The game's exotic music soundtrack is understated but effective, and the dialogue is outstanding. Unlike the mindless drivel of most games, Legend features first-rate voice acting with clever banter between Lara and her cohorts. I actually cracked up a few times listening to some of more funny lines. The game runs about 10-12 hours, which is long enough to get your money's worth, but short enough that you can actually finish the thing (people with real jobs know what I mean). Polished, fun, and madly addictive, Legend is easily the most satisfying Tomb Raider game since the series debut on the Playstation in 1996.

Everything in the game is well thought out and superbly executed, especially the puzzles; I really enjoyed the plot, the humour, the gameplay and the graphics – basically I had fun the entire eight and a half hours that I was playing Legend.

Lara Croft and I go way back…all the way to the beginning…all the way back to 1996 when she debuted in her first PC title that redefined the action-adventure genre. I was there for the 3DFX remake and all the expansion packs and sequels since then. I’ve written strategy guides for all of her adventures (except Angel of Darkness) that have been used a combined 50 million times around the world. In fact, my original Tomb Raider guide was what inspired Sinjin Solves and eventually Game Chronicles Magazine. So you could say, Lara Croft is responsible for the site you are visiting today.

Muahahaha!

After unfulfilled promises with Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness and the state of the franchise after its release, it was hard to trust Eidos when they said the next Tomb Raider would correct the mistakes of the past by being developed by the talented folks at Crystal Dynamics. Usually taking a franchise away from its creators is not a good thing but in this case it was the best thing to ever happen to the franchise. Lara Croft is back and better then ever before. Tomb Raider Legend makes up for the past failures and pushes the franchise into the 21st century and into the right direction. The title feels like a true evolution of the original formula and brings back everything that made the franchise great in the first place.

In closing, Tomb Raider: Legend is an excellent adventure game. It's a game I wouldn't think twice about purchasing, so if you're into games like Prince of Persia, be sure to pick this one up. You won't regret it.

Tomb Raider: Legend is the definitive sequel/prequel/quadquel to the Tomb Raider series. It's hard to imagine where it can go from here. The problem facing the glut of sequels from the original game, which debuted some 10 years ago, was that this was a hard act to follow. Some games just say everything that they have to say within a sequel or two - if they are lucky. Some developers continue to milk their cash cow until it yields nothing but dry powder - in the case of the Tomb Raider sequels, enough powder to create a desert.

In some circles, Tomb Raider has become a joke. What was once a prized and praised franchise in its early years now evokes healthy skepticism, even from some of its fans. Thankfully, Lara's latest adventure is in good shape to reset perceptions for those still willing to give her a chance. Sporting a totally redesigned control scheme, for the first time a Tomb Raider game feels natural and intuitive. Even more importantly, this newest entry in the series brings back the adventure and awe that made those early games so exciting. Tomb raiding is fun again.

Tomb Raider Legend is a shot in the bullseye. The makers succeeded to completely bring the original gamepay up to date, refresh it and add a ton of variation to it. Eventhough this killed off lone and long explorations, you constantly get clues through your headset from a colleague, these decisions made that Lara is completely back.

Fans of the Tomb Raider series will definitely not be disappointed, with Legends going back to the roots of the classic Tomb Raiders. The story is a bit on the short side, but the number of secrets and hidden items will have you going back to try and explore every last inch of the levels. Put simply, Tomb Raider: Legend is a fun game with a very high level of polish but not a great deal of depth. It’ll cast its spell on you early with its beautiful visuals and agile main character, and it’s a fantastic experience while it lasts, which isn’t nearly long enough. That said, I wouldn’t worry about the future of the franchise, as this title puts it back on the map in force. Eidos would be wise to devote quite a bit of cash for the sequel, because with Crystal Dynamics, it’s in good hands. 8.5/10

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend is not only a return to the classic form we have all loved from the beginning but it’s also a much deeper adventure that is engrossing from start to finish. While there are some small sore spots here and there, Legend succeeds where Angel of Darkness has failed. With gorgeous visuals, plenty of extras, a solid story and interesting new features, this is a Tomb Raider long-time fans of the old girl will certainly enjoy.

