Description

Lethal League is a one-on-one fighting game with a single projectile as the main means of attack for both characters. Contrary to other fighting games, the characters cannot damage each other directly. Instead they have to hit a ball with a baseball bat to speed it up or to change its trajectory, causing it to hit the other player. There is an amount of strategy to it as the ball bounces around the screen and players can dodge or jump over it. The environment consists of a single, non-scrolling screen. The character is controlled through the keyboard with an additional key to hit the ball. It is possible to jump and hit the ball mid-air. The direction of the ball can be changed with the movement keys prior to hitting, either down, up or straight.

With every hit the speed of the ball increases. By hitting the ball during a jump and aiming down a powershot is delivered, instantly doubling the ball's speed, up to 100. As soon as a character is hit, a point is awarded and the positions are restarted. The first player to reach eleven points or to have the most points before the time limit of five minutes runs out, wins the game. The game contains one character with two colour variations. It can be played against another player on the same computer or against an AI-controlled opponent. There are also separate challenges to practice the game mechanics.

Originally released for free, it was later dubbed a prototype when the developers decided to work on a full game adaptation because of the popularity.
