, and many miles of frontier to explore. While King's Field may seem unpleasantly action-oriented to the traditional role-playing gamer, and the avid adventurer might find it sluggish, open-minded gamers should be more than pleased with King's Field's execution - if only because of the sheer size and grandeur of the setting.
If King's Field had been released over a year ago, then more praise would have been heaped highly upon it. As it stands though, this is primitive looking and more than a bit sluggish offer to a PlayStation gamer fresh from Tomb Raider. An average game.