I mają rację.

It’s been ten years since globetrotting Lara Croft vaulted into the gaming world with a resounding bang. Saddling the curvature to bring men to their knees with brains, determination and a penchant for the daring has endeared the back-pack-adorned Brit to the hearts of many. In fact, it’s likely down to the immense popularity of Ms. Croft that the Tomb Raider games have remained a gem in the public’s eye for so very long.

Over the past few years, Lara Croft went from the gaming equivalent of the girl that every guy wanted to date to the one that people avoided because of her bad reputation. Fortunately, Tomb Raider: Legend was a return to form, as the console game focused on what people originally loved about the series. Sticking as closely as possible to the console template, the PSP version of Legend is nearly as successful, with only a few expected concessions to make it function on the handheld.

The way games evolved in the past ten years seems to have left the Tomb Raider series in a dusty corner. The frustrating controls and a camera view meant to drive you nuts, which could be excused in the fist games of the franchise, ended up dragging down the quality of the Tomb Raider games which appeared later - until now! Tomb Raider: Legend finally helps Lara Croft step into the XXI century, crushing her enemies and getting her hands on all sorts of artefacts, like in good old times.

Nearly 10 years ago a little-known British developer crafted a title whose impact on the videogame world would be massive and permanent. Tomb Raider starring Lara Croft graced game systems in November 1996. Within a year, the sexy, smart and sassy heroine would go on to become world-famous for her voluptuous build, can-do attitude, and endless mass market appeal. Along with Shigeru Miyamoto's brilliant Super Mario 64, the first Tomb Raider illuminated new corridors in 3D game development, showing fresh possibilities in character and game design, 3D control, and camera work.

Podsumowując, Tomb Raider Legend to absolutny “must have” dla każdego fana Tomb Raider’a.

Control wise, it’s out with the old and in with the new…sort of. The clunky controls that were so limiting in previous Tomb Raider efforts have been replaced with a more free form mechanic. It’s not completely open-ended, as the geometry and level design ultimately determines exactly where Lara can explore. Those familiar with Legacy of Kain: Defiance will immediately notice how similar both games feel.

She's been on the cover of the late great Face magazine (where she was compared to Pamela Anderson and Yoda), the subject of numerous feminist academic research papers and she's been described as both a cultural icon and 'one of the most fascinating and enigmatic figures of our time' (by the developers of course). She's starred in a couple of ropey films and been used to sell everything from Lucozade to AT&T mobiles. The trouble is, when you start concentrating on extra-curricular activities like this, your day job suffers and one of the things that made her famous - the Tomb Raider games - have now made her a laughing stock.

Tomb Raider Legend is really a great example of a series gone right. While you'd think the Tomb Raider style of gameplay would have expired by now, Legend really rejuvenates the series back into the realms of play-ability. You can expect to see the same classic mixture of puzzle solving and action, but with a nice degree of environmental interaction thrown in as well, all played out in a brand new engine with settings and locations that are rendered in stunning detail to say the least. Some games suffer with a new engine, but Legend really, really excels.

In summing up Tomb Raider: Legends has ticked all the boxes in my book and Lara certainly is back at her best. Slight camera controls mar the experience and can leave you falling to your death because you had got the jump wrong, the motorbike levels could have been left out and the swimming could have been done better - but all in all putting the niggles to one side; Legends is an amazing game to play and you really do need to see it to believe it. When Eidos announced they were taking Lara away from her creators at Core, it smacked of a desperate, last-ditch attempt to get a bit more mileage out of the publisher’s only true cash cow. But then Crystal Dynamics goes and creates a game that arguably exceeds the quality of the original Tomb Raider, and all of a sudden we have a viable series on our hands. Fans should be ecstatic over Tomb Raider Legend. Hopefully this time around, Eidos won’t sacrifice quality for yearly sequels.

