Despite a few minor flaws, Legion brings some fresh ideas to the table and executes them well. Winning or losing a battle in the setup phases can be a difficult concept for some armchair generals, but it causes you to think in a deeper way than most strategy games. Legion is also almost infinitely re-playable given that you can try different maps again and command other nations, and because of the variety and types of units available. With a little practice, you will be coming, seeing and conquering in no time.

Ein bisschen Caesar, ein bisschen Hannibal, ein bisschen Imperialismus, ein bisschen Heroes of Might & Magic - die Entwickler von Legion haben sich bei so vielen Strategie-Klassikern bedient, dass Genre-Veteranen garantiert feuchte Augen bekommen. Nicht nur, weil das Runden-Strategiespiel aussieht, als wäre es vor fünf Jahren programmiert worden. Sondern vor allem auch, weil es sich genauso simpel-schön spielt wie jene Oldies. Je nach Szenario (inklusive Tutorial stehen sechs Kampagnen zur Auswahl) übernehmen Sie einen Stamm im antiken England, Frankreich oder Italien, und müssen versuchen, Ihren Machtbereich mit Diplomatie und militärischen Mitteln auszuweiten.

What could I conclude? Legion has its downsides, especially graphics-wise. Still, this is a turn-based strategy meant for a specific crowd of gamers. The overly simplified micro-management makes you think that the developers wanted to focus on the combat only. On the other hand, I have to admit that this simplicity also makes it highly playable... I simply couldn't stop playing it until I conquered Britain, and that took me some time. This is an altogether interesting game meant for all the strategy fans who are not too much into verisimilitude. You just have to relax, build your forces and charge!

Legion est certainement un jeu qui va diviser les foules. Certains vont adorer son gameplay un peu simpliste, un peu tordu (une petite frange de joueurs) pendant que les autres le trouveront justement trop simple et lui reprocheront son système de combat beaucoup trop « Aléa Jacta Est » et n'offrant pas assez de maîtrise de la situation. On reste sur sa faim à plusieurs points de vue et le bilan est finalement mitigé.

Sorti aux Etats-Unis en Juin, Legion ne sera dans nos bacs qu'en Septembre. (l'éditeur pour la France étant Nobilis et non Strategy First). Il se peut donc qu'il y ait quelques changements pour la version française.

Un jeu agréable quelques heures mais qui lasse vite par son austérité et le manque de possibiltés en matière de gestion et de diplomatie. Cependant, les campagnes sont assez longues et le joueur qui décide de s'investir dans le jeu devrait y trouver son compte. A réserver aux férus du genre donc !

Legion is the latest gaming foray into the classical civilization that gave us Julius Caesar and Caligula. This strategy game from Paradox Entertainment and Slitherine Software looks at early Roman history, featuring on four campaigns that focus on the conquest of Italy and expansion into Gaul and Britain. It features a real-time battlefield with 22 different units representing Rome and numerous barbarian tribes, epic gameplay with more than 20 AI factions competing with you for dominance of the map, and an economic model where you gather resources and build an empire. So, on paper, there's a lot to Legion. Yet once you start playing it, Legion seems stripped down.

Legion est le jeu de stratégie idéal pour tout débutant s'essayant pour la première fois à ce genre. Les animations sont aussi réussies que le graphisme, et l'interface de l'ensemble permet une prise en main très rapide du jeu. Pour ceux qui rêvaient de voir une ultime simulation des campagnes romaines, ce jeu ne leur apportera rien. Legion s'apparente plus à un tutorial qui possède au moins le mérite d'amener les joueurs débutants vers des produits plus élaborés.
