The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has never been anything but one of the top video games of all time, and its latest, enhanced version is nothing short of perfect. For years to come and then some, it will continue to remain one of my all-time favorite adventures, and unless someone puts a couple of gun barrels to my head, my opinions won't be swayed. If you don't already own Zelda DX, there's no reason from this point on that you shouldn't. So hop in your car and step on the gas, 'cause the best Game Boy game of all time has been for sale for quite some time, and you're missing out on oceans of fun.

Since a lot of you may have been shocked (even I was) when you saw my "Sound" rating of 50%, I'll explain it. Had I reviewed the original one, I would have given it a much, much better grade. But to put it bluntly, the Game Boy Color's sound is horrible. First off, to turn it up you switch down; to turn it down, you switch it up. Second off, when you switch it all the way down (which turns it up), it sounds like only 40% of the original Game Boy's sound (Nintendo used a much smaller speaker for this model). Thanks for reading.

In the end, though, such complaints are more the fault of the system than the developers. And when it comes to what the developers packed into this cartridge, well, it's nothing short of spectacular. Thank goodness Link doesn't learn his lesson and keeps venturing out to find adventure. It keeps us couch gamers entertained!

Though Link's Awakening DX is an old wine in a new bottle (and a paint job to boot), there's no denying that this is one of the most enjoyable and tightly designed action-RPGs on any console. If you've finally splurged for a Game Boy Color, then this is the perfect game to accompany it.

Basically it comes down to this. If you already played Link’s Awakening, don’t bother with Zelda DX. The changes that have been made definitely don’t warrant purchase. But if you haven’t played this superb game before, go get it. I, for one, am happy Nintendo decided to revamp this one.

The beauty of Zelda is that it makes the scary world of console RPGs easily accessible for anyone, blending action, adventure, and good old-fashioned gameplay into one seamless package. It's definitely one of the best Game Boy games ever, and it looks better than ever. We can't urge you enough to play this game.

Zelda: Link's Awakening DX is a fun and entertaining adventure. Fans of the previous three Zelda games will find that this game provides yet another fine set of dungeons, battles, and secrets to find. The portability makes it a great game to play when you're away from your TV, computer, and consoles. It's well worth its $30 price tag, and will be even better deal when it is inevitably re-released as a $20 "Player's Choice Million Seller".