Tomb Raider Legend marks a return to form for the series and it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that it is the best in the entire series. Still, some aspects are scuffed up enough that it is quite as legendary as it could be and I'm not yet convinced that Lara is a truly compelling character. She's more appealing than before, but she has an odd choice of friends (a point that serves as crux for the story, but makes it kind of cheesy at the same time) and the game's a lot more fun when it's focusing on the history and myth than her own personal saga. Legend is recommended to people who like to adventure and explore in the vein of similar titles like the recent Prince of Persia trilogy or ICO/Shadow of the Colossus.

If you've been pining for a good adventure, Tomb Raider: Legend is waiting for you. The cliffhanger story is well put together. The action is simple and effective. Tomb Raider: Legend is pretty short and not terribly deep so you could finish everything in a weekend, but it's certainly a great return to form for Lady Croft and a satisfying adventure for both the series faithful and noobs alike. The bottom line for Tomb Raider: Legend is that it accomplishes its goals thoroughly and masterfully. Every second of this game screams skillful design and the result is a liberating game world that feels open and responsive. Nearly every object in the game reacts to Lara's influence, and this applies to the gamer holding the control pad as well (seriously, don't play with a keyboard if you can avoid it). It's impossible to play this game and not fall under its tempting spell.

It ends rather too soon, but it’s a testament to the overall quality that you’re left wanting more; this irresistible bit of fluff proving disposable but very enjoyable. If there’s one thing you’ll take from Legend, it’s the timely comeback of a gaming icon. Croft’s latest may not be as legendary as the title suggests, but once the charismatic heroine gets going, with that trademark wiggle and a way with a withering putdown, you’ll more than welcome her return. It’s oddly fitting that, in digging through Lara’s past, Eidos might just have safeguarded her future.

Lara herself looks as curvaceous as ever, if a bit more realistically proportioned. Judging by looks alone, she's gone from a mighty 36 DD to a more conservative 34 D. Her character is also decked out in some pretty snazzy duds (dig the tiny creases and folds in her short-shorts) but it's unlikely you'll be looking too closely at her wardrobe as she bends and flexes and bounces. One other detail we liked was the way her skin glistened after she climbed out of water. Subtle, tactile details like these give Lara's character more life and vitality than she's had in earlier games.

In the series' early titles, Lara spent a good deal of time sliding enormous square boxes around in an attempt to find the hidden switch that magically opened a far away door. Thankfully, those days are behind us, and we're instead treated to some puzzles and intricate contraptions that would make Rube Goldberg sit up and take notice. The game features a pretty robust physics engine, which allowed the developers to create some puzzles that don't have obvious solutions. You'll have to throw your memories of the previous games out the window, as you can now flip metal boxes through the air, push boulders off of cliffs, and float on coffins. While the puzzles are far from unfair, there are quite a few "Duh, why didn't I think of that in the first place?" moments to keep you humble.

The last time Lara Croft was in a game worth playing, Final Fantasy VII had the hottest graphics ever, no one was entirely sure if Zelda would work in 3D, and only a handful of NES vets had any clue who Solid Snake was. Nine years is a long, long time in videogames -- the difference between the NES's heyday and the Dreamcast's launch, to give one example -- so it's pretty easy to understand why the Tomb Raider series entered the year 2006 as more of an irrelevant footnote in history than a cherished classic.

Perhaps the most welcome surprise about Legend comes in the form of its simple, fluid control scheme. Lara's never felt this nimble, responsive, and acrobatic before... though lining up the trickiest jumps can be a trial-and-error process. While Lara's repertoire of jumps and flips is bigger than ever, Legend wisely uses just a few buttons on the controller. Novices will love the gentle learning curve, and experts will find a challenge in tracking down all the hidden relics. The unlockable content at Croft Manor is a nice touch, too, giving you a reason to race through the levels as quickly and perfectly as possible.

