Seemingly torn from the pages of Choice of the Dragon
, this game also inserts players into a medieval fantasy kingdom, this time playing through the 80-odd year career of a master magician, from gifted youngster through to retired sage. In between, players experience wizardry school, episodes of adventuring, missions to rival nations, royal intrigue as the court adviser, a showdown with a dragon, an invasion by brutal primitives from an unmagical dimension, and parenthood, bonding with friends, lovers and even magical familiars along the way. The career trajectory can be that of a helpful and virtuous sorcerer or that of an underhanded and sinister enchanter, all determined by the player's choices and their character's ability to back those choices up with cultivated ability.
An RPG at its heart, the game tracks statistics beneath the hood, keeping tabs on the player's mastery of a number of varied schools of magic, along with the related arts of healing and necromancy, plus more conventional fields of knowledge ranging from warcraft to economics. The adventuring player will also have a party of friends or mercenaries, and the player will also be responsible for outfitting them with steeds and magical gear.
As is standard for these works, game output is all textual in nature, while player input consists of selecting options from lists of choices presented at plot junctures.
