King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow

This game introduces yet another feature in the series: 3D video animation. And once again Sierra has succeeded in making King's Quest 6 the most beautiful of all the KQ games. The game just begs any gamer to play it over and over again! I even find myself committing suicide just to see the animation in hell, or to see how Alexander dies. It is the ultimate Adventure game!

Once in a great while does a game like Kings Quest 6 come around. A game that, when finished, will leave an emptiness inside of the player. Like a great movie, it immerses one in its plot so perfectly that one will begin believe that s/he is actually in the game. I, the reviewer, personally believe that Kings Quest 6 is the best adventure game Sierra has ever produced, and it would be one of my top candidates for the best adventure game of all time.

Sierra finally gave us the ultimate King’s Quest game, and for that—regardless of what happened next—we adventure game fans owe the Sierra-that-used-to-be a debt of gratitude.

There is so much to do in this chapter of the King's Quest saga and more so because towards the end there are two pathways to your final goal. It's worth playing both of them. I must admit this is one of my favourite King's Quest titles even though it shamelessly exploits the damsel in distress theme.

It has some very good puzzles and problems that are great fun to solve and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for everyone who isn't too 'grown-up' to enjoy it. It's a great title to play along with the kids, don't worry The Land of the Dead is not too horrific and the game is available as part of a compilation of King's Quest Titles which makes it even more inviting.

King's Quest VI is a brilliant conversion on the Amiga. The background graphics are sharp and with animated forest creatures, such as rabbits and birds etc., adding to the ambiance, the game throws up delight after delight. The characters and animations for the main sprites are also spot on. King's Quest VIs control method makes it one of the easiest adventures to play. The sound effects and background music could have been better – they lacked some life, but that shouldn't put you off this princely game.

Många förbättrade detaljer gör spelbarheten betydligt bättre - till exempel slipper man gå längs en slipprig bergsstig och halka ihjäl sig längre, dessutom finns det inte längre några kringstrykande zombier i Dödsriket som det innebar säker död att stöta ihop med.

Subjektiivisesti ottaen King's Quest 6 osoittaa selvää tasonlaskua Sierran kaltaiselta laadukkaalta pelitalolta. Epäloogisia ongelmia ratkottaessa ei kliseiden täyttämää maailmaa kauaa jaksa tarpoa. Tai ehkä en vain ole King's Quest -tyyppiä.

Der erhoffte Überhammer ist King's Quest VI somit nicht geworden, doch in letzter Zeit hat man als Amiga-Abenteurer ja Übung in Sachen Bescheidenheit. Schon wegen des momentan recht dünnen Angebots an solcher Software zählt das Spiel also trotz aller Detailmängel immer noch zur unteren Oberklasse. Die Rätsel, der logische Aufbau und die Atmosphäre gehen schließlich voll in Ordnung; zudem ist das Spieltempo unerwartet flott geraten. Das gilt natürlich vor allem für den HD-Betrieb, aber auch von Disk kommen die Bytes in halbwegs erträglicher Geschwindigkeit angesaust. Die Moral von der Geschicht': Anspielen schadet nicht!

Pretty graphics, and a general hugeness that most other adventures struggle to match. The plot is never actually bad, and often quite good when it puts its mind to it. It is likely to take you several weeks to complete... ..although much of that can be put down to the frustrating obscurity of the puzzles, and the defiance with which the game hides important objects in the scenery and then bombards you with tedious responses when you try to search for them. The script lacks sparkle, too, and could do with some attention from a Lucas Arts defector. And a hard disk is essential. It is another point-and-click adventure, and a big one with a name that should ensure it sells plenty. But you are unlikely ever to actually think, “That is really good, I liked that bit”, while playing it. In fact you are much more likely to be given copious opportunities to growl, “Grr, how irritating”.

It's pretty much an adventure-by-numbers. It's like Monkey Island never happened. It's competent, but is unlikely to appeal to the unconverted.