The game kicks off with a bit of an introduction to Lara's tomb-raiding roots. The plane carrying young Lara and her mother crashes in Nepal, and it's not long before the girl has stumbled upon an ancient sword lodged in a stone. I don't want to ruin the story for you, as it's likely the most coherent and enjoyable of the franchise. There are a number of cutscenes, although most of the exposition is handled by Zip and Alister, the two men who feed Lara information through her headset. The story takes the player all over the world, from the jungles of Bolivia and the frozen wastelands of Kazakhstan to the ruins of an English amusement park and a high-tech high-rise in Japan.

If you've read our review of the home console versions of Tomb Raider Legend, then essentially you should know what to expect from the PSP version.

Graphically there are very few differences between the PS2 and PSP versions of the game. The resolution is naturally lower and the frame-rate occasionally slips in graphically intense areas, but overall it is a testament to the little handheld's technological muscle that it can keep up with its big brother, the PS2.

Yes, Tomb Raider: Legend restores the franchise to playable, enjoyable form, but for fans of the original, this romp is more like watching a new Tomb Raider movie than partaking in a classic Croft adventure.

Tomb Raider: Legend is a good return to the roots of the series. The fact that there isn't much in the way of competition on the GameCube, and that the game is selling for a somewhat reduced price, makes it all the more appealing. It doesn't do anything new or different, but it has a great blend of action and adventure that will always keep you moving and interested. The problem is that it moves a bit too fast, and it's all over way too soon.

It's been almost 10 years since the first Tomb Raider was released, and while video games have come a long way since then, the Tomb Raider series hasn't kept pace. Problems such as clunky controls and a frustrating camera, which were excusable in the early games, have steadily degraded the quality of the series releases over time. The latest installment, Tomb Raider: Legend, finally brings the series into the 21st Century while staying true to the adventurous spirit of the early games.

While Tomb Raider: Legend doesn't manage to quite make it to the upper echelon of the current crop of action-adventure titles out there today, it's definitely a step in the right direction for the franchise. Hopefully now that Crystal Dynamics has overcome the major hurdles the franchise has faced, namely clunky controls and boring and rather frustrating combat, they'll be able to focus more on innovation and story on the next outing after Anniversary hits later this Fall. Hopefully next time they spring for a next-gen engine as well. Imagine Tomb Raider with UE3 graphics...

Videogame fans had almost given up hope. After a string of lackluster sequels, it seemed like the Tomb Raider series had caved in on itself. There it sat, buried underneath layers of mediocrity. It almost became like one of its own fabled artifacts - something you might see, someday, if fate decided to bless you with a little luck.

With all of that aside though, it was still fun. It's a good sign that the series is back on track. Old Tomb Raider fans will definitely appreciate what Legend brings back to the table, but there are still a number of problems.

It's a fact; Lara has made a successful comeback in Tomb Raider: Legends. This multi-platform adventure from the most popular lady in gaming is like you remember your Lara. Tomb Raider Legends is a good game worth your investment of time, although I would weigh the option of renting over buying mainly because of the games length. I feel the Tomb Raider series is back on track and I'm already anticipating the return of a clearly focused next generation Tomb Raider game.

It has been a few rough years for Lara Croft and the Tomb Raider franchise. After opening the series with two stellar titles in the late '90s, the three that followed were little more than assembly-line rehashes, each less interesting and impressive than its predecessor. Still, expectations were fairly high for the first next-generation version of the series, 2003's Angel of Darkness. Upon release, it was panned by the press and gamers alike, ending up as one of the biggest disappointments of the last few years. By that point, you couldn't blame someone for having given up on the series.

Folk might've done a lot of standing around at E3, but the queues were nothing next to the ranks of hacks lining the internet earlier this year waiting to have a pop at Tomb Raider. Who could forget Angel of Darkness, after all?

