This game was incredibly well polished, even if it is very simple, and well worth $30. Anyone who loves Star Wars or LEGOs should have fun with it, and it is simple enough for younger kids to play with a little help from a player two parent.

In short, LSW is a simple game for children, done exceptionally well. It looks, well, great, if you consider a Lego world a thing of beauty (I do). The game play is simple, unlike the Bionicle game (which I hated), and the controls translate to the Mac keyboard rather well. Adults will find it a pleasant diversion, and kids will eat it up like non-toxic plastic injected with FD&C Yellow #5.

Anyone who's even remotely interested in Star Wars (or LEGO, for the matter) owes it to themselves to give this game a try. It's definitely not a serious look in to the franchise, but this game has been marinating in fun for months, and the goodness has soaked all the way in. If you don't break into a big, dopey grin while running around shattering LEGO Battle Droids into their component parts, then you should just put videogames down for good -- you've outgrown them. Now, let's start hoping that we seen a LEGO game based on the classic Star Wars trilogy in the future. I want to fight a big, blocky Rancor!

That's what LEGO Star Wars is all about: a great time. Whether it's the nostalgia or the cuteness that hooks you in, the gameplay makes it worth sticking around. SO many games take themselves too seriously and forget about the fun; that's not a problem here. Heck, in a perfect world, we'd love to see this concept taken to other franchises like The Matrix, Spider-Man or Lord of the Rings. You're best sticking with the console versions of the title, but if you're packing a couple of gamepads, the PC version is almost certain to please.

So there you have it. If your kids are into Star Wars this game will provide hours of entertainment with out the frustration of trying to get through stages. And once they go to bed, the adults can have fun with the game as well.

Despite its short length and simplistic controls, Lego Star Wars is one of the most enjoyable games I?ve picked up in quite a while. Although I was able to waltz through the entire game over a weekend, I still haven?t collected 100% of everything in the game. I highly recommend Lego Star Wars to all fans (however remote) of Legos, Star Wars, or platformers in general.

While a very short game (I made it through the 6 levels of episode 1 in around 2 hours, including some redo's on the pod racing level), it's one that could easily be picked up and played at any time. Once the story mode on a level is unlocked, it opens up that level to free play mode, which lets you take any of the unlocked characters through the level sometimes allowing alternate paths to be taken, thanks to the different abilities characters have.

I found nothing at all offensive about this game. There is violence, but it's not real. Lego people killing other Lego people doesn't bother me. When characters lose all their health, they will die and fall apart, their Lego pieces flying everywhere. The pieces disappear within five seconds.

This May will mark the end of the second trilogy in the Star Wars franchise. As the premiere quickly approaches, a few new Star Wars games are being released to drive the hype. One of the first games to be released is Lego Star Wars: The Video Game. This little hidden gem is not only a throwback to the 16-bit days of arcade action, it is one of the more creative creations in recent videogame history.

GameCubeNintendoWorldReport (Feb 19, 2006)
Overall, the faults of Lego Star Wars can be forgiven just to play as a Lego General Grievious swinging four lightsabers, or as Yoda bouncing around, or as Chewbacca. The game can be forgiven because it is willing to make fun of the plot and style of the new Star Wars trilogy, while accepting it as a part of the canon. It is an excellent example of why a reviewer cannot look at a game as a sum of its parts and round the scores off accordingly; the total event must be in view, and in this case it is one worth experiencing.

I might as well start out by saying that this game left my lowered expectations in the dust. The overall presentation is one hundred percent class. From the detailed levels taken from locations in Episodes I, II, and III, to the LEGO representations of favorite characters and vehicles, to the sound and music taken directly from the Star Wars movies, this game's production values are up there with the very best of them. It's hard not to be enthralled with this game from beginning to end.

The biggest gripe against the game is that, single-player or not, doing absolutely everything in the game won’t take many gamers long at all. LEGO Star Wars is easy, make no mistake about it, but the time that is invested will result in some of the best gaming fun you’ll have had in a long time.

PlayStation 2PSX Extreme (Apr 13, 2005)
Sure, LEGO Star Wars is easy. Sure, it looks like a game for kids. These things are undeniable; however, what else is undeniable is just how much fun that playing this game is, despite its appearance. The game's limited difficulty also makes it all the easier to go back and replay your favorite stages and find enough Lego studs to unlock your favorite characters to play with. There are also other secrets that the game has to offer for thorough players and the ability to play with a friend. It's a deceptively deep game in terms of replay value. My only advice—and I cannot be clear enough on this—is to understand that Episode III is playable and there indeed are a few spoilers that could detract from the experience when you go to see Revenge of the Sith in May. I only say this because, if you're interested in this game at all and reading this review, you've already got plans for opening night. Right?

So, whilst clearly aimed at younger gamers, Lego Star Wars is definitely worth checking out if you're either a Star Wars or Lego fan, and if you're in a similar boat to me, it's essential that you at least rent it. And, if you're constantly troubled by what to buy for your own younglings, look no further; this is the perfect thing for them to enjoy after school, and for you to enjoy by night. Best of all? You can plug in a second pad and join in at any time, using Force powers in tandem to complete puzzles, tackling Darth Maul as a team, and taking Dooku now! to withering effect. If you're a Star Wars fan wondering where the magic went, look no further.

A bon entendeur !

