Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work

Bloomin' hell. The polyester prat is back, that nerd of nerds is here once again. Lounge lizards everywhere rejoice and prepare for another exciting, or even embarrassing, adventure and a gender-bending romp through the sleazy underside of the underworld.

Der langen Rede kurzer Sinn: Wer auf pompöse Grafikadventures mit relativ simplen Rätseln, aber ausgesprochen witzigen Gags steht, der kommt am neuen Larry nicht vorbei! Besonders, wenn er eine Festplatte besitzt...

Alt ist er geworden, der Tolpatsch im gefühlsechten Freizeit-Dress. Man sieht es nicht nur an den kahlen Stellen in der Kopfbehaarung, sondern auch daran. daß ihm die Leute bei Sierra offensichtlich keine harten Rätsel mehr zumuten wollen.. Zu Knobeln gibt es jedenfalls nicht viel, auch ist mir die Story zu mager, zu lieblos und zu durchsichtig. Für jahrelange Begleiter der Herrn Laffner sicher zu wenig, für den Erstkontakt aber gerade richtig, Auch entschädigt die Atmosphäre des Spiels für diese Mankos. Grafik und Sound sind in der Tat genial, so daß wenigstens für Auge und Ohr etwas geboten wird. Die Handlung lebt überwiegend von Situationskomik und Wortwitz, dauerhafte „Schäden“ sind jedenfalls nicht zu befürchten. Schade, daß von den acht Megabytes des Spiels nicht ein paar mehr fürs Hirn reserviert wurden, aber auch so macht es recht viel Spaß.

Much as I enjoyed LSL 5, it's really less of a game than a semi-interactive comic book, There are very long sections that involve no interaction at all; they're mostly expository and while they are funny and entertaining, they should have been accelerated considerably. The one thing I love most about the game is the fact that it doesn't take itself (or Sierra, for that matter) seriously. Its primary purpose is to give the player a few good yuks and it succeeds splendidly at it. The writers aren't afraid to use every cheap, vulgar joke they can work in and I admire them for it. (By the way, since this is very definitely an adult game and if you're worried about your kids getting into it, there's optional password protection.) Dig out your gold chains, run your polyester disco suit through the washer, and join Larry and Patti for some laughs. It's worth the effort.

have to make a confession. I have been a fan of the Leisure Suit Larry series ever since I play Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards in its original 16 colors. I find the original game to be very funny. From the moment I finish playing that game, I know that I want to play more from the series. Among all the titles in the Leisure Suit Larry series, my favorite is Leisure Suit Larry 5: Passionate Patti Does a Little Undercover Work. My reasons are plentiful—a decent plot, lots of humor, nice looking graphics, and great music.

Hut ab! Die schräge Comic-Grafik von Larry 5 ist fast noch besser als bei "Space Quest 5" und "Kings Quest 4". Leider ist die Spieldauer nicht länger geworden als bei den letzten Sierra-Titeln: Nach einem Wochenende ist das Spiel problemlos gelöst, Profis schaffen's schneller. Sierra bringt in diesem Spiel den Helden ausnahmsweise nicht bei jeder falschen Aktion gnadenlos um; frustrierender sind aber die Sackgassen, in die man nach zwei Stunden Spielen gerät, weil man am Anfang ein Objekt nicht mitgenommen hat. Die meisten Puzzles beschränken sich auf "Raum gründlich absuchen und alles mitnehmen". Beim Thema Erotik hält sich Larry 5 gegenüber den anderen Titeln etwas zurück - es werden zwar viele zweideutige Witze gerissen, aber keine jugendgefährdenden Szenen gezeigt.

Det nya pek- & klickgränssnittet är mycket bra och ett verkligt lyft – i Sierras fall var tolkarna tidigare urusla och det var en plåga att försöka hitta rätt ord. Och grafiken är faktiskt ganska kul, med sina "cartoon"-liknande karikatyrer av figurerna i spelet. Men för alla er som inte äger en snabb hårddisk till era 500:or – tänk efter en extra gång innan ni köper Larry 5.

Other perks I liked in this game were the diverse locales (in earlier games, Larry only went to one singular island or city, all of which was pretty much the same), and the way "Passionate Patti" was available for half of the game. In addition, seeing Al Lowe's Benny Hill caliber humor in 256 colors, for the first time, was an amusing sight. However, the idea of this being LSL 5, not 4, was a difficult joke to grasp until the ending, which quite frankly, wasn't that good (even by comedy standards). Some people have even griped that this game was one of the worst LSLs ever, though I think that's pushing it. I think they are just peeved that Passionate Patti's "nude scene" was done in a long shot, so you can't see anything. D'oh! Personally, I'd admit that this was the least favorable of all the Leisure Suit Larry games. However, even the worst of them was more than funny...and at least acceptable.

Larry V är en väldigt tunn historia, som borde kunnat bli mycket bättre. Och det går inte att komma ifrån misstanken att presentationen numera är viktigare än innehållet i Sierras äventyr.

Larry 5 could have been a reasonably good game. The story needs some major reworking, but the puzzles are fairly solid. If the designers had actually forced you to solve them by opening up the game world a bit and allowing you to return to previous areas, rather than nudging you along regardless of your accomplishments, this could have been a respectable sequel. As it stands, Larry 5 is sub-par, feeling more like "My First Little Adventure Game" than an Al Lowe title. It's a must for fans of the series, but serious adventure gamers don't need to waste their time.