Earlier this year, gamers (and, we're assuming, Eidos executives) rejoiced as gaming's first lady made a triumphant return to the small screen. Tomb Raider: Legend marked Lara Croft's first videogame adventure in three long years, and longtime fans were happy to see that developer Crystal Dynamics wasn't afraid to take the series in a more adventurous new direction. After Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness nearly buried the franchise forever by focusing more on urban environments than dank temples, we were all ecstatic to see Lara heading back into the tombs for Legend. Now, Eidos is bringing the game to the PSP, and while it features the same great story and action found in the console game, it's not without its issues, many of them due to the hardware's limitations. Still, if you didn't play the game earlier this year, this is a must-play for fans of the buxom brunette.

The Tomb Raider franchise was a big deal to a few gamers once upon a time, Lara hit the consoles and Tomb Raider was a success. Then came hollywood with Angelina Jolie leading the role of Lara Croft its was hard not to notice Lady Croft. Then tragic events struck, we call this Angel of Darkness! Luckily times are changing and Tomb Raider: Legend has to gain its fan base back. Lara Croft is back and we are treated to the old Lara in an adventure that would make Indiana Jones envious.

Despite her legacy being sullied by some questionable installments of the series that brought her into being, Lara Croft is certainly a legendary gaming icon. As such, it's a good thing that the appropriately titled Tomb Raider: Legend turned out as it did. Things have changed a lot since the series was birthed in 1996, and what the original developers at Core seemed unable (or unwilling) to realize in the more recent Tomb Raider installments, Crystal Dynamics has delivered with aplomb. Tomb Raider: Legend represents Lara Croft's first solid foray into modern gaming, and has made the series relevant again.

I don’t want to be too harsh on Tomb Raider: Legend, because it really is a fun game with its own distinctive personality, and I’d even go so far as to call it good. If you’re a big Tomb Raider fans, congrats! This is what you have been waiting for. For the rest of us, though? Its brevity, motorcycle segments, repetitive combat, and silly story keep it from being among the upper tier of adventure games. It’s above average, it’s good, but it’s something I would at the very least give a rent before buying. I take that back, renting it would let you see everything the game can offer you anyway.

Having never been a huge fan of the Tomb Raider series, this installment came as a pleasant surprise. After the abysmal Angel of Darkness, I thought for sure that this series was done for. Thanks to the hiring of Crystal Dynamics, however, Eidos has resurrected the series and presented gamers with its best title yet.

Laura Croft sure has it rough. Not only is she tasked with bringing back a franchise that could arguably be said has become outdated and unoriginal, but she has to do it all while avoiding using her biggest "assets" as the main attraction. Even with such a tough job, she did great with the release of Tomb Raider: Legends on home consoles, proving that a fresh approach, good graphics, and improved controls can make a world of difference.

Lara Croft made a triumphant return in early 2006 with the release of Tomb Raider: Legend for home consoles and the PC. But that's not enough for Lady Croft, as now she's making her debut on the PlayStation Portable. The game is essentially the same on the PSP as it was on the consoles, so if you've played it before then you can expect to visit the same levels and solve the same puzzles all over again. Unfortunately, the biggest difference between the PSP version and the others is also its biggest downfall, and that is the often cumbersome, imprecise, and downright frustrating control. But if you can learn to live with the control, you'll find that Tomb Raider: Legend is a mostly competent action adventure with more than a few enjoyable and exciting moments.

Tomb Raider: Legend is an amazing game. In a single move, Crystal Dynamics overwrote the mistakes of the past couple games and took things back to the roots of the series without abandoning the newer elements that kept it from all being a rehash. Moreover, they made Lara more than just a very agile set of boobs and gave her a personality, made her worldly, made her sophisticated and, for perhaps the first time, made her seem real.

Aside from the control problems and some occasional frame rate dips, it's hard to knock this portable effort. After all, this is a brilliant video game. It's one that simply requires a proper control set up, and this system cannot make the accommodations. If it's the only possible way to experience this one, then it's worth picking up. If you have other means, this will only ruin the proper versions.