If you grew up a fan of the Star Wars movies, here's your chance to share the sci-fi fun with your child. The characters, spaceships, structures, and other aspects of this game are designed Lego style, giving Lego Star Wars a cartoony feel. Your child needs nimble fingers to control the characters - our testers were a bit confused at first about how to use the buttons to get their character to do anything. But they got it after a few minutes of practice. At that point, it was hard to keep them from playing through all of Episodes I, II, and III of the Star Wars saga.

All said, Lego Star Wars is one of the best games in the history of the license. True, it's geared at children, but for fans of the movies and non-fans alike, this is a truly remarkable effort at recreating the Star Wars prequels. It mixes fun light-saber action with inviting characters, interactive vibrant environments and comes packaged with some of the best Star Wars music ever made. If you come into this game with an open mind, you'll leave with a satisfied heart. At this budget price, there's no way you can go wrong with Lego Star Wars.

For once I can fully endorse a film tie-in game. This is how it should be done guys! It has everything a family-oriented title needs: it has personality, puzzles, cooperative modes, replay value, low violence, a lack of frustrating difficulty, and most importantly, it has Darth Vader. And that's what makes it enjoyable for adults too, because let's face it; Darth Vader makes everything better -- it's a fact.

Despite how cool I thought the concept behind LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game might have been, I never figured that the finished product would hold up as well as it has. In fact, I'm ashamed to admit that I'd almost written it off as the next Haven or Chaos Legion -- or to put it more specifically, one of those kinds of titles that came across great on paper, but not in real life. Then I played it (and played it, and played it some more) and before long I'd realized just how big of a mistake I almost made. LEGO Star Wars is surprisingly good.

So you’re counting down the days before Episode III hits theaters, eh? Well, allow Legos Star Wars to whet your appetite until that day comes. This certainly isn’t a must-have title, unless you’re hardcore about Star Wars, but it is still a worthy use of an at times, mishandled license. Sure, it’s a bit flashy and a silly idea, but that’s where you’ll find the game’s charm. After beating it through and through, I can’t imagine playing it much more. I can still recommend it as a sufficient use of the Star Wars license, and if anything, think of it as the best thing to come out of the prequels, since the films thus far have not stood on their own.

It’s pretty scary to think that a videogame based on the Lego-ization of Star Wars characters turns out being more enjoyable than the last two Star Wars films. And yet, Lego Star Wars, Eido’s Lego-riffic take on George Lucas’ movie empire does just that – it’s simply an enjoyable romp through all three of the latest Star Wars films that both kids and adults can enjoy. While it’s skewed more towards the kiddie demographic, there’s enough good old fashioned fun here to keep adults playing through this relatively short action title.

I don’t usually play “Star Wars” action games. I save myself for a RPG and occasionally for a FPS. But for LEGO Star Wars I have made an exception and this happened not because I had discovered the perfect game, but cause I had to! On one hand I have played once more with the little plastic bricks called LEGO and on the other hand I have had a lot of fun. LEGO Star Wars is an amusing and relaxing game and you rarely get to play such a game in our days when you can play a serious game for weeks without smiling.

This is probably one of the better kids' games to hit the market in a while, and that it's clever and charming enough to appeal to adults is a testament to that fact. The novelty of watching a little Lego version of Obi-Wan Kenobi duel it out with Darth Maul certainly accounts for a large portion of the game's appeal, but on its own merits it's a fairly fun, inventive little game.

I have a sneaking suspicion that embittered Star Trek fans banded together and created this game with the specific intent of humiliating Star Wars fans. When I openly exclaim, "Darth Maul is so adorable! I wish I could hug and squeeze him" with the heart-aching enthusiasm of someone looking at a puppy in a pet store window, I know there are greater forces at work. Emitting a power much like that of the Jedi mind trick, LEGO Star Wars will make you say things that you never thought you would, and will put an ear-to-ear smile on your face as you soak in its satirical storytelling, silly visuals, and entertaining gameplay.

Right about the time I grew tired of the game, it was over. Not that I mind collecting “studs” to trade in to unlock characters or cheats or that going back to uncover secrets in free-play mode isn’t fun, but this is a pretty simple, training-wheels-on platformer. By design, it's not meant to be a game to be savoured and obsessed over. It's for dipping into, and happily revisiting. With so many action games of recent times feeling so demanding and so preoccupied with reward for skill, and skill alone, it's all the better for it. Kids are often underestimated, but that doesn't mean their games should be. Lego Star Wars has an appeal that goes beyond age, even if it's one that rarely goes beyond 20 minutes at a time.

So, the quintessential Star Wars game then? Not quite, but it's not far removed from being one of the most 'complete' Star Wars titles on the market. Simple enough to hook gamers and non-gamers alike - and with enough charm to keep you coming back - it's the short lifespan of story mode that prevents Lego Star Wars from scoring a higher mark.

Lego Star Wars' main "story" mode is brief, but there are literally hundreds of locked items and playable characters to go back and unlock. But although I was initially thrilled with the game, eventually it did start to wear thin. With an easy difficulty level and unlimited continues, there's little tension or excitement. Lego Star Wars is a little short, but the concept is cool enough to warrant a purchase.

The amusing Legoscapes of Star Wars scenes, large number of characters and fairly relaxed gameplay are amusing for a while, but eventually the repetition and sense that you're playing for the privilege of playing more—without a true purpose—wear on the nerves. It might be more fun if it were a two-player game you could play with a child, but it's one player only.
