Knights of the Temple: Infernal Crusade

Mich hat Knights of the Temple auch sehr schnell mitgerissen. Das liegt vor allem an der düsteren Atmosphäre und der tollen Präsentation. Die dynamische Musik trägt viel zur Stimmung des Titels bei und die Grafik kann, bis auf kleinere Ruckler, ebenfalls überzeugen. Ein Wermutstropfen ist allerdings, dass es keinen Zweispielermodus gibt. Dieser hätte dem Ritterspektakel noch sehr gut zu Gesicht gestanden. Wer auf Hack & Slay steht, sollte zugreifen.

Knights Of The Temple: Infernal Crusade is a bit of a mixed blessing, but a good one for all that. Where it loses out in gameplay due to its repetitiveness, irritating puzzles and odd bouts of exploration, it makes up for it in sheer adrenaline pumping action, with a very smooth and stylish combat system. Where it gains in graphics, be it from the fantastic opponents, incredibly detailed textured landscape and great lighting effects, it loses out a bit in the between level stills. Although I sorely miss a decent multiplayer option on this game I can't help but pick up the controller for yet another attempt at swinging my mighty weapon in an attempt to save my damsel in distress. I know this game may not appeal to fans of other genres but I for one can't help but give it the thumbs up for a great Sunday afternoon button mashing, to play alongside the Errol Flynn swashbuckler that's bound to be showing on Channel Five.

Deshalb kann ich bei einem Hack&Slay-Titel gut auf eine Hirnfolter verzichten. Mir hat Knights of the Temple gerade deshalb so viel Spaß gemacht, weil ich einen Metzgergesellen durch ein schnörkelloses Abenteuer begleiten darf. Der Titel schmeckt sowohl Einsteigern als auch Könnern. 50 Euro für einen Acht-Stunden-Snack sind allerdings gesalzen.

Auch wenn Knights of the Temple vom selben Entwicklerstudio wie Enclave stammt, im selben Genre angesiedelt ist und auch ein wenig so aussieht - die Klasse des kurzweiligen Action-Adventures erreicht es nicht. Warum das Templer-Abenteuer trotz anspruchsvollerer Kämpfe nicht ganz so spannend und abwechslungsreich wie Enclave ist, das erfahren Sie auf diesen Seiten.

Ein Actionspiel ohne Maussteuerung? Ja, aber keine Angst: Tempelritter Paul gehorcht brav den Tastatureingaben. Nur die unübersichtlichen Kameraschwenks bringen den Waffen schwingenden Held in die Bredouille: Wenn ich nicht mehr sehe, wo die Gegner sind, kann ich schlecht koordiniert kämpfen. Davon abgesehen gefällt mir das geradlinige Hack-and-Slay-Spiel, nur ist es viel zu schnell vorbei. Da bleibe ich lieber bei Rückkehr des Königs, das neben der unerreichten Atmospähre auch einen kooperativen Modus hat.

Сырой и недоработанный проект, который можно пройти за несколько часов (и в этом его явный плюс — не успевает опостылеть). Отчасти игру спасают неплохие схватки, но больше KotT ничем не выделяется среди собратьев по жанру, а во многом и вовсе проигрывает им. Лишь отсутствие традиционных недостатков в дизайне уровней и монотонности позволяют рекомендовать ее в качестве развлечения на вечер, если у вас под рукой нет чего-нибудь более интересного.

An enjoyable title that fans of the genre should be interested in; however there's not just enough variety to the game to entice anybody else.

The game, unsurprisingly, is set during the time of the crusades. You take on the role of Paul, a newly anointed Knight Templar and one man crusade by himself. The story revolves around the kidnap of a saintly woman named Adelle (sounding uncannily like Liv Tyler’s Arwen) and a crazed bishop who is determined to unleash Hell on Earth. Although not greatly developed, the story is told through some well acted cut-scenes in which Paul pulls off a permanent haunted look almost as good as Neo’s in The Matrix.

Een eentonig en matig afgewerkt action adventure dat lijdt aan een gebrek aan inspiratie. Het had zoveel meer kunnen (moeten!) zijn.

Hack & Slash is een zeer kwetsbaar genre wat helaas nog steeds gebukt gaat onder een herhalende gameplay. Ook Knights of the Temple vormt hierop geen uitzondering. Dit eendimensionale karakter kan ook best vermakelijk zijn, maar een game als Severance: Blade of Darkness heeft al bewezen dat er veel meer uit het genre te halen valt. Verder is Knights of the Temple opvallend gewelddadig, maar dat is juist de kracht. en mede doordat de Middeleeuwen nu eenmaal een zeer gewelddadige periode vormden, bijen een vereiste. Hoort de game thuis aan de bovenkant van het genre? Nee, daarvoor is Knights of the Temple te oppervlakkig. Hoe vreemd dit ook mag klinken in de context van het genre.

KotT main story mode climaxes with a disappointingly predictable, multi-wave boss battle that will drive you mad (if you're anything like me), and only serves to highlight the flaws in the combat system that are apparent from the beginning. The game always looks nice (considering the settings), with detailed textures, a few spectacular enemies and some breakable scenery as well, but the ancient-feeling, restrictive nature of the game and some dumbassed cameras are always present to stop it from ever becoming too enjoyable. All a bit of a shame really, as the game promised much but never got out of second gear. Knights of the Temple commits a cardinal gaming sin: not being as good as its predecessor - so roll on Starbreeze's next effort, you know it's going to be good looking, so let's hope they remember the gameplay next time.

Knights of the Temple est un beat'em all au sens strict du terme. Les combats s'enchaînent donc frénétiquement. Hélas, les coups disponibles ne sont pas assez nombreux et le jeu n'est pas assez varié pour soutenir la comparaison avec les ténors du genre (Le Retour du Roi en tête). Mais force est de constater qu'on passe quand même un bon moment à trucider tout ce qui bouge dans cette ambiance moyenâgeuse sombre très bien rendue.

If you're really curious, just visit the local video shop and rent the damn thing. But please, don't throw your money away. It's just not worth it.

Pas trop laide mais pénible à manipuler et bien trop répétitive, cette croisade infernale vous invite à huit heures de bagarre sans éclat ni imagination. Peu dynamiques, les combats sont le point le plus faible d'un jeu à la réalisation inégale et à la maniabilité douteuse.
